Moms to be Part 4

Pollito - I have a drop side crib from when DD was a baby that she never slept in. With that being said I think I've decided to replace it regardless of whether or not it has been recalled. My reasoning is.... I have a 6 1/2 year old still sleeping with me because I allowed it - I don't want to do that again. I would worry if the baby was in that crib and it would be an "excuse" to have her end up with me. Also...Walmart has the Graco Lauren currently available for $125 - and although it isn't fancy, I like the way it looks so I don't feel too terrible about spending the money on it. I still have to pull out my crib mattress and check it out....it should be in great shape though :) So, I agree it is definitely a personal decision.....but that's what I decided and why.

I bought the Graco Lauren. It's in! I might drag DH out to get it later if we can drop Lucas off at a friend's house (so we can put the seats down or take the truck, which isn't carseat friendly)

I'll let you know if I get it assembled tomorrow.

I don't know if it's still on their website but they had it $125 w/ a free $10 e-gift card the same price as the crib w/o the gift card:confused3. I did that and used the $10 for changing pad covers. :thumbsup2

With all the concerns with drop side cribs, I'm starting to wonder about ours. I bought it used, but its a good brand name that hasn't been involved in any of the recent recalls. Its a Basset Furniture Crib that was manufactured somewhere between 1997-2001, there is no manufactures date on it. It has the metal rods that the drop panel slides on and a foot release. It has the drop mechanism on both sides. I did get the proper instructions on how to assemble the crib. I paid $135 for it used. Would you go ahead and use it or sell it and get something else?

The dark finish and natural wood finish have the gift card offer....the white one doesn't - of course I want the white one. But that's okay, it's still a really good price. I think I'm going to go ahead and order it now. Who knows how long it will stay at $125 and even though $160 isn't bad I like $125 much better.

I'm probably the wrong person to ask because I am a paranoid, overprotective parent and really I'm okay with that. I personally just think if I had any doubts and used it and something happened I don't think I could ever get over it. But that's just where I'm coming from. Everyone has their own comfort levels and it's wherever yours falls. I mean if you think about it although there have been some tragedies due to drop side cribs if you think about the number of drop side cribs that have been used over the years and then the number of accidents that have occurred the percentage of cribs that had a problem is very small. So.....I probably haven't helped you at all.....but I'm going ahead and getting a new crib for my peace of mind.

Ohhh, I didn't even notice that. Too weird. I wonder why they only did 2 finishes with the gift card??

Our neighbor came to watch DS1 so we went and got it. Now I'm going to attempt assembly... wish me luck! The box is huge, btw.

hi ladies just want to update that i had our little girl on 6/14. aalyah was born at 12:48 pm and weighted 6lbs 15oz. will post more later

Congratulations! :cutie:

Wanna see something gross? ;)

Definitely not gross! You're so close now.....did you say you're getting a C section next week sometime?

Got my results from my 1 hr GTT and I failed. I got a 162 and the cut off was 130. So I get to go back and have a 3 hr done. Yuck.

I feel (or rather felt) your pain! I too miserably failed my 1 hour and the nurse was not sending positive vibes that I would pass the 3 hour, but I did!! And, I had GD with my last pregnancy, so I was soooooooo pleasantly surprised when I passed my 3 hour. Good luck to you! :)

I took some pictures of our nursery last night. We went with a Mickey Mouse / sports theme.

So cute! You and your DH did a great job!! :goodvibes

Is anyone else having Braxton-Hicks contractions all the time? I never had them with DS so didn't even what they felt like until this pregnancy, but I get them every day now! Some of them are even kind of painful, but there is no pattern or consistency to them, so I'm thinking it's no big deal yet.....

I've had more BH contractions this pregnancy than I remember with my last. Thankfully nothing painful, but they can be somewhat uncomfortable. I have them everyday now too.

I was so busy catching up on everyone's posts that I forgot to update on myself! I was put on bedrest last week, and for anyone who has been confined to bed, you know that it is definitely not all it's cracked up to be, especially with a toddler running around. But, went to see the peri today and was told modified bedrest would be ok. :thumbsup2 Thankfully the baby is doing great, and is still measuring about 2 weeks ahead. According to the u/s estimates, the little one weighs 5 1/2 pounds already!! I know that these measurements aren't always accurate, but with my last PG, they were right on with my DS's weight. So, I'm really hoping to make it to 36 weeks, and 37 would be fantastic. Keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

RCS is scheduled for 7/6... I'm supposed to go to my pre-op appt tomorrow... Not sure why it's so early.

Glad to hear the baby is good, and that you have been given a little more freedom. :goodvibes

Thank you everyone for the congratulations :) I swear I posted that yesterday, but the post seems to not have worked :confused3 Maybe its just pregnant brain setting in!

Ick - hope you pass that one!

Glad things are looking better - hope it keeps going well!

Irisbud, the nursery looks great! I love the vintage lamp.

Now that we know what we are having, I'm SO anxious to get the nursery together, and I have to wait for DH to put a floor in the older kids' room, so we can put bunk beds in there and move them in, and decorate it, then I can finally get started. I feel like the clock is starting to tick. The room that is going to be the nursery is painted dark blue with a galaxy painted on the ceiling right now - not exactly what I had pictured for a little girl!

Good luck - and let me know how easy it goes together.

It was surprisingly easy. DH talked me into watching TV with him last night but I couldn't sleep so I got up and did it in the middle of the night :rotfl:
The allen key they send with it is really soft, cheap metal. If you have a good set, use those. I got to the step where you put the mattress spring on and that stupid soft metal just wasn't doing it. I gave up. Showed DH this morning when he got up and he went straight away to get the 'good' allen keys and it went on in a few seconds.
I'd say the whole process (not including the half-night break ;)) took about an hour. Not terribly tricky. Nothing compared to the crib we bought for DS1...

.... random question, for everyone. You know the mattress springs has the bars that pull out and attack to the legs. Is there any reason you couldn't have those bars below the springs? I know traditionally you put the springs below, to where the springs are hanging from the bars, but it just made the mattress SO stinking low. I wasn't sure I'd be able to bend to get him out after the c-section, so DH took it off and redid the bars to where they were holding the springs up above them.
It's almost ridiculously high now but will be fine for a newborn, we'll just have to adjust a lot sooner. Probably after I heal up from the RCS.

I mean, it's got the 'stopper' bars to keep those support bars from moving anywhere so I *think* it's okay but I've never thought to do it that way before. I just know we'll be adjusting it very soon because it's SO high. :confused3

I have a question, forgive my stupidity...but how are the drop-side cribs harmful? looking at ours I don't see how it could fall, and even if it did how it could possibly hurt ds, and neither does dh. the whole crib would have to fall completely apart. I am just curious!

piecy: glad your crib went together easy!

leith: glad you're able to move around a bit more!

going back to the dr today! got to ask about some really painful bh contractions and about me losing weight...i am eating a lot and have lost 4 pouns this week, meaning i've only gained 17 pounds so far...not that i'm complaining but I don't want to harm ds!

have a great day everyone!

Ours goes together like that, with the springs above the supports when it's in the "infant mode". Once you move the mattress all the way down, the supports are even with the springs.

I really don't know how that could happen with our crib, but I suppose anything is possible.

On another note, I thought for a few minutes this morning that my water had "broken". I was going potty, and it just kept dripping. Nothing like the steady stream last time... And certainly not a gush like my mom always claimed to have had with each of us... but a slow steady drip. Guess my bladder is just so crammed up that it takes a while to finish emptying cuz eventually the dripping stopped.

Nette ~ not gross! Just all baby :goodvibes

Boooo I hope the 3 hour ones proves differently for you.

We just found out today that we are expecting...took 2 tests this morning and they confirmed we brought back a souvenir from Disney! :cool1: So can I join in on this club now?

Just a little background...I'm Andrea (will turn 28 next Monday) and my husband is B.J. (32). I have a 4 year old (as of today) little boy named Connor from a previous marriage but my husband is a wonderful father to him! We live in Kentucky and are absolutely thrilled! This was our second month trying, so we are very excited that the process was short. He doesn't want to find out what the baby is, I'm unsure about that...what do you all think?

Well I guess that's about it!

Have a great day!

Welcome Andrea and Congratulations! A souvie from disney is great! I saw you posting on the TTC thread 'cause I lurk there and knew I'd see you pop up here :thumbsup2

As far as finding out the sex vs not, I know for me, I couldn't wait!! We are finding out what our baby is next Friday and just waiting that long is driving me insane! There's no way I could wait a whole 9 months! GL convincing your DH to find out what it is. Hopefully he'll come around if that's what you really want to do.

Thanks so much!

I found out what I was having and it was SO easy to plan everything. I'm going to give him some time...maybe he will think about it and decide I am right...that's what he usually does! If not, I guess it's a good sign that he wants to be involved!

Gvillemama - Welcome! Maybe you could tell your DH that finding out at the u/s is still a surprise, it just comes 20 weeks earlier! ;) At least, that's how I feel about it.

Congrats and welcome :cheer2: Our little guy is a Disney souvenir as well ;) We have a 3 yr old DD and we found out the gender both times. It's really a personal decision, but there was no way I could wait 40 weeks to know...haha.

I'm 32 weeks...can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going!!! It has been hotter than you know what here so I have been a tad miserable...lol. DD was born in May so I have never had the pleasure of being pregnant during the hot and humid summer and it is so different. I feel huge and uncomfortable and I know part of it is the weather....oh well, it's so worth it and I really am trying to enjoy the remaining weeks because this is likely our last child.....

Had anyone heard from Mrs. Charming? She usually posts a lot but I have not seen her in a while.....just hoping she is doing ok :)

I saw her post on another thread not too long ago (earlier this week). She has been kind of MIA around here. I hope that we didn't do anything to chase her off... Her post on the other thread seemed to indicate that she was doing ok.
