Yippee!! I just got a call from DH! He is back on US soil!!! He should be home tomorrow morning!! My kids will be happy that I won't be whining to them anymore!

He has been gone for almost 27 and a half weeks (since the last Sunday in June).

Okay, Baby Elliott, daddy is on his way, feel free to make your debut at any time!!

yay BabyTigger!!! How wonderful he will be here for the birth. :)

Question about Zofran...my doc gave it to me for MS, but is it appropriate to be used when I'm queasy, not necessarily nauseated? I don't want to kill a mosquito with a gun, but all I have is the gun. :)

Allison-I had zofran from my anesthesia for the IVF egg retrieval, so not prescribed for morning sickness, although one of the nurses told me to use it for that if needed. I didn't get sick, but I had one night when I just felt awful, so I took one. I think if you think it will help, go for it. As long as you're not eating them like candy, I think you're good.

I just got a call from my midwife. I have gestational diabetes. I have been referred to a doctor so I called the office. I was told they would look for my paperwork and if I didn't hear from them in a week to call back. I explained I am 30 weeks pregnant and don't have all the time in the world to get this figured out with eating/exercising etc.
Why can't people understand.

Kiki, I have GD too. It sucks big time! However, the only way it is easier is to think you are doing for the baby and not for yourself. That has kept me away from many a chocolate bar!

It will be easier now that the holidays are over. Here are some snacks and foods that I am frequently eating:

Breakfast- having lots of eggs and creative omelets. I am especially fond of sticking spinach leaves in the eggs for extra protein. Also have been eating Kashi go Lean cereal with low carb yogurt. Finding the low carb yogurt is tricky!

Snacks- animal crackers, peanut butter pretzels, apples and oranges. Lots of cheese too! (no carbs) and canned whipped cream is a nice low carb addition to make things seem a little bit yummier!

Also, I love the Aunt Millie Lite wheat bread. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but there are 18 carbs for 2 slices, which is a big deal when you are limiting your carbs!

The most important thing I've found is to prepack little snack bags of things and have them with me always. You don't want to get too hungry ever because your blood sugar can go out of whack and then when you do eat, you are starving!

And also, something I am struggling with right now, walk or exersize. It makes all the difference in the world!

Good luck to you... Its tough but you can do it! Oh, for some yummy recipes, try dlife.com

Add me to the list that can't wait for this pregnancy to be over. This is by far my worst pregnancy. So many aches and pains. I am so glad this is the last one. I spent 12 hours yesterday in labor and delivery, only to be told I am only 1-2 cm and dehyrdated. I was up all night Sunday with pain and finally went to the hospital at 8:30 Monday morning, I was so disappointed to see all these women having their babies and I was leaving without one. Not to metion how embrassed I was to have so much pain and only be dehyradation. I am starting to think this baby is never going to make an apperance.

Ciciwoowoo,

THANKS for the info and the emotional support. I was pretty upset yesterday because I just didn't know what to do. I popped into my GPs office to get her to sign a note for work to reduce me from 12 hour shifts to 8. My work wouldn't accept the note from the midwife *rolls eyes*. While I was there I asked her about the GD and she tested my blood and wrote a prescription for a monitor, strips, etc. Took my BP which was high, no doubt due to anxiety because it was back to normal later. She's checking my urine for proteins too because of the BP issue. She was awesome and so was the pharmacist when I went to get the stuff.
I still haven't heard from the specialist. It would be nice to get an appt since I have been told to go to the hospital for insulin if my blood sugar goes over 10. But I guess being 30 weeks pregnant isn't as important to them as it is to me. The whole risk of stillbirth has me wigged out.

Thanks so much for the food suggestions. That is my project today to get my head around this, plan, make a grocery list and get stuff so that it is readily available. I have no problem doing it because it is for a short time and it is for my daughter. I just need the information.

Do you test 1 hour or 2 hours after eating? That issue I am confused about at the moment.

Apress - You know, I feel the same way. My first 2 pregnancies, I had the usual morning sickness, fatigue, all that good stuff. But then I hit a point where I felt great and it was enjoyable to be pregnant and feel the baby move around. This time around the sickness never totally went away, but as it died down constant pain set in. There are days where my pelvic muscles hurt so much that even walking short distances is painful. I had 1 preterm baby so I know I don't want another and that I want her to stay in another 2 weeks or so, but the misery is such that I just wish I were at term and at her out. This pregnancy made the decision for me that it's the last cause I truly never felt great, constantly worried that my contractions were effective (which luckily, so far they have not been), and am just ready to be done.

BabyTigger - Congrats on your husband's arrival!! It must be so great to know he's finally back for good after all this time!

KikiMouse - Regarding the GD, can your midwife give you a nutritional handout regarding diet? My friend had it last year with her 2nd pregnancy and her dr sent her to a nutritionist who basically just gave her a big packet with lists of approved foods and foods to avoid. Did your midwife order the glucose test? If so, then I think she should be capable of managing the diagnosis as well.

But in the meantime, don't stress over having to wait a week or so to see the dr as you really won't harm the baby. Just stay away from the carbs and you should be okay. And Ciciwoowoo has some great food suggestions too!

Vettechick - I think if you feel sick then take the Zofran. It's safe so it's not like you'd be risking your health or the baby's and why be miserable when you don't have to be? My dr wouldn't give me anything until I lost 10% of my body weight, but if I could have taken something I would have!

Just that,

Midwife said to stay away from white sugar, white flour and all the obvious blood sugar raising foods. Limit the carbs and eat them with protein. Follow the Canada Food Guide and I should be fine. Pharmacist said pretty much the same thing.
The specialist is supposed to hook me up with a nutritionist but in the meantime I will read stuff on the internet, use common sense, and see what others do. Pretty sad that I have had to get all the advice and help from the non specialists.

Hey guys!

Newly pregnant first timer here!

Due July 7th 2010

Very excited to be taking 2 trips to WDW this year...1 will be April 10th at FW Campgrounds (we are driving) and the other will be Sept 2010 at VWL with a new baby!

It is, and very frustrating. I know my friend had to wait about a week to meet with the nutritionist, but when all she got was a handout it seemed ridiculous to me that her own OB couldn't have just handed that out (or your midwife in your case). I mean, GD is pretty common, so why make women run all over and stress over it when you can just give them the food guidelines and script for the testing supplies right away?

I have an unnatural fear of stillbirth too, due to a close friend losing her baby at term just a month before my son was born. They had no idea anything was wrong and it was devastating for everyone involved. I know that's why I panic anytime this baby is quiet for too long, but then I remind myself that each baby is different, this one doesn't need to move constantly like my son did, etc. It's really hard to convince yourself of that sometimes though.

Hi and welcome CaveCricket! That's pretty exciting to have your baby's first trip planned already! And at a great age too! My first 2 kids were both just under 3 months old on their first trips and they were great.

And again, anyone who wants this list, it is still up for grabs!

jenandnelson-We called ours a blob for the longest time, and since we don't have a name, we call him Blobby! DH's mom gets upset with us for that, but I think it's a cute nickname for now!

I usually go by whatever piece of produce BabyCenter is equating its size to! I am 9 wks today, so we are at "grape" stage!

Jenn - Those are adorable shirts!

And I like your photo of your little 'blob' too! Those early photos are so neat!

Thanks! But I have to admit they were stolen (the tshirt designs not the blob) from somewhere on the DIS! :cool2:

I do enjoy my blob picture, I have one in a frame in my living room... the frame says: all because two people fell in love... how true!

We're calling ours Spike for now. No one gets to know her name until she's born.

Our boys names is a family name so that one I will share... Thomas Edward. Thomas was my little brother that died from Leukemia in 1992 when he was 1.5 yrs and Eduardo is my father in law that passed away a couple years ago. We decided to Americanize Eduardo (Portuguese) and make it Edward.

Our girls names is top secret... Her middle name will be Lorraine, b/c that is my grandma's name (G. Lorraine practically raised me since my parents were 18 when I was born). Gramma is no longer with us and my cousin and I decided that if we had little girls we would use Lorraine as their middle names. My cousin had a baby girl on 12/15/09 and her name is Kherington Lorraine.

We have loved the name Olivia for a long time(since before it became popular) but when it exploded in popularity, we decided to ditch it! :sad2:

Hey everyone just wanted to let you all know that Jake Ryan was born on Dec 19,2009 at 3:44pm.He weighed 6 pds 12 oz and was 19 1/2 inches.

:dance3: YAY! :dance3:

Here's a dumb question.... and this is for all the moms to be... what did you wear or what are you planning to wear to your shower? Also, is your shower planned or do you think it will be a surprise. I started a thread asking if mom's to be are supposed to be in on the planning and a lot of people are shocked that I know when my shower is :confused3 I wouldn't like to walk in not knowing it was my shower. What if I hadn't done my hair that day?

Just my opinion: A baby shower should NOT be a surprise... Want to surprise someone - throw a bridal shower... but a pregnant woman (and I thought this long before I became pregnant) Heck NO!

Yippee!! I just got a call from DH! He is back on US soil!!! He should be home tomorrow morning!! My kids will be happy that I won't be whining to them anymore!

Thanks!

Thanks Jenn! I periodically forget to save the list when I post it and then when I edit it next I am going from an old version, but I am so sorry about that!

I loved the name Olivia when we had my first in 2004, but my husband did not like it at all at the time. This time around he said he liked it, but my son is all into Olivia the pig and I could not get past that association so I vetoed it. We're still not set on anything but the middle name, which will be Elizabeth. Or so I think right now anyway!

And a HUGE thank you to Patsy for volunteering to take over the list!! I was about to start throwing all your names in a hat. ;)

So I'm going to meet with a pediatrician tomorrow. Any suggestions on questions I should ask? I do have a list already, but don't want to forget anything.

And then Thursday is our first birthing class. How did time go so quickly? yikes! 2 months from today is my due date!

The biggest thing I've noticed over on the Newest Mom's thread (reguarding pediatricians) is vaccination schedules.

Some moms want a pediatrician that is more lenient and will let them pick an alternative schedule, while others don't mind following the set ones recommended by the government.

Ask people around you, too. It's amazing how many people have opinions or have heard stories and from my experience you learn good things this way.
For example, I have friends that are RNs and a cousin that is a pharmacist. My cousin knows most of the area doctors because of her job and has told me who she finds friendly, knowledgable, etc.

I need to get on the ball huh? I don't have a pediatrician here for Alexander nevermind the new baby. There is a family practice in town that I think I want all of us to go to ... I have heard great things about them and they are pro-delaying vax which I like.

I had my 28 week appointment today. Very exciting ... NOT. Had the RhoGam shot. The nurse came in and asked which arm I wanted it in ... I told her I would prefer it in the butt!! She was shocked, said NO ONE requests it in the butt. I figure it's fleshier, I always have it in the butt and know what to expect. It honestly wasn't that bad. Got my glucose test from 26 week results ... they want the number to be under 130. Mine was 70. She told me to eat more protien and did an blood test for iron. Get to go back in two weeks agian!!

I started painting Ryan's room yesterday and it took me forever to figure out where to put the stripes on the wall. I think I have it down now, just need to tape off the rest of the room and paint it. Lots of work but that's ok!!

I don't know if this applies to you or not, but at our pediatric group there are residents and attendings. So if you were interviewing ours I would suggest you ask about how easy it is to see an attending, for well checks and sick visits. Other than that, ask about their hours, weekend policy, what they do if your kid is sick (as in will they see you that day or not).

We never interviewed ours in advance as we chose them because my husband worked with several of the attendings in the group at Children's hospital. But if it weren't for that, I would never go to them as the wait time for well visits with "my" ped (as opposed to just any dr in the group, resident or attending) is nuts. We have never really done a sick visit, I think just 2, so I can't say how that would work really, but I am sure I would be seeing a resident.
