Mole removal? Share your experiences please

Hi everyone,
I have a mole on my chest that I really hate. I have had it checked by a dermatologist who said it wasn't dangerous but I hate how it looks and it affects what I can wear.

I would love to hear any advice about how to get rid of it or hear about people's experiences.

Has anyone tried a "mole remover"? I saw something at the health food store that claimed to remove moles.

As a child, I had one from my nose and one from my back removed surigically. I have small scars from both.

I don't believe for one minute that a "mole remover" would work. I know that mine had to be removed by digging down to the "root" or whatever. I believe moles don't just discolor the outer layers of the skin but are deep down. Of course, I could be wrong, but I wouldn't spend money on a remover. Good luck! What did your dermatologist recommend?

My dermatologist offered to remove it when I was there but I chickened out - now I am kicking myself big-time.

Does anyone know anything about red moles as well? My mom has them and now that I am in my 30's I noticed I am starting to get them too. They are tiny bright red marks - I have 2 on my chest and I just found one on my upper arm too. This mole thing is so upsetting - they make me feel so self-conscious.

I would go back to the dermatologist with an appointment to discuss removal.

They should be taken off medically for safety as they do have to do in deep.

Although, I had a bad experience, but that was with the doctor, not the mole! I have three small ones on my back and I just hate them. I was told by my dermatologist they were not harmful. I asked to have them removed and he said I couldn't afford it! I was all WTH (okay it was the other letter) but I was really mad. How would he know?

I've had a few removed. It is as simple as they give you a shot to numb the area and use a scaple to remove them, and apply a band aid. My dad had a large one removed that he had to have a stitch in to close up. Really not a big deal. I just tell my dermatologist that the mole itches, or bugs me. She takes them off and they send it to the lab to be analysed. My insurance pays for all of it since it's not for "cosmetic" reasons.

I have had a couple removed. In fact I went to the derm on Monday to get a body check and I had a skin tag removed under my eye.

I also need a cyst removed however I am waiting on that.

Just go back and get the thing cut out. You will have scar.

I have the little red ones you mentioned. The Derm. Dr. called them some medical name I can't remember and said they are nothing. They just look like little red dots.

I also had a mole removed off the back of my neck. I told the dr. I sometime hit it when brushing my hair. It took 30 seconds once it was number and I have a little round crater like scar that you can't really see.

I had a rather large (to me, anyway) one removed from me face, in exactly this way. It was not painful at all, and it did leave a small scar, but it blends with my face, where the mole was very dark and stuck out.

I am also getting the red moles now. I went to a dermatologist, who told me they are like age spots. Great. I had one on the end of my nose for over two years. I hated it, because I could cover it with make-up but by the end of the day it looked like I had a zit there. It's finally gone away on its own. I have a few on my legs too. I was just relieved they weren't skin cancer.

Aren't the red ones the worst? Ugh, the joys of aging.

I scheduled a Dermatologist appt for next Friday - I can't wait to have this ugly thing removed once and for all.

I've only had them removed by a dermatologist. Some Novocaine, slice it off, slap a bandaid on it, send it for biopsy, it comes back negative, life is good.

it's easy and quick. they sometimes use a laser scalpel for the larger ones but it doesn't hurt either. It can sting a little like any small wound once the novocaine wears off but it's nothing horrible.

i get skin tags taken off every few years and have had a large mole removed from my back. It always worried DH and was right where my bra strap went across so finally had it off.

I had one removed on my arm. It was always visible to the sun so I was concerned about skin cancer and it was starting to change shape. It wasn't as easy a process as everyone else described. I did have novcaine, but I also had stiches. I think my doctor messed up (this was basically confirmed by another doc) because I ended up with a huge scar, even though I followed all directions and the doctor originally said it looked fine. A mole that was less than 1/2 an inch became a huge 2 inch discolored scar that sometimes still aches. I think he removed the stiches too early, because it looks like I never had stiches and it never healed correctly. In the future I'm looking into having it fixed by a plastic surgeon.

I hate to tell you a horror story, but I would hate to have it happen to you. My doctor was a dermatologist too. Just check out your doctor well and inquire about scarring before you have it done.

Do it! I too had a large mole on my chest and I am super pale so it was very noticeable. My sports bra also sat directly on top of it and it would get sore when I ran long distances. It was very easy and I'm so glad I did it. Can't even see the scar on me.

I had a mole on my chest as well, right in the middle of my cleavage. The dermatologist removed it by freezing it and then using a scalpel, I think because I didn't watch

I had one removed from my nose - it was more of a freckle than a mole. They did a punch biopsy first, and although it was not cancerous, it was atypical, so I elected to have it removed.

The procedure was done by a skin surgeon, not a regular dermatologist. They put novocaine on it and sliced off a pointy oval-shaped piece of skin off. They also cauterized as they went and I had several stitches.

I do have a scar, but it isn't too bad. I'd rather have a scar than worry about what might become of the mole.

Do the laser scapels leave less of a scar? I want to get a couple removed.

Same here, but I did have stitches on a couple of them. I have had to go back for a couple of them because the Dr. didn't dig the root out and they started growing back. I have one right now that's doing that and it's really bugging me. This particular one I wish I didn't have removed now because the scar looks worse than the mole did (which was a flat mole, not very raised at all), and hairs grow out of it so I pluck them out as soon as I notice them! I know that sounds gross, but just thought I'd mention that in case anyone else is wondering if the hair stops growing on that area when the mole is removed (no). The other ones I was glad I had removed and the scars are not that bad at all.

Also, I am a wimp when it comes to needles and the shot they gave me before they removed my moles did not hurt and were quick.

That's good to know. I am a total wimp too which is why I chickened out the last time I was supposed to have it removed.

Dr removed it without a problem. It's quick and relatively painless.

lemme ask a dumb question... to those that have had them removed... what caused you to remove them?? I feel like the mole queen, I have tons of tiny ones literally everywhere and one on my hip (like the size of a pencil eraser that I call fish bait.. long story!) but have never thought of removing them... am I missing something??
