Moms to be Part 4

I wouldn't mind doing the test honestly if I only had to not eat that morning. At my doctors office though...you have to fast for 12 hours. So I go in at 7:30 am after not eating for 12 hours and have blood drawn, sit there till 8:30 have more blood drawn, sit there again till 9:30 have still more blood drawn, at 10:30 even more blood drawn and then I have to have an appointment at 10:45 with my OB for the results and a checkup. That's like 16+ hours I won't be able to eat. I would love to do this test if I could just eat! Even if I could munch on crackers or something. I'll bring water of course and that will help a little but the last time I had to go 4 hours without eating (last week) I almost passed out...I would really prefer to not do that.

Thank you for letting me know all of the risks though. Nobody told me any of that! I mean I know I should ask questions but nothing ever comes to my mind when he asks "Do you have any questions?" This has been a fairly easy pregnancy so I rack my brain for questions but I find none...So thank you so much! :worship:

What time do you go to bed usually? You'll just not have to eat from 7:30 in the evening til bed and then get out the door to the doctor. You can't munch on anything and they usually don't even let you leave the office. Exercising brings your blood sugar levels down...which is fine if you do have GD but not during testing.

I was only at the lab for 2 hours.
Fasting blood, drink sugar stuff, blood 1 hr later and then 2 hrs later. It was 3 blood tests but 2 hours. All my levels were off.

Don't fret too much over it. Lots of people fail the one hour test and pass the longer test. Doesn't mean you can go out and eat crazy because that is not good for your baby or for you.

I was devastated when I first found out I had GD but after a week or so I settled into a new "lifestyle" of eating habits and things have been good.
Baby has been growing at the 50th percentile and my numbers have been good. It's not something to fool around with considering the dangers. That is what keeps me on track. This isn't about me not being able to eat a cookie it's my daughter's life. :)

Usually? Lol I'm a late to bed late to rise kind of person,I have a really hard time sleeping through the night at the moment. (which I guess is good practice!) I suppose I can attempt to get to bed earlier though! I don't normally eat really terribly anyway, no soda...chocolate when I crave it but thats not often. I mostly crave salty foods. I don't even go out to eat! I'm sure it won't be that bad, I just dislike not being able to eat. My weight is still down and I've been trying to increase my calories so to go from a calorie increase to nothing for 16 hours is going to be a little hard. Thank you again for the advice! :)

I found out the results of my TSH (Thyroid) test. Normal. Again. Lower than last time even. I actually laughed when I heard it. :rotfl2: Something about being pregnant is making my levels go down. I just hope they don't shoot back up after I deliver. I don't want to have to take a pill for the rest of my life. I have a hard enough time remember birth control (obviously!)

Thanks for the congratulations everyone!!! We are loving her more and more each day. She is an absolute joy and I can't even imagine her not being here!

The first night home was kind of rough. We didn't know what to expect. Last night was a little better but I was still up with her from 2:15am til 4:45am. She wanted to eat and eat and eat! I didn't want to give her too much though as I didn't want her spitting up after I put her down. So much to learn and figure out as we go. A little overwhelming.

I know that everyone (family/friends) is super excited that we have a new baby, but it's hard when everyone keeps inviting themselves over. My sister in law said that they would be dropping dinner off on Thursday night for us. To me that meant, here's dinner that you don't have to cook, we will drop it off for you to enjoy. Apparently not. She will be coming by with my brother in law and their 1 1/2 year old to have dinner with us. I guess I misunderstood, but let me clean the house now and set the table for you so we can all eat together. sigh

I don't want to leave this thread! It was always there for me when I was having issues and concerns. I will miss it!!! Good luck to all the other moms to be and best wishes for happy healthy babies!!!! :cloud9:

When did you all register for the coupons from the formula/diaper companies? When did you do your baby registry? I can't remember this stuff for the life of me.

My last pregnancy I was on bedrest from 20 weeks on so I had NOTHING up until the very last minute (she was born a month early, which of course, no one thought that would happen <eye roll> HELLOO I was in the hospital three times totalling like 3 weeks!! For some reason my mom thought because I was late, DD would be late..:confused3) I didn't have my baby shower until a few days before DD was born, on a short break inbetween hospital stays. My mom was insistent that I didn't buy anything beforehand so I don't "jinx" the baby. Thanks, mom. DD was in the NICU for awhile so that gave us a little time to set things up since we couldn't be there all 24/7 and I couldn't drive because of the c/s. I guess this is why I want to get it done ASAP :) I was so so so unprepared last time.

Hulagirl,

Congratulations again :)

As for company coming over. I think you need to be assertive and ask people to limit their visiting or come over with food and paper plates.

The same thing happened to me with DD#1 and I said never again.

If you want to visit that is fine but don't expect me to serve you or to have anything prepared for you or to clean up after you.

You need your rest and you need to physically recover. Nevermind the sleep deprivation.

Congratulations on your little girl! She looks like a little doll! I noticed her outfit and was wondering if you would mind telling me who makes it? I think it's REALLY cute!

How do you word something like this? We live in Fl and the whole family lives in NJ and they are all planning to come over and "help" but I'm sure it's not going to be help at all, more like expecting me to play hostess and then gossiping about how bad of a hostess I am...

Both my husband's parents and mine are coming to visit for a couple of weeks after our baby is born.... I have made it very clear to all of them that they are coming to visit us, not to be waited on by us. This is not going to be a normal visit. The house will not be perfect and I won't be cooking glamorous meals. I'm terribly sorry if they or anyone else thinks that's rude, I call it honesty. I also offered them the option to stay at one of the many hotels in the city. I'm just thinking of their comfort! :)

Pollito916, Mrs. Charming, EmaLee and Piecey - thank you for the warm welcome.

Kpm -sending positive vibes out to you!

hulagirl87- Congrats and as everyone has said - such a cutie, thanks for posting pictures

Mrs. Charming - I have already begun signing up at diaper websites, etc. I will be interested to see what people tell you about when they completed their baby gift registery - I have no previous experience but I think I would feel comfortable registering as early as month 4 or 5.

Also, Piecey if you could please list me as due Oct. 13, next time there is a reason to edit the list, I would appreciate it. I wasn't specific in my first post

I am looking forward to reading all the previous pages and posting my questions as they pop up. Thanks everyone

Congrats Hulagirl!! As for your unwanted visitors, DH needs to step up and call them. Tell them that it's not a good time for a visit (I just can't believe they would come over for dinner and stay!). Don't feel badly. When I was in the hospital I finally had DH kick people out. We had visitors from sun-up to sun-down and by 4pm I was so over it. I don't care if you drove 3 hours! I just had major surgery and I'm tired! :rotfl:

Oh and I was always worried about the feeding thing. I BF DD when she was first born and I never could tell if or how much she was eating. She would fall right asleep as soon as she latched on. You will figure it out. All mommies do!

I find out in 3 weeks what we are having. I am thinking it's another girl because people keep saying it and I feel exactly the same as when I had DD. I know that means absolutely nothing. But if the pregnancy is the same, and this one is a girl, maybe she will turn out as sweet as DD. Too much to hope for? :rotfl:

Anyone else have a feeling one way or another?

Welcome dizluvah!

I plan to sign up for the formula websites again here soon. I'm really hoping they still send me stuff since I just got a bunch of stuff with DS! I'm also hoping my friends will let me sign them up, too! :rotfl:

I also wish I would have fudged my due date because they don't start sending stuff until a few months after DS was born. Those checks REALLY helped! I'm going to fudge my due date and put my brother's birthday (7/22) so I'll remember it and can put the same date on all of them. That is about 5 weeks early.

I still gets ton of coupons from Huggies. I take advantage of all sales I read about, especially the ones at the drug stores (CVS, Rite Aid)... I have about 60+ packages of diapers upstairs in Lucas' closet and tons and tons of wipes... probably 13 of the big Huggies cases and 20 of the packaged refills. I just went through and took an inventory of everything and had over 300 size 1 diapers so I think I'm good on those! :rotfl:

I still sign up for all the samples I see!
Here is one for Underjams- http://instoresnow.walmart.com/enhancedrendercontent_ektid83502.aspx
And one for Pampers new diaper... https://www.pgeverydaysolutions.com/pgeds/pampers/brandsampler-login.jsp

DH just said yesterday that he would recommend to first time parents not to have visitors the first week. It is just too much. I agree with this. Yet he hasn't called his brother to tell him not to come over tonight...

Congratulations on your little girl! She looks like a little doll! I noticed her outfit and was wondering if you would mind telling me who makes it? I think it's REALLY cute!

Thanks! We got a lot of compliments on it. I got it at Old Navy. I had brought 2 outfits with me to the hospital not knowing how big she was going to be and they both ended up being huge on her. Oh well, still cute!

The company tonight is DH's brother, wife and daughter. He won't call him to tell him not to come. He doesn't understand why it bothers me that when the said dropping off dinner, it was never implied that they would be staying and asking us to basically entertain them. Since SIL is basically a new mom herself, I'm just surprised that she doesn't remember how it was for her and would she want to be entertaining company? :confused3 I just set the dining room table, cleaned a lot of the house, made a dessert... Man, I haven't worked this hard since early in my pregnancy! I have to go take a nap before they come over at 5..... Fingers crossed that they don't stay too long.

justthat - Dr Dangerfield sounds like a joker :)

kpm - welcome back! I remember you from the last time I was on this thread (and Christina too! :goodvibes). My son Alex just turned 3 last month! Sorry to hear you have a bad cold, I had one last month, but luckily it only lasted 2 weeks.

hulagirl - welcome baby Carys Noelle! She's so sweet! :lovestruc I can't believe your SIL would invite herself over for dinner when she recently had a baby too, that's just rude in my mind! You are nicer than I would have been cleaning and making dessert for them!

Kiki - lol at not getting checked at your 38 week visit. Good for you for taking the GD so seriously and keeping it under control...I have known too many people that didn't. :sad2:

EmALee - I also failed the 1 hour glucose with DS, then had to do the same thing with the 3 hour test. I really thought I was going to pass out when I left the office! Luckily I had a granola bar in the car! The next day they called and told me I failed that test as well, and I went through the GD diet course, blood testing, the whole deal. Then at my next appt, I showed the dr. my #s, and he said they didn't look like someone with GD, they were all pretty low. Then he looked at my 3 hour test and said that I passed all but one section of it, and that was only by one point. He said the nurses may have over-reacted a bit. Still, I'm glad that I went through it because the diet course did teach me some better eating habits.

DMickey - Aww, I know how you feel. My DH just left for Mexico (his grandfather is dying), and I am missing him like crazy too!

arubio - that nurse was out of line, and I would have been crying about leaving my newborn in NICU too! How is Logan doing now?

Mrs. Charming - I don't remember when or how I registerd, I just remember getting all that stuff in the mail a little before DS was born. I got a bag of baby magazines and stuff from the OB at my first appt, and I think filling some of that stuff out gets it started, and going to baby websites.

Lindsay - I would take the same approach as Lauren, direct them to a nice nearby hotel, and make it clear that you will NOT be playing hostess after having a baby. I would probably kick people out at naptime too, so I could get a nap myself.

Lauren - We think alike, no sense being subtle and wasting words ;)

vettechick - You will find out the sex right before your WDW trip - good time so you can start purchasing! :thumbsup2 Does Scooner have any names picked out yet for baby #2? Alex wants to name the baby "Tamalera" since DH calls him "Tamalero".

Piecey - sounds like you are well stocked on diapers and wipes! :rotfl:

********************

I ordered one of those at home gender tests online - Best Baby Gender Test - it's only $10 if you fill out a survey with your results. Well, it came within 2 days, so I took it yesterday morning, and it said princess:. I hope it's right! I've been calling the baby "la nina" so I'm going to feel bad if it ends up being a boy.

SO I broke down and signed up for the formula websites today. Cool. One thing down. I have only gone to the midwives so I don't get the handy dandy bag. I might switch to an ****** OB soon, so I might end up getting one after all, LOL.

That leads me to the 2nd thing... I think I'm gonna switch from my midwives. I don't have to be friends with my OB, he's just got to check me out and cut me open atound 39 weeks... then I never have to see him again. I'm not thrilled with the decison, but I think I'll survive. I'll get some more "hands-on" care with an OB anyway. I wish I could just stay with my RE!! I loved them.

OMG I could NOT handle company in the first few weeks. Heck no. Not even my mom. Having another person in the house is just too much maintenance. Is it sad that I'd just rather do it myself? Mayyyybe this is why people have those "meet the baby" parties... hmmmmmm. There may be something to that!

:rotfl: Actually just this week Scooner decided she likes the names Lucky & Arthur for the new baby. However, those names are already being used by our black lab and her stuffed puppy. Darnit. :lmao:

I'm very excited that I can go to WDW and buy sex-specific things!

My c-section is scheduled for Monday 3/22 and my mom is coming on Sunday night. She will be here as long as I need her but I am thinking about 8 days .. through the following weekend. Her primary job is taking care of DS#1 while I am in the hospital and the first few days home. Then she'll go home and we will be alone for the second week with my MIL coming by sometime for the day or two and again, focusing on DS and the house. Then my Mom comes back the day after Easter because my DH is leaving two weeks after DS#2 is born for work and I don't want to be alone with both boys soo soon.

Luckily, this time around, my mom is 2 hours away and my MIL is one hour away. Last time we lived in Florida and it was more difficult. My MIL came sometime around week 2 and that was tough because it was more of a "either I cooked dinner or ordered out" she didn't really take it upon herself to do that like my mom does. I ended up kicking my MIL out of the guest room/DS's nursery about four days in because I couldn't sleep with the baby in our room because of DH's snoring and the couch just wasn't cutting it for me ... once I did that, it was MUCH better!! ;-)

I can't wait .... I am excited. We just got some AWESOME news too which lifts the financial concerns A LOT sooner than we expected so I am just trying to relax and enjoy this time. I need to pack DS's bag and my bag but otherwise we are close to ready.

My DH is sick right now and we are waiting some blood results but things are ok. Some might remember the case of Myocarditis he had back in May 2009 which had him in the Cardiac Care Unit in Florida for a few days ... it started as a viral infection and traveled to his heart. He started having the same viral infection symptoms earlier this week and freaked out. We went to the dr. today and things are looking fine so we are just waiting to get through the weekend and kick the infection so we can be confident it doesn't go to his heart again. Nerve racking ....

Sara - I will keep my fingers crossed that this time you get your little princess!!

Vette - My PG this time was different than my PG with DS. I had A LOT more nausea and early symptoms than I did before. Yet I am having baby boy #2!!

Went for our 38 week fetal assessment appt. this week and baby is growing at the 50th percentile which is perfect. She is approx. 7 lbs now.

Had my last GD appt. yesterday. I see the diabetes doctor again in June for testing. I have to lose 15lbs before then. That's from where I am now not pre-pregnant weight.

Waiting for the midwife to drop off some oil of verbena so I can make an "induction-aid" drink tomorrow morning. Plan B might be to break my water.:scared1: I've never had that done. Does it hurt? What happens after? That caught be by surprise. It was just something she was discussing with the other midwives on how to get me going.

DH and I are going to a movie tonight. I feel like I have cabin fever.

Hey everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted in ages. With my history of miscarriages I am just still living in fear of losing this baby all the time. I don't think I'll relax until I can start feeling movement.

Things are going relatively well here. I just started my 2nd trimester today and my morning sickness is almost all gone. I also did the 12 week screening for genetic disorders and everything came back normal. I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes a few weeks ago but I am adjusting. :goodvibes

My big U/S is scheduled for April 12th and I can't wait!!

I'll try to be better about posting more often. :flower3:

I didn't feel anything when my OB broke my water with DS. Just a gush of water. :rotfl:
It got all over the nurses shoes..haha

My OB broke my water with my daughter and I didn't feel it, but I did feel the kick those contractions got afterwards! :scared1: With my son it broke at home and again, didn't feel it, but when I did start contracting a few hours later they were crazy intense and he was born *fast*. As you know, c-section with this one so no breaking of my water as her bad position was the reason for the c-section so breaking my water would likely have killed her.

Where would your midwife break your water? I'm assuming that would be done in the hospital in case of a prolapsed cord, right? If you have to go the hospital route anyway then, could you just wait it out and see if you go into labor on your own rather than having your water broken? Cause if you don't start laboring on your own, you'd have to be induced within 24 hours anyway, at least that was the policy here.

My girl pregnancies were similar to each other and much different than the one with my son, but of course I can't say that means anything regarding their genders. It did give me hope that this one would be a girl though.
