Moms to be Part 4

Yeah I've heard that too... but I drink tons of water all day long, so it would surprise me if that is the case... (I'm talking close to 100oz per day probably)

I would just make a quick phone call to my doctor. I understand not wanting to come across as super paranoid or crazy....but my philosophy is that if it makes you feel better then your doctor should want you to call.

Speaking of doctors....I had my 12 week appt this morning. Things look great - this baby is a wiggling fool :) I can't wait to feel all those wiggles and kicks and punches. My doctor is having me come back in another two weeks mostly for my comfort because she is having me stop the progesterone too. (Woohooo!!! - I am super excited about that!) So I just have to say I really love my new doctor.

Nette: I would call the doctor too if you think it will make you feel better. No sense in worrying needlessly. I too would love not to have to go back to work but that won't happen. I am thinking of quitting this job (I am the only employee here who does what I do; I can't take a leave of absence and am not elgible for FMLA because of the size so I will either have to come back within 2 weeks at least part time or quit) but will still have to find something else. I would have quit this already if I weren't pregnant since no one would hire me now, but the economy is still scary so it's up in the air. I am really underemployed right now, though, and we have the savings that I could do it, I just hate to deplete them. I'm in the same boat as you financially: My DH could quit and we would be able to make it, but not me. In fact, once I do get a better job he probably will quit or go to PT, it will make more sense financially than childcare.

WDWorBust: I'm glad you like your new Dr. I think it makes a lot of difference.

Have a great day everyone!

So yesterday from about 2pm - 6pm I had BH about 10 minutes apart consistently. I didn't call the doctor. I'm trying not to panic over every little thing, and I know w/ DD I had BH contractions for long spurts of regularity towards the end. Though, I don't think it ever happened as early as 30.5 weeks.

DH is supposed to travel for work starting on Sunday (yay... mother's day -- but that's a different rant) and I'm really nervous something is going to happen. I'll never forgive him if he isn't here. At least, right now I feel like I would never forgive him.

Someone tell me the BH thing is normal. I'm freaking out this morning.

 Maybe its worth a call, do you have a triage nurse to call? At this point (30w) wouldn't they just try and stop your labor anyway? Or or you one of those miracle women who go from the first contraction to baby in your arms in 3 hours? :goodvibes

My Dr said that if you get dehydrated you will get more BH. So make sure you are drinking lots of water. With my DD I never got many BH till right close to my due date, but with this one I've already had some, but it was due to doing to much and getting dehydrated. It scared me as I wasn't even 20 weeks yet.

Yeah, I've gotten those too. I chug a few glasses of water and all is well again. I don't remember having them this early either, but I guess my uterus thinks it knows what its doing at this point... :lmao:

Yeah I've heard that too... but I drink tons of water all day long, so it would surprise me if that is the case... (I'm talking close to 100oz per day probably)

OMG! I'd float away.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! :cloud9:

Ya know, I wish I knew if I was having a baby shower. Granted it's my 2nd child, but he's a boy (and *everything* we have is pink.) I just want to know if I should be buying the stuff I'm registering for, lol! I feel so silly thinking about this, but it's like, I just want to know! (That and we'll have more money for Disney, lol.. I know, I'm terrible.)

I'm completely with you on that. I had a friend tell me she would do it, but have heard nothing more in months. So I'm guessing no. And in our case, we still have the big stuff (high chair, crib, stroller, swing, etc)... but not any of the little things we need... clothing, dipes, blankets, bottles, oh yeah and carseats!... Should I be buying this stuff already? Argh.

Re: contractions... better today... I might try to call my doctor, but who knows if I'll actually get ahold of anyone but the rude phone nurse. I swear, if they'd just let you email the doctor that would be awesome. Even if the emails went through some sort of triage person first. I always feel less idiotic on "paper".

Re: Baby Showers

This is our first baby and although we knew there would be at least one shower, my husband and I purchased anything we needed (which was A LOT) and anything we really wanted, ourselves. We personally didn't want to depend on anyone else purchasing things for us, plus, waiting would have KILLED me.... The one baby shower we have had so far ended up a lot like my bridal shower and our wedding gifts... 90% of the gifts were gift cards and cash, even though we registered at two stores.

I totally agree on the email thing. I don't see why they don't do that. :confused3 I'm glad your contractions are better, though. :)

DH's ex-coworker made a big fuss a few weeks back saying she'd love to throw me a shower, but not a peep on that since. His boss (female) also asked if we were having a shower, his friend whose wife is pregnant (also due around when I'm due, also with aboy) invited us to their shower and asked if we were having one. ::sigh:: What's a girl to do? I don't want to throw my own. That's just not cool-- makes me feel like no one cares. MIL is broke, and Grandma-in-law (she rocks) don't want to step on my mom's toes.. I think they're a little afraid of her.

We have the crib, exersaucer, high chair, stroller, and convertible car seat... but other things I wouldn't mind having. I bought one of those little play gyms at Walmart yesterday for $25 (woohoo! cheap!) and I bought a bouncer seatwhen we found out what he was. I was going to buy one of those nifty car seat covers on etsy, but they're almost as much as a brand new carseat. I don't know what to do. I don't want to buy it if someone else will-- but I just don't know if they will. I wouldn't mind a "boy" swing either, but the pink one will do, right? Ahhh crap. This stuff shouldn't be so confusing. I really wish I had a sister right now.

Hey everyone! I feel like I am back amongst the living. Sorta. I've had a very rough week.

Last Wednesday I went to bed feeling a little off and woke up with fever and chills. Well that lasted til Sunday! Do you know how crappy it is to be 24w pregnant with a fever that won't go away? Hot, cold; sweaty, chills. Neither the ER docs nor my OB could figure out what was wrong with me. Just some random fever virus that caused no other symptoms. And I'm still not fully recovered. I missed 5 days of work - that's 5 days of my maternity leave which really makes me mad. I hardly had any days at all. Maybe 17 days? Now I have about 12 and I'm going to need 40. Yikes! Anyway, I hope to return to work tomorrow. Cross your fingers.

I actually blame Disney for this sickness. Either I picked the bug up there or just being at WDW and so active wore me out and made me susceptible. So even though I had a great time, it bit me in the end. I have a sour feeling now.

Since I have been in bed for 7 days, I have been watching a lot of A Baby Story and Making Room for Multiples. I am so glad I'm having a singleton. I don't know how moms of multiples do it. One is going to wear me out I think. Maybe it's my exhaustion talking. :rotfl:

I hope everyone is doing ok. Stay healthy!!

Haha with my bridal shower, I got duplicates of things that I really wasn't wild about and a ton of gift cards for Macy's. Blah.

Gift cards and cash would be fine by me, they're a lot more portable than swings and car seats! With DD, we ended up getting almost nothing off our registry, and a ton of clothes that she never wore. Myabe this is more than it's cracked up to be.

I just wish we had a lot more disposable income!

OMG!! I hope you'll continue to feel better. Being sick and pregnant absolutely stinks. Disney always wears me out, I often get sick after Disney trips.

LOL the Baby Story shows... they're terrifying at times! I have to admit, I did secretly want twins, but the more I think about it-- nah, I'll do without ;)

Hi ladies! I haven't posted in awhile, but I'm a lurker so I've been reading. Looks like lots of boys lately. I can't wait to find out. June 7th is the date for my 20 week ultrasound. Still another month...........

RE: a 2nd baby shower....... Is that the norm where some of you live? It is pretty much unheard of around here. The only time I've heard of a second baby shower is if there is a very large age difference between the kids, like 10years. My daughter will have just turned 8 when this baby is born. No second shower for me. I'm sure work might throw a little something, but not one at home with family or friends. I kept everything so I have lots of girl stuff. My cousin has 2 little boys and she is done so she said I can go shopping at her house. So, between the two of us, I'm hoping we will be all set.

Quick question - HAIR! Do any of you color your hair? Is it safe? I'm talking all over color from a box, not highlights. I really need to b/c I have a lot of gray. :sad2: I've been reading that it sounds Ok after the 1st trimester. Any opinions?

I usually get sick before I go! Oh well. :rotfl:

I have friends with twins and the infant years were so tough on them. They stopped having kids after that first set!

Sunlover, I got highlights after the first trimester. I'm pretty sure as long as you aren't inhaling the fumes, you are ok.

About the 2nd shower, my closest friends are throwing us a shower for this baby. We already have all the girl stuff from DD, but we still need so many things including 2 car seats. So it's going to be a small shower, but they are all going to chip in and buy us one or two big things. It's really just an excuse for the group to get together. We do it at night and everyone drinks - except the mommy-to-be! She gets all the loot I guess! :thumbsup2

I did color my hair with DD's pregnancy. This time, I was too freaked out because I had a m/c inbetween and didn't want to take any chances. This time though, I'm reading more that it's safe rather than "Ask your OBGYN."

Honestly I don't know a thing about subsequent baby showers, I don't know anyone with more than 1 kid! I think all I have left over that isn't pink are some plain white onesies, a high chair, and a few other things. Ugh. I wanted another little girl so bad. People *have* been asking, so I don't think it's frowned upon here, people here are so far up their own butts to think about baby shower etiquette, lol. I just wish I had a sister or close girlfriend who I can just ask.. "hey, have you heard anything about a shower?"

DH flip flopped again and isn't wild about #3 (even after he said we could try) and now I don't know what to do with all her stuff.

Ok, I think I'm going to take the plunge and color my hair. I have DH help me b/c I make a mess so I'll do it outside when it is nice out so I'm not inhaling the fumes. Thanks.

Hope you feel better!

Sorry, I didn't want to make it sound like its frowned upon. I just meant that all my friends who have multiple kids only had 1 shower for the 1st, regardless of the sex of the 2nd child, etc. I wish 2nd showers were the norm around here, I could use one. It's amazing how much things change in 7 yrs. I'm just lucky that my cousin's boys are little and she has a ton of baby stuff she is letting me use. If I didn't have her, I would be in trouble if we end up with a boy b/c everything is pink of ours too. Car seats are expired, etc. In fact, I don't even have nice high chair. I used a hand-me down from my sister and her daughter is 17! :scared1: I'd consider yourself lucky if you get another shower!

I would hold onto that stuff for as long as you can. You never know, your DH might change his mind. Once you are for sure, garage sale, craigslist, or ebay!

We went through our attic to find my maternity clothes this weekend and I couldn't believe how much clothes we have from my DD. I can't wait to get rid of it once we are done. ANd, I had hand me downs which I gave back to my SIL. So, this was all clothes that was ours. I must have had about 8 tubs full of clothes.

IKWYM, we had tons of clothes and a few years ago I ended up practically giving them away at a garage sale just so they would be out of the attic. So this time (we're 8 years between kids too) when I went looking there were exactly 3 newborn outfits. All pink. Not exactly going to work for this baby boy. I did hang on to a bunch of 2yo and beyond stuff, and I'm glad I did because now two of my friends have 2yo girls... hand me down time.

I think even w/ 8 years between... it seems like it would be obvious there is stuff you would need... carseats expire and stuff.

And our high chair was my DADs high chair. Granted, it's a really nice solid wood one, but it is OLD.

Vette-- glad to hear you are feeling somewhat better... it wasn't fifth disease was it? I've heard of a few cases of it around here recently... weird fluish symptoms w/ fever followed by a rash. You might have them check for it.. it's not good for baby. :(

If you color your hair be careful. Some of the pregnancy hormones can cause very different reactions to the dyes. So you might not end up with the color you wanted. I've not experienced this , but I've heard that it has happened to others.

As for a baby shower I'm having one. My best friend has been planning every since I started trying and even through my last pregnancy which ended in miscarriage. But I am planning on buying the big items. So far I have a crib, swing, bouncer, play mat, burp cloths, sheets, and nursing cover. I figure I'll get a lot of clothes at the shower for our baby boy. I'm really excited as I never had a shower with my DD, and definitely got rid of all the baby stuff years ago.

No, thank goodness. The fever was my only symptom - no rash or anything weird like that. I can only hope it didn't hurt the baby in any way. She's been kicking her heart out this whole time so she doesn't seem worse for the wear!

Hi everyone. I haven't looked at this in the last week. I haven't really wanted to think about abay stuff - had an u/s and the Dr. "thinks" its probably a boy. THAT MAKES 3! It was difficult news - I really want a girl, but it is what it is. It is still too early to really know, which the Dr. made a point of telling me, but I could see a little "thing" for myself. Oh well, maybe I'll have a fun surprise with the next u/s!

Ugh, I wish I had real news!! I didn't feel like looking for this thread last night, so I was waiting until somebody else posted. I'm a lazy bum.

I was at 1.5cm yesterday, which was progress, but not enough for me to go over to the hospital or anything. He's still head down, which is good. They did change my due date to today, with no questions, which was good. They called today and scheduled inducing for Tuesday. They didn't have anything available on Monday. They also didn't have any weekly appointments available on Monday, so I'm going in on Friday for a non-stress test (they didn't tell me that yesterday, so my time had to change this morning) and just my regular weekly appointment. The Dr. didn't think I would make it to next week, so now it's just waiting, which is frustrating! As if this whole getting pregnant thing wasn't enough waiting, now it's waiting for him to get here. I'm over waiting. I'm not allowed to leave the house alone (DH, his parents, my dad, my grandmother, etc. all driving me crazy) even to walk the block, so I can't even go for a decent walk to try to get things started. I may do laps around the coffee table. Argh.

Maybe not so bad - I went for a looong walk with my first, then went into labor that night. I was tired from the walk, and felt like I stayed tired for about the next 4 years!

I have a question for all of you... I actually started a thread asking about it, but it ended up turning into a mom vs. mom battle which was not my intent.....
Have any of you decided not to return to work after having your baby? And if so, how are you handling telling work? I always thought that I would return to work, but now we're thinking differently. Right now my thoughts are to return to work on my scheduled day (my mom or mother-in-law will stay with baby) and give my two weeks’ notice....
What do you all think of that? How are you planning on handling it?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I hate those battles - they never solve anything. IF your relationship with your employer is good enough, I would try to give more notice rather than less, but I know that isn't always feasible. If you tell them now, do you think you'll lose some of your paid leave?

How rotten!! Right after we came back from Disney last year, my whole family got the swine flu. I'm sure we picked it up down there. Not fun.

I just went to a shower for a 3rd baby last week, and will be having one for this one as well. Most of my friends are done having kids, so look at it as an excuse to buy cute baby stuff (and get together and talk and drink :lmao:)

I asked my stylist (who has a 2 month old) about the coloring, and she said as long as you aren't doing it every month, it is fine. Not a Dr., but I figure she deals with it a lot. I'm going to get mine done before we go to Hawaii in July.

Hi Sunlover - I did cave and dye my hair around week 15 - I couldn't stand the gray...so I chose to believe the folks who say it is safe :thumbsup2

You must have the countdown going for June 7th - our u/s is scheduled for Tuesday May 18th....I am so excited to learn - I hope we continue the board's boy trend....

Hi everyone! I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm expecting my second DS, and am due August 11th. :goodvibes

So far, all looks good with the little guy....well, big guy I guess. He's already measuring just over a week ahead. I just hope it's not indicative of having gestational diabetes, as I had this my last pregnancy. Is anyone familiar with GD? If you have it once, are you likely to have it with subsequent pregnancies? I take the one hour glucose test next week, so I guess I'll find out then.
