Moms with boys ---- dining ?

We went 2 years ago to Cinderella's for dinner, we had our picture with cinderella before going upstairs for dinner, as we walked upstairs she followed and sprinkled pixie dust on my 3 boys (then 5, 5, and 10). That was the only character interaction we had.

We are going back in 3 days:banana: , and when I asked my boys where they wanted to eat at again, their first reply was the castle. It is just as much about being "in" the castle as it was about cinderella.

The dinner there has only Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother and is much easier to get reservations for dinner than either breakfast or lunch. It may be a good option for you.

I have 3 boys and I could probably get away with a princess meal with my oldest (who wouldn't mind eating with pretty princesses), and my youngest (who isn't embarassed about things like that yet). My DS5 however...would NEVER set foot in a restaurant containing princesses. I even had a hard time getting him to walk through Cinderella's castle the first time because it is called "Cinderella's" castle! He's so afraid someone will call him a princess! He would probably cry through the entire meal. But that is just who he is right now. I think the reaction depends on the boy!

We have three sons, and they've always enjoyed the following:

Sci-Fi
O'Hana
Coral Reef
Liberty Tree

To be honest, they don't mind any other restaurant, provided the food is good and there aren't any Princesses!

We did do a Princess meal once several years ago, for my DW's sake, and we had the boys pose with Cinderella when she came to the table. The older two were initially hiding from her, heading back to the buffet when she came near, but she snuck in at one point. The photo is now a humerous family source of "black mail." :goodvibes

Let me put it this way, our youngest DS (6 1/2) was recently told that one of the Princesses might try to give him a kiss on the cheek, during our upcoming WDW trip. His eyes bugged out and he said "no way, no how!"

We always go to 1900 PF because my DD12 loves Prince Charming there.
DS9 tolerates Park Fare for her, but we wouldn't go there if it weren't for DD12. On Aug. 2, we're having breakfast in the castle & dinner in Norway (it's DD's birthday)....poor DS!

When we picked up our annual passes in Epcot this past May, DS got the one with the picture of Cinderella & Prince Charming (the rest of us got ones with other characters like the Dwarfs, etc.)!! He had a fit & said there was NO WAY he was going to have a year-long pass with Cindy on it!! I told him I'd see if we could get it changed, but then he forgot about it.

We go again next week for 9 days....I see another fit coming when he sees his pass again.

**My DS9 loves Chef Mickey's, LTT, & 'Ohana breakfast.

Hi! We are in the World the first week of Sept. I have @ boys 11 and 8, one princess age 6. We are doing two princess dinners for my daughter. I am looking for things my sons would enjoy. I was thinking Hoop de doo Revue, primetime, or possible Ohana. Any Suggestions? I do not know much about Ohana so any info would be great. Thanks Chris pirate: pirate: princess:

All 3 of them would love Chef Mickey's! :thumbsup2
It's great for kids of all ages.

We actually are doing Cheif Mickeys for breakfast the day we leave. I do think they will enjoy it. We did dinner 4 years ago at CM but this wiil be our first time for breakfast. Do you know anything about Ohana? Thanks Chris pirate: pirate: princess:

In May, we did 'Ohana breakfast with Lilo & Stitch.
Our party of 8 (we had both sets of grandparents there) all loved it!!
My mom had been hesitant about this & ended up saying she's so glad we tried it!!

Just like at Chef Mickey's, your family's photo (in front of some props) is taken before your meal. The meal is served family-style...so there's no buffet. During the meal, there is some kind of "Hawaiian conga-line thing & the kids all parade around shaking maracas. My DS did not get to do this, because he wasn't given any maracas until it was too late. Next time, we'll know! They have POG juice with breakfast, which is some kind of "pineapple, orange, & maybe guava". It was great!! Our server, Carolyn, told us that it's by Minute Maid & that they're going to start selling it in grocery stores, but we have yet to see it around here.

We're going back to try dinner there in about 2 weeks. Can't wait!!

**They do have Mickey waffles there, but those are not on the platter put on your table. We had to wait for another guy to bring those around.

Sounds great! Do they do the same things at dinner? And if it a Character dinner? Thanks Chris :surfweb:

The dinner is not a character meal :sad1: ...or we would have definitely tried it by now.

I know they do fun things at dinner (coconut races, I think?) but only breakfast is a character meal.

Teppanyaki in EPCOT( which is getting a new name when it reopens at the end of the summer, Teppen ?something?) is one of my son's favorites for years. It is where they cook at your table. The kids are always entertained there. He loves the knives clinking, fire on the grill and the chef catching shrimp in his pocket or hat. Try it.

While my DD6 is very into princesses and loves those meals, she would LOVE a pirate, Peter Pan, or Star wars meal!! But we would love to see a TS Toy Story meal, as our 5 month olds name is Andy!

We went to WDW a few years ago and DD was 5 and DS 3. Then, DS tolerated the princess meals and even enjoyed it when Snow White and Belle loved on him so much. However, he is 6 now and does NOT want to eat in the castle when we go in Jan. Unfortunately for him, we are going for DD8. I told him he did not have to get his picture made, he would just have to sit there and eat and behave. We will see how he really reacts when we get there- but I really don't foresee a change in heart from him. It just depends on your child's personality.
I so wish they would do a pirate or toy story meal. I have been hoping for that for years. Really surprised they haven't done a pirate one with the huge success of the movies... oh well... Chef Mickey's it is for us!

I thought at one time there were rumors about a Toy Story meal. I think it would be difficult for the bulky Buzz. That would be a great one. DS3 is big into Toy Story as well. When I recently asked if he wanted to stay at Buzz & Woody's house, he kept saying he wanted to stay at Andy's house. I'm thinking there's no Andy at daycare, so who is he talking about? Finally, it dawned on me who Andy was.

I have the CRT and Princess one in Epcot planned for DD 3, DS 7 and DS9. The older one will enjoy watching the baby interact with the princesses. My middle one is the one I''ll have to keep an eye on, for rude behavior. I did make reservations for Sci Fi and Chef Mickeys too, to balance it out a bit. :goodvibes

Another that would be a bit different in how it would have to work would be a Cars-themed restaurant. Perhaps with stadium-style seating, like you're at a race track with an infield that Mater & McQueen could come into the restaurant and park, while allowing photo ops (hopefully in a more organized manner than the current MGM meet 'n greet). I'm thinking several different "rooms" set up like this, so you aren't sitting way up in the "cheap" seats and have a long walk to the infield. Maybe have a racing light tree (whatever those things are called in drag racing). So you could see when your turn is approaching, as the lights gradually get to the go position. When your table got the green light you could go to the infield for your turn with the characters. Have the CMs dressed in pit crew attire.

Well, I'm getting off topic here with my imagination. Perhaps I'll start a new thread for these wild ideas.

As a mother of 4 sons I am like "Yeah" and "That would be awesome" while I am reading these ideas. Star Wars, Toy Story, Cars, Pirates, Villains, or Pixar characters, any one of these would be a great and very popular addition to DisneyWorld. Come on Disney do something for the boys.
It would definately make my kids more excited to go.

OP- My DS11 just told me his favorite meals were Chef Mickeys(because his fav Goofy did some cartwheels for him), Garden Grill, and Ohana.

MyDS13 just told me that all the buffets were good, beacase it's a BUFFET:lmao:

My boys are 7 and 9 and have been saying NO WAY to any princess meals. DH said only if Jasmine was there. I was actually informed this week that they are too old for the Pooh dinner at CP too. Oldest said no to Chef Mickey's but the youngest said they could do it...for Mom. He just did not want to admit he wanted to do that one. I think I would scar them for life if I took them to a princess meal.

Thanks for all the replies!!! We've decided to just do the one breakfast at Akershus!! Hopefully I'll make it through without getting stabbed with a fork!!!! :lmao:

We changed the other one to Teppanyaki - he loves a restaurant like this here at home!! Does anyone know what the new name will be?? We also have CM's, O'hana, Coral Reef, Sci-fi, Cape May <--- his choice, he loves clams and all seafood in general.

This would be so much easier if they would just do a Pirate meal........... sheesh!!!! :confused3

Yes, Disney needs a Pirate meal - great idea! I'd say the best character meals for boys would be Garden Grill (did it and loved it) and Chef Mickeys (going this fall). We also did Crystal Palace and Donald's Breakfastosaurus, both fantastic. Managed to dodge princesses altogether with these and still had great character interaction. Also, not a character meal but my DS8 loved the activities, food and atmosphere at Ohanas.
