if we (wife and 2 daughters, 11 & 7) don't dress up? We are planning to surprise the girls with our going to MNSSHP the day of the event and really don't want to worry about packing costumes, deciding on one, etc. Plus, our 11 year old probably would not even want to as she is in that "I don't know what is cool" middle school period! So....will we be outcasts if we don't dress-up? Newbies to MNSSHP and need some expert advice!

THANKS, in advance!

We are not dressing up, just wearing t-shirts. Go have fun and don't worry about the costumes! :goodvibes

No - don't worry! Last year dd's did bring halloween costumes but it was WAY to hot to wear them. We all had halloween t-shirts from Old Navy and that was fine. We were far from the only ones not in costume.

While its fun to dress up there are plenty of people who do not. My 17 year old did not want to join in our pirate fun last year so she got a halloween tee shirt from the disney store and wore that. When people asked what she was she said she was "the voice of reason" (I guess we were very silly pirate:

We are bringing a costume for dd2 but also a backup outfit for comfort when the thrill of the costume wears off. My dh & I are just wearing Halloween t-shirts.

Not to worry. My DD6 is the only one dressing up with us. I also have a middle school DS13 and dressing up is "gay" to him. Sorry, I do not mean to offend anyone by saying that!!! It is not my thoughts, it is his. He drives me nuts! :confused3

I think 50% or less dress up. You won't be the only one.

But it sure is fun!

We attended our first MNSSHP in 2003 and DH & I just wore Halloween t-shirts and DD dressed up as a princess. It was so fun looking at everyone's costumes that we vowed the next time we went to MNSSHP we'd all dress up.

Last year we attended MNSSHP twice. The first night we all dressed up and it was lots of fun. DH enjoyed it a bit more than me because my costume (Cleopatra) got itchy & uncomfortable as the night wore on. DH was super comfy-he was wearing a toga! The second night we went I didn't want to get uncomfortable again so I didn't dress up, DH didn't dress up since I didn't. DD dressed up both nights as a pirate girl.

I have to say we always had a wonderful time at the party, dressed in costumes or not, but there was something that made the party more special when we were in costumes. We seemed to interact with other guests and CMs more. We'll definitely dress up again when we go next year but I'm going to wear a comfortable costume!

You can always go as a tourist! DH and I did this last year. We had t-shirts from our Disney Cruise and wore fake lei's.

It will probably be hot so dress accordingly if you do decide to wear a "costume".

It is a lot of fun, no matter how you're dressed.

We didn't wear costumes, or even anything with a Halloween theme, and not a word was said to us about it.

It's our 1st MNSSHP... me, dh and my girls (9 & 11) are wearing "Nightmare Before Christmas" T-shirts that we'll make. Wear what you're comfortable in and have fun! You may end up in a jacket by the end of the night anyway... :maleficen

This will be our third MNSSHP and we have never worn costumes. Last year my DD wore the Halloween themed t-shirt and leggins from Target. The first year she wore Old Navy Halloween pajamas. The rest of us always wear Halloween themed shirts. This year we are all wearing matching orange and purple tie-dyes. We have never felt out of place and have always been comfortable.

The only thing to keep in mind is, if your kids like to be in the spotlight, you might want to bring them in costumes. Kids in costumes get to walk in mini parades and get a lot of attention. My kids hate attention, so we do quite well in regualr clothes! :)

We too are more than likely just wearing shirts for our 1st MNSSHP. Actually we are going twice this year and we will shirts....

We aren't dressing up either. When I asked my husband if he wanted to dress up - oh my goodness the look he gave me  It is impossible to find warm weather costumes where we live so we will be wearing old navy halloween shirts and my kids are fine with that. We will all be too busy having fun to worry about it.

I made a "random fairy godmother" costume for our first MNSSHP, but it was far too hot to wear it. DH had a Halloween t from Target, and that was much better. Subsequent years I got tees from Old Navy and that was fine for us. It's strange to be trick or treating in 80 degree weather when you're from the north!

We didn't dress up when we went and had no problems. By not dressing up we didn't have to worry about being too hot or getting the costumes spilled on. I'm not sure that we would dress up if we went again either.

I'm sure you won't be shunned. But why is everyone going to a Halloween Party and NOT dressing up. What fun is that?
