Will your doodads be priced below $800?:rotfl2:

Not sure who Lou is, so I can't really speak to what he said. But I do agree with Pete totally.

Really. Disney blew this big time. And it was totally their marketing. It was hyped up as this big thing. A big secret with a countdown. It made you think that is was something really special. And in the end, it really isn't.

In the end, it is only a cheesy "fan club" with a magazine.

If they had instead just started selling the magazine and the "fan club membership" without telling anyone beforehand, the response would be ho-hum. Oh well, another silly program to waste money on. Some people would sign up and some wouldn't. But no one would have been let down. And there would not be the anger toward Disney over D23.

Watch it, Kevin. With group, you might have a few buyers :)

I'm in, where do I send a check?

For what its worth I'm also a D23 member, yes I a sucker. If they announced dog poop with a disney logo I would have bought it.

Lou and Pete each have great points. I do love Disney history, but love going to the parks more. What I take from from the interviews from all the folks on other podcasts I am afraid Disney says we will let you ride the ride 2 days before others, but we will include have the world also in this special. Nothing I could use at the parks. I did join D23 with reservations. I hope the mag/table book is good. The notice for the Disneyland event is too short for us to do. A few of these kind of things I have done with other types have not been to my liking. I hope they come up for something for the theme park folks as well as DVC and DCL. I saw nothing so far for DCL fans. Time will tell.

I joined too. I got my TShirt 2 days ago and I really like it. Probably not the best $100 I have ever spent in my life, but definitely not the worst.

My DH pointed out to me this morning that the 2 pins they had say they are sold out.

My observation from listening to other podcasts and reading some boards is that most people aren't as cool to D23 as the DIS is. I don't think either opinion is right or wrong, just different.

The DIS is a very park-oriented podcast while many of the others are more general Disney, and D23 is much more about the history and archives than it is about the parks. I also agree with a PP that said that Pete's reaction may be more based on what he wanted (and I also wanted), which was a reward program.

I didn't join D23 because it just isn't for me. I am hoping it will evolve into something more inclusive of the park experience. If it does I will join.

There are a lot of great Disney podcasters out there and all of them have a bit of a different take on Disney. None are right or wrong, they are just different, and I like the variety.

First of all, I think it is a SHAME that NikkiBell thinks after all of this time that people on this particular board would be judgemental for joining D23. We are all friends :grouphug: even if we are buying cool points on the side from Kevin... speaking of cool points...

Do you know what day in September? Are there directions available for an app on my iphone? ;) I'm so excited about the garage sale! What are the hours of the sale?

I have a semi-used Sharpie and a couple of stamps.

I'm calling it a "desk set" and it's a limited edition.

It's $800.
Are you taking bids? Or is there more than one set available? I dont' want to miss out on this one-of-a-kind "desk set".

Opinion

Main Entry: opin·ion
Pronunciation: \ə-ˈpin-yən\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Latin opinion-, opinio, from opinari
Date: 14th century
1 a: a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter b: approval , esteem
2 a: belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge b: a generally held view
3 a: a formal expression of judgment or advice by an expert

There is room for more than one opinion in EVERY situations.

(unless we are talking about my opinions and then there is only room for one)

We don't even know what the "surprise gift" is yet. I do know that it's not a pin, based on yet another podcast that interviewed the Archives team. I expect to see either a lithograph or something like a WDCC sculpture. Still not that exciting for me.

I am totally on the fence about joining, because I do find the archives stuff to be fascinating, but I'm still waiting for more bells and whistles. Dave Smith and his team insisted that ALL the Disney business units would be involved in this. They casually hinted around that more things will roll out later, but not everything is finalized yet. I picked up a "cat that ate the canary" vibe from that.

So I hope Theme Parks and Resorts division has something that will be introduced later on, not just one of that AP/DVC preview event things they do all the time. And the Expo in California sounds great with all the keynote speakers and such, but I am not going to be making a special trip out there just to hear Bob Iger or John Lasseter talk.

I'm still keeping my eyes and ears open until we find out more about this thing.

Oh, and about Lou...

He often snags interviews with people who work for Disney, and he knows which side his bread is buttered. I don't think he wants to risk jeopardizing his contacts by criticizing Disney. That's just my opinion.

I also listened to Pete's rant and Lou's discussion. I found both of them very interesting. I do have to say that I joined a day or so before I listened to Pete's rant and felt like a sucker for joining after I listened. I was a bit more heartened when listening to Lou's discussion and liked the fact that he took part in the presentation and had the opportunity to ask questions.

I am looking forward to what D23 will become and I really feel the potential is unlimited given Disney's ability to think outside the box. Since they are listening to the communities, they should have an excellent idea of what everyone would like to see this membership become.

So Disney, the world is watching and waiting, what's next?

I consider Lou Mongello the Billy Mays of Disney and Pete sorta kinda reminds me of Campbell Brown.

If you don't know Billy Mays is the Oxy Clean commerical guy and Campbell Brown has a show on CNN called No Bias, No Bull.

Lou is all positive Disney all the time, where as Pete will give the good with the just okay and with the bad. Nothing wrong with either format, but they are very different. I really appreciate the honest opinions...I thought it was fascinating how passionately Pete gave his thoughts on D23 and just as passionately talked about how wonderful Disney Cruise line is. You have to admit...sometimes Disney NEEDS to be called out, I can't tell you how many times I prayed that Disney is listening to a particular Podcast and would take it to heart. For the praise AND the rants.

I don't listen to Lou very often, his show can be interesting, but it's a bit too pixie dust coated for me. I did listen to the D23 show though and I thought Lou and his guests pushed it WAY harder than Pete dissed it. Again, nothing wrong with that, it's his style, but after awhile I was really starting to wonder if he was going to get a cut of membership sales or something.

Lou is as bubble gum as they come when it comes to Disney. I quit listening to him after the whole alligators not being in the lake fiasco.
D23 is what you make of it. Some people think its great and some think it's BS. It is an opinion and everyone has the right to one.
