Moms with boys ---- dining ?

Hi all --

We are planning our ADR's for our next trip. Our DS will be 8. We've planned 1900 Park Fare & the Princess Breakfast at Akershus. These are mostly for me.... but, do any of you with boys think these are OK.
Do you see a lot of boys at these? We've done Donalds B-fast and we've got Chef Mickey's planned as usual, but I wanted to try something new this trip!!!

Any opinions would be appreciated - I just don't want him to be overloaded on "princess" meals!!!

I'm so glad you asked that question! I just booked the Storybook princess lunch for DS (7) and myself for September and was wondering the same thing. The CM on the phone said that a lot of boys do go but then she would probably say that anyway not to hurt my feelings. So, anyway, I figure what the heck, he's at Disney (although he probably won't be showing his pics from that day to his friends I also heard that the princesses make a fuss over the boys saying that he's their prince charming, etc.

I know that this has been said before on these boards but I really really wish they would do a pirate meal. It could even be with P.Pan and friends. I have one son that would prob be ok with going to a princess meal, but the other would be like this the whole time whats funny though is that he is the one that the girls always fawn over

The only one that comes to mind that is a character meal is Ohana's Best Friends Breakfast featuring Lilo and Stitch at the Polynesian. I agree w/ the pp and think that a pirate one would be amazing...

My DS is 8, and he loves O'Hana dinner, with so many things to entertain him. I am mixed about the food, but the activities make up for it. I prefer Boma, in this price range, but there is no entertainment EXCEPT FOR THE FOOD! Chef Mickey's is good, California Grill around Wishes time is wonderful. My son actually asked me out on a dinner date so he could see Wishes! Flying Fish Cafe is so blessed to have a server named Bob, who has brought serving to an artform. He is incredible with kids. He invents guessing games to be played while the guests are dining. It keeps kids' minds active, and grownups can actually join in. Bob works every evening except mid week. ESPN is lots of fun. There is an arcade attached. Okay, that's my two cents.

We have an ADR for CRT with our DS6. He's looking forward to it. We also have Donald's Breakfastasaurus and Chef Mickey's, he loves Pluto.

My DS is 11, and he threatened to disown me if I took him to another princess function (after I took him to 1900 Park Fare for Christmas Dinner year before last). I think each child's tolerance for such things is different though. Definitely no princesses for my pirate.

My boys always loved the 1900 park fare, probably more as they got older and the princesses flirted more They are pretty tolerant, and we always did Sci-fi too, so they were happy.

I am lucky to have three girls and three boys. So they all have to share. I will say my boys do not like the 'girly buffets'. They do like CP, LLT and GG. I would think you may get away with one but two may be a bit much for them.

I couldn't agree more - there needs to be a BOY's meal, like a Pirate meal.
I think it is WAY past time for something like that! Can you imagine how well that would go over......... it amazes me no one has come up with it yet!

I can imagine, Capt. Jack, Hook, Peter Pan, Smee, perhaps a few lost boys, or maybe even Barbosa! The CM's could dress as pirates (even the girl CM's) They could play THE song....... Yo Ho Yo Ho, maybe make the restaurant look like a ship or Port Royal or something......... there could be "treasure" everywhere........ I could go on and on........

It would be great and I bet a HUGE success!!!

I hope the powers that be will figure it out -- SOON!!!

I just had to add that I agree!! I think a Pirates meal would be great! (we went when my DS was almost 7 and he did the Albatross Pirates cruise to balance doing CRT for lunch) I also can't understand why there is no Star Wars meal????

I keep thinking, if they would just build these two character restaurants, they'd be up there with CRT & Chef Mickey's as hard-to-get ADRs.


Pirate Restaurant

Breakfast with Peter Pan characters so a little less scary for the little ones.

Dinner with Pirates of the Caribbean characters with pirates & wenches as servers.

Maybe make the outside look like a pirate ship, as would the inside.


Star Wars Restaurant

I personally think this one could be HUGE! Imagine not only the kids that would like to eat with Darth Vader, but all of us Star Wars generation "kids" that would love it as well. Add on your Star Wars "geeks", and I think this would be extremely popular. Make it look like the Cantina from A New Hope or something like the Jedi Temple, or Emperor's Room in the Death Star, or Jabba's place, the list goes on and on with possibilities.

DS8 likes B-fast at Cape May. Cape May and Chef Mickey are his favorite Character restaurants. I have not tried him on a "Princess" restaurant yet...probably won't.

My boys would have stabbed me with a knife if I took them to a Princess meal. When you get there, you'll see a gazillion little girls dressed up in Princess dresses. Not sure about your DS, but it is a place many boys wouldn't want to be, lol.

1900 Park Fare, though Cinderella stops by, is far less Princessy. The mice come by (I used to love those mice, not so much anymore) and so does Prince Charming.

My three boys would ambush me and the cms would find me after park hours tied up to a trash can . I wish they would, but they look at me like this when i suggest it. lucky for me that my sister and i do an annual trip with nothing but princessess. i wish too they had star wars meal,peter pan,pirate...something please . My boys do enjoy sci fi, ohana with lilo and stitch and crystal palace for now (the youngest is six, so we will see how long this is still cool

I'm new here, but not new to Disney! I wanted to throw out there that I actually use the threat of a princess meal when my boys are not behaving themselves

Anything with a princess or pooh bear is just not in their taste. I agree with everyone that said about the pirate or star wars dinner... we would be there!

Aladdin...villians...it doesn't much matter. They've just gone Princess Crazy over there. I love Princesses as much as the next woman who wanted to be one as a kid, but geez. It is almost like they want only girls.

OK are you really asking for opinions or do you already have your mind made up??? My son hated the Norway dinner. Well we all hated the Norway DINNER, but my DD loved the princesses. I wont go back to the Princess dinner because I was sorely dissapointed in the food. Now the breakfast was ok, so I might do that again, but not with my son or hubby who hated spending 100+ on breakfast!


We all LOVED the 1900 park Fare food and both kids loved Cindy and Prince Charming and the mice. The princess thing was wonderful when my daughter was younger, but it did get old. Well, then there was my DH who loved Jasmine..... Why do all the men love Jasmine??

My 8 yr old nephew would be mortified to go to a princess meal. I wouldn't put him through that just ecause I like it. Why not pick something more for everyone like Chef Mickey's or Ohana as has been suggested?
