Moms to Be Part 3

I hadn't thought of that KikiMouse. I was going to have my husband mention it to an OB at work cause they'll be able to get me in, but I may just call and ask for a nurse visit if they'll let me do it like that. Not that the antibiotics are a big deal, but if I can avoid unnecessarily taking them it would be nice. With my son I didn't end up having GBS, but since they had no idea they gave me the meds anyway.

We also do not have a name for our baby yet, but also no nickname. Of course, I am feeling immense panic at this point as I have no idea what to do with the name and have about 3 weeks max to decide. I think I am actually leaning towards Scarlett at this point, but my daughter is so set on it being Tierney that I have so much guilt about not choosing that name. And that was my #1 choice since my last baby, but everyone keeps telling me she'll always have to spell it, pronounce it, etc. and I don't know if she'll want to be saddled with that, as I hate that feature of my name. It's Justine, but I am constantly called Justin, having my name misspelled, and it is so irritating. I particularly hated it as a kid.

The middle name I was set on Elizabeth, but my daughter's idea of Tierney Scarlett, while I don't think it flows as well, is a decent compromise, so I am so, so torn. Oh, and what adds to my guilt is that my son wants the name to be Scarlett, so I feel like if I choose that my daughter's going to feel like he "won", so to speak. And I *hate* the idea of her feeling slighted, like I chose 'his' name over 'hers', even though I came up with both without their input. Sigh.

My husband got the day off today (which we just learned 2 days ago), so I added a day of gymnastics camp for my kids and we spent the day at the Holocaust Museum. I had attempted to go once before with my BIL and his GF, but there was a huge, huge crowd, so by the time we actually got in I had about 15 minutes before I had to pick up my son from school. It's just not a museum kids would enjoy at all, and therefore neither would I if I had my kids as I would not have been able to read anything. So it was nice to be able to enjoy something without them and before the new baby is here. Since we'll likely be moving to Tucson in July, I figure I should see all the DC stuff I have taken for granted in the years we've lived here. Of course walking all day has me pretty tired at the moment so I'm just hanging out on the couch, watching my husband paint touch-ups on the wall. Now, he's doing all this to get the house ready to sell, but he's not thinking about the fact that having tiny kids, by the time we list this place he'll likely need to repaint!

Justhat, are you in the city proper or outside the city? We're up at Ft Meade which is about 40ish minutes north of the city. We noth grew up in Manassas VA, which is an hour or so south of the city. We're tlaking about going to DC tomorrow to check out museums or something.. I'm going stir crazy in the house!

We're calling ours Spike for now. No one gets to know her name until she's born.

haha! I love it! We were going to wait until the baby was born to tell everyone the name because I was worried that people would have to pretend to like it even if they didn't. Well, we started telling people and while my cousin was super mean about it everyone else has been receptive! My mom calls her by her name all the time, but it's me that still calls her "the baby" or "bean" because she is like a jumping bean all the time!

I hope that everyone has a Happy New Year!!! I'm hoping to stay up til midnight but I'm so tired! Going to PF Changs for dinner and then coming home to watch the ball drop. I hope everyone else has a good night!! :goodvibes

Yep, inside the city. We're a few blocks away from the National Zoo. Tomorrow would likely be a good day for the museums as the Holocaust Museum was empty today, comparatively anyway. Last week I went to Air and Space and Natural History while my friends were visiting and those were decently crowded, but still not too bad.

Hulagirl - What's your baby's name? Or are you waiting on sharing that with the general public?

Well, looks like I am joining you ladies again.

AF was late so I took a test tonight to be sure whether or not I could drink at the party... nope!

Digital tests don't allow for much error sooo here I am!

I have no idea what my due date would be. I can't remember when my last period was but I'm guessing I'll be due sometime around the end of August.

I can't believe I'm already back!

Hulagirl - I think the name sounds really pretty!

Oh, and my other 2 kids had names early on in my pregnancies, but I never called them by name till they were out either.

Piecey - Wow, congrats!! What exciting New Year's news! If it helps at all, I had my positive test on 12/20 and my son was due 8/29.

My kids are sitting with me and totally in love with the photo of Lucas in your signature. Henry asked if he's our baby and when I said no, ours isn't out yet, he said he'll take Lucas. ;)

I think my kids' beds are calling them now so I should go. I spent the entire afternoon contracting regularly, which if I didn't already have 2 kids and know what my real labor contractions feel like would really have freaked me out. Nonetheless, it has been extremely uncomfortable and annoying. And also somewhat frightening about how soon this baby will actually be out in the world!

ETA: Forgot the updated list! I made up a due date for you Patsy, so when you find out a real one I'll change it.

Looks like we may hit the zoo tomorrow! It's supposed to be in the low 40s so not too cold once we put on coats. They have the Zoolights that night and military get in free, so we're gonna make a day out of it :)

CONGRATS!!! That is so exciting (and even though I hope to have #2 in a couple years, I am a little jealous - mostly because I miss being pregnant - but I will get over it at the 4am feeding tonight ;) )!! I know that you were on the fence for a little while about #2, but I am sure that you will be raising two kids that will be the best of friends! Lucas will never remember not having a sibling :)

PATSY .... I just messaged you on FB!! OMG ... CONGRATS! I am so excited for you!! That's crazy.

We had trouble nailing down our name for awhile but we have it now. Ryan Bradford. When Alexander was born I wanted to change his name to Ryan but DH wouldn't let me. When we found out I was pregnant and it was a boy we were toying with Oliver and William as well but neither felt right. Once we decided on Ryan it just felt right. Bradford is my brother's name. I have a thing about having one of the names being a "family" name of some sort. Nothing hard core but I'd like to use a name that has meaning somewhere, you know? It's funny, we like the name a lot but neither of us LOVES the name it just feels right. We have shared the name and we get good responses but we know that people don't LOVE it. It just works for us. It's hard to describe! My DS, Alexander Stephen ... Alexander is a family name from my father's side and Stephen is the only male name on my DH's side. My father (and I guess me!) is a decendent of the pilgrams and my brother's name being Bradfrod, we like that name.

I am having sooo much pain these days. The next 2.5-3 months are not going to be fun, I don't think. DH and I went to dinner tonight and it was a nice long visit at The Capital Grill. Sitting upright in a chair for 2+ hours then the drive home and there killed my hips and my pelvis. I could barely walk in the house. It's the same pain I had at 32+ weeks with Alexander but I was working at a desk then. I don't get it as much now because I am up and a lot more active now then I was then. I was taken out of work at 36.5 weeks due to the pain before ... too bad noone can take me out of being a SAHM!!

Justine, that looks like a good approximation. I know I had a period in November but I have no idea when. Assuming it was a perfect 28 days after the one in October I'd be due 8/31.

I'll opt for a planned c-section this time so I figure it'll be earlier than that.

Yay. Nothing like being pregnant all summer! hahaha.

Patsy - Adi is right. My kids are 2 years, 5 months apart and my daughter has no recollection of life before Henry, so Lucas will never know otherwise. And while there were definitely times I thought I was nuts, let me tell you, it was much easier to grasp the idea of a 2nd kid when my first kid was still babyish than it is right now. Everytime I think about how I will have a little cling-on 24 hours a day for the next 2 or so years I sort of freak out. I love having my kids in school everyday and getting some time to do things on my own and that will soon cease.

With Henry the only reason I knew my LMP (as we were not planning on conceiving that month) was cause we flew to Arizona the day it started and it was a miserable 4+ hour flight in that airplane bathroom! Anyway, it was 11/22.

DMickey - I so feel for you with the pain/pressure! Having it from 32 weeks is bad enough, but from 27 weeks is even worse.

I like the name Ryan a lot, it's my nephew's name. Oliver was a contender for a boy's name for us too. I just wish we had the same luck of liking a ton of girls names!

Time to bathe Madison so she can go to her friend's house.

Whoa!!! What?! Patsy, did I miss somethimg? Are you pregnant again? Or is it just a chance of pregnany at this point?

ETA: I read back a page. Congrats Patsy! If it helps you to estimate your due date, with my last pg I got my BFP the week between xmas & new years, maybe 12/28, or was it 12/26? I recall I tested & got a + the day my period was due & my due date was 9/5.... good luck! I would think that with 2 pregnancies so close together most OBs would encourage a planned c/s -- just guessing tho. :)

Yeah, maybe. My OB pushes for VBACs but she is quite aware that I would not choose to go that route...

From what DH and I can remember I had my period before Thanksgiving... so that'd be August for sure. I don't remember it at all but I know I had one or I wouldn't have waited this long to test.

I'm just hoping the OB will do an ultrasound, because I honestly have no idea. I'll just tell her the last period I remember was in October but I'm relatively sure I had one in November. haha.

Justine, I know what you meant about you remember the periods that start at sucky times. The only reason I knew my LMP for Lucas was because it started the day of my FIL's funeral and I was like "great! more icing on the poop cake!"

Patsy - I think you'll be lucky with the VBAC not happening, not only cause you want the c-section, but cause of the spacing. My friend whose kids were really close together too, she had a c-section with the 1st kid and her OB was pro-VBAC too. Well, cause there was less than 1.5 year between kids he told her that there was a higher risk of uterine rupture so he scheduled a c-section for just under 39 weeks to (sort of anyway) ensure she didn't go into labor on her own.

And since I was lurking on the new mom thread, my first 2 kids were the result of 1 time each. With the 1st it was totally, completely unplanned, and I think I told you, I was just about your age (she was conceived days after my 22nd birthday), we were both in school, so a baby was the last thing on our minds for at least another year.

With the 2nd, my husband thought it would be a good time to start on #2. I momentarily agreed to that as I had baby fever for so long. The next day I said "Wait a sec, if I get pregnant now I'd be due the end of August and who wants to be pregnant all summer?" Well obviously it was too late!

This kid though, this kid was well planned and actually somewhat of a challenge to conceive. I say somewhat cause I know some women have it much, much harder, but it took awhile. When my son was about 1.5yo my cycle got really messed up and stayed that way for over a year. I used to know exactly when I ovulated and that all went away, plus I'd spot literally from about day 13 till AF officially started. Every single month. My OB happened to break his hip during this time, so I had to see another dr in the group, who was so indifferent and really didn't do much other than test my thyroid levels and do STD testing (which annoyed me cause I knew that wasn't the cause and it was a waste of time). The month this baby was conceived was the 1 normal cycle I had in all that time, so I really think it was luck.

Anyway, that is probably more than you care to know! But yeah, I went through the shock of 2 surprise babies and all those emotions that go along with it. And I had the same reaction you did from my mom. Well, not that the dr told me to wait as that wasn't an issue, but I said I wanted the 2nd one about 3 years after the 1st and my mom's response when we told her was "I thought you said 3 years?" My son was due almost exactly 2.5 years after my daughter's birthday, so really, not like it was that far off, but honestly, what difference did it make to her? She lives out of state so not like it affects her much at all. She got over it in time though and got excited and stuff, so I bet your mom will too.

I think I'll get our bassinet out and semi-setup upstairs. I hesitate to actually have anything together cause our cats seem to think all baby products are little hammocks for them to nap in. But after a day of contracting literally every 3-5 minutes, I am thinking actual labor can't be too far off. I've only had about 4 contractions so far today so hopefully I'll be a little more comfortable than I was yesterday.

Hey everyone just wanted to let you all know that Jake Ryan was born on Dec 19,2009 at 3:44pm.He weighed 6 pds 12 oz and was 19 1/2 inches.I was induced on Friday night and he was born by c-section on Saturday afternoon because his heart rate started going down with the contractions and it turned out that the cord was around his neck.He was fine after birth thank goodness.I was in the hospital untill the day before Christmas eve.I will post more about the birth and pictures later but it is time to feed him now.

My daughter was invited to a friend's house today, so I initially said I'd bring her at 10am. Well last night I got an email from the mom and she asked if I could do 9/9:30 instead. So my husband gets her there at 9:15 and the friend is still sleeping and the whole family still in pajamas! Uh, what!?! So he calls me and said "From now on you are bringing her, how embarrassing!" But really, if you invite someone for 9am, wouldn't you at least have your kid be awake?

In a couple of hours my husband and son are going to see Avatar (well, my husband seems to think my son will watch it anyway, I have my doubts), then my daughter has a birthday party at 3pm, which I need to buy a gift for at some point. And I have a new cold, wonderful. I feel like I have just gotten cold after cold this fall, and I am starting to panic thinking about how sick this baby is going to be with all the germs my kids bring home from school.
