Mojitos - Where is the best place?

I saw it on the menu at the Outer Rim Lounge in the Contemporary, but I didn't get one, so I don't know how good it is there.

I'm going to have to check out Bongos - makes sense they would make a good Mojito.

Are they like the other PI Clubs where you can take it to go?

I don't recall the "name" - like whether it was an "ultimate" mojito (like Friday's) - but I know I ordered the house special one...

Ok, it is 8 a.m. and now *I* am craving one, too!

*thinking about trying to make some with vodka...opinions?*

Martha Stewart has a great sounding recipe for a vodka mojito - - was traditional simple syrup and then left to sit with fresh cherries that you pit (not that hard, just be prepared for pink/purpley fingers)... add vodka to that and serve over ice. I have the cherries, syrup and vodka.... now I must go muddle!

Ok, I'm cheating because it's right outside of Disney World, but Bahama Breeze, which is right outside the Downtown Disney gates has the best Mojito I've ever had, with real sugar cane juice and a stick of sugar cane right in it.

Yes, yes, yes!! The one at Bongos is a must! One of the best that I have ever had. Maybe I got lucky but we had a many few mojitos over the week that we were there and we never disappointed! mmmm...makes me want one on this hot summer night!

Does Bongos have a bar where you can just go for a drink, or do you have to be eating there to try one of their mojitos?

According to the menu, the resort bars use mojito syrup. I think Bongos made real ones.

don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but we had mojitocoosee's at narcoosee's (their spin on a mojito) and they were REALLY good! it wasn't a true mojito because i'm pretty sure it had some sort of juice in it (orange or maybe pineapple), but it was still really good. and we make mojitos all the time at home, so we are mojito lovers, too!

here's a pic of the mojitocoosee.....

now i'm gonna have to try one at bongo's on our next trip!

I am waiting for your report! And if it is a thumbs up report:thumbsup2 please post the recipe! Were mint leaves involved? Thanks!

I had this last night and it WAS excellent (the one on route 535). I couldn't say whether it was more or less authentic than Bongo's - but BB grinds the sugar cane right there. I thought it had a distinct, but mild, anise "note" - a very nice blend of the flavors - mint, lime, sugar cane, rum ( Bacardi - nothing exotic). I happen to really like licorice (especially the local confectionary's home made), so I considered this a bonus. If you don't like licorice, you may not.

Seems as though the mojito is the current drink fad - there will probably be many varieties to choose from - the "purest" - the "cover it up with strawberry syrup" - sounds like a great opportunity to keep experimenting!

For context, I have only had mojitos at:
- Bongos (first time 2004 - like it a lot - I think because of the rum quality); now an annual tradition
- Fridays (relatively bland - one note - but available year round)
- Bahama Breeze (first time last night, review above)
That is the limit of my frame of reference - for what it is worth!

PS - the only reason I even ordered the mojito at BB was the recommendation from this board - which was triggered in my brain by a drink coaster under my water glass.

Is it wrong that, now that I have looked at your incredible and artistic pictures of WL, Narcoosee's, CG and others, I am wishing you had a *picture* of each mojito you tried?:confused3 What beautiful threads your links are! Thanks for those! And of course your detailed mojito reviews!:goodvibes

A touch OT, but for all you mint mojito lovers, you've got to try one with basil and lemon juice!

Out of this world :thumbsup2

And, no, I don't know where to find one on property. I found one at a local Italian restaurant (small family-owned, not a chain).

I would be hard pressed to see pure artistry in the mojitos I've had, without natural light to do something special!! It is a very good idea, though - and I will start today - although I can't predict when I will consume my next mojito.

Typically, I have only a drink a day on vacation (at home, hardly ever) - so the likelihood of too many more mojitos is slim - since I will probably have my daily dose in the form of complementary (wish it was complimentary!!) wine with dinner.

Good news though, I am IN Disney, and will be here for another 12 days, so there's hope. That, and it seems every restaurant is cooperating with the mojito-of-the-moment fad.

As a matter of fact, I did have a very good one Friday night at Tu Tu Tango (review will be a different thread). They, too, claim authencity (as did Bahama Breeze). It, too, was quite good. Didn't have the anise overtones of Bahama Breeze, didn't have the high-end-rum flavors of Bongos - plain, but good.

(Bad is where the so-so rum is the predominant note).

The basil lemon combo sounds good, too. Typically, I don't order the "doctored" versions (or any drink - such as a marguerita) with flavored syrups. Not that I don't like them - or think they are a bad idea, I just prefer savory to sweet - and it can be tough comparing the "original" to a "variant".

Anyway, I've been out of touch for a couple of days (room change). Will have to get caught up. Pictures uploading as we speak.....

Contemporary Pool bar - Have Ed make you one with the Sugar Cane Rum.

Very, very good!

Here, too. I made the mistake once of ordering a mojito at a Dave & Busters, I believe, and they made it with a premade mix. Blech.

The lemon/basil mojitos were from scratch. I watched them being made. Fresh basil leaves mottled with some simple syrup, then fresh lemon juice, lotsa rum, shaken up a bit, then strained into an ice-filled glass with a fresh lemon wedge and basil leaf. Definitely a bit more on the tart side than most mint mojitos I've had -- but excellent nonetheless!

Also wanted to add I love the pic in your signature. I think it's one of the best on the boards!
