Mojitos - Where is the best place?

I didn't backtrack - but here is a picture of the Bongo's "to go"version (left):

Hello to Poohbear. my fellow native Miamian!:)

Thanks for the picture, ehagerty. I also enjoy your writing style. I get a great feel for your sense of humor. Would love to see more pictures and/or hear more stories from you over the next 12 days. Guess I will just click on your name and "chase" your posts. So keep 'em coming! Thanks!

Ok, I'm cheating because it's right outside of Disney World, but Bahama Breeze, which is right outside the Downtown Disney gates has the best Mojito I've ever had, with real sugar cane juice and a stick of sugar cane right in it.

I agree! Go to Bahama Breeze -- large, fresh, muddled mint and lime with a piece of sugar cane.

Tambu lounge has a GREAT raspberry mojito! YUM...nice and big too..i think i had 3 of them during our stay there last month..and one was "to go"..nothing like sippin on one of those, sittin on a beachswing with your honey and watching the EWP go by.....i  disney! :)

The Samba Room on West Sand Lake has incredible mojitos. Their coconut mojitos are amazing :)

Cheers!

My DH had a social function there a couple of months ago and they were serving mojitos from trays. They were made with the mojito syrup (we watched the bartender and I could also tell by the taste), so I didn't think they were as good as ones made "natural."

I just want to say that if you see the bartender using a syrup in a mojito, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is a "mojito mix." It could very well be a simple syrup (sugar and water boiled until sugar dissolves) which is called for in many drink recipes and used at many high end establishments.

Now, if that syrup is flavored with mint and lime, and no real mint is muddled in the drink, and the mint and lime is placed in the drink and is simply garnish, then I would consider that a premade "mix."

Also, sometimes they have different procedures for mass quantities of drinks. In a case like that...where the mojito is a specialty cocktail of the night, they may premake them. I hate that!:snooty:

Why, thank you - and your welcome, fellow WLL (Wilderness Lodge Lover). I probably have a thousand pictures from our most recent vacation (was it only one week ago I came home - time is so strange!). If I upload a "series" every other day or so, it may take me up to the DVC member cruise and snippet of Food & Wine in October. Golly, I love Southwest - so many non-stop flights at DING prices - I even earned a frequent flier credit this year! I usually do food pictures first, but I may just work on the Wilderness Lodge photos next in honor of your screenname. Stay tuned!!

Awww, Pooh...you will be in WDW for my Bday! Will you please have a drink for me on Aug 8?:goodvibes

We will be at the Dolphin Sept 28-Oct 2. Doing PftS, MNSSHP, Cal Grill during Wishes...seeing Al Stewart at the ETTB concert at Epcot, Biergarten one night...I just can't wait!:cool1:

ehagerty-Well, as much as I LOVE the WL...I also love food pictures, so those will make me happy, also! So either way, I am sure I will enjoy your reports and photos! I am especially looking forward to some F&W stuff. We were there this past Oct, also, for a full week! So maybe our paths crossed.

  • I wasn't at the 2006 F&W. We will be at the 2007 F&W for a few days.

Thanks! I posted on your WL thread!:goodvibes

Now...getting this thread back on topic....I was also thrilled to learn you can get mojitos "to go" at Bongos. I guess DTD has different rules than most outdoor shopping places...although, I guess I have never tried to get an alcoholic beverage while shopping in an outdoor area like that here at home. Hmmmm, I may have to investigate that, do a little scientific research and start asking around at different places.....

Oh, and coincidentally, I was reading a back issue of Food and Wine last night and there was a recipe for "coconut mojitos" in there. I'll see if I can find the recipe....

I sure will, a Mojito for sure!:thumbsup2

The first place I've ever tried Mojito's and they've been the best I've had so far, was at the Victoria Falls Lounge in AKL. They make a regular and a mango, and they're to die for. I've tried to replicate it at home to no avail, bought all kinds of mixes and it's just not the same. We actually called down there and asked them how they made them. They use a mix called Monin. Something to look into. Awesome Mojitos!
