I just got a call from my midwife. I have gestational diabetes. I have been referred to a doctor so I called the office. I was told they would look for my paperwork and if I didn't hear from them in a week to call back. I explained I am 30 weeks pregnant and don't have all the time in the world to get this figured out with eating/exercising etc.
Why can't people understand.
Kiki, I have GD too. It sucks big time! However, the only way it is easier is to think you are doing for the baby and not for yourself. That has kept me away from many a chocolate bar!
It will be easier now that the holidays are over. Here are some snacks and foods that I am frequently eating:
Breakfast- having lots of eggs and creative omelets. I am especially fond of sticking spinach leaves in the eggs for extra protein. Also have been eating Kashi go Lean cereal with low carb yogurt. Finding the low carb yogurt is tricky!
Snacks- animal crackers, peanut butter pretzels, apples and oranges. Lots of cheese too! (no carbs) and canned whipped cream is a nice low carb addition to make things seem a little bit yummier!
Also, I love the Aunt Millie Lite wheat bread. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but there are 18 carbs for 2 slices, which is a big deal when you are limiting your carbs!
The most important thing I've found is to prepack little snack bags of things and have them with me always. You don't want to get too hungry ever because your blood sugar can go out of whack and then when you do eat, you are starving!
And also, something I am struggling with right now, walk or exersize. It makes all the difference in the world!
Good luck to you... Its tough but you can do it! Oh, for some yummy recipes, try dlife.com
