This was to be a milestone trip for us. It was the first time DS and I were to go to WDW without DW and on a lesser note it was also our first stay at CSR. Booking a room at CSR was quite an achievement for us. Every time we had called CRO in the past, a great Deluxe AP deal was also available or the only thing they had left were the suites for $8 million dollars a night (or so it seemed). This time it was the best deal available. However, this time DW needed to be at the office on Saturday and responded to my off the cuff joke that I can take DS to MNSSHP alone with a “let’s call to see what’s available. So is this a disaster in the making or does DW truly have the conviction that DD can handle it alone? Her constant hints all week long to DS to stay close to daddy at all times and her goodbye to me as she left for work Friday morning softly but firmly telling me I better bring her baby home in one piece weren’t confidence boosters. :rolleyes1

Friday 10/27

I am not a huge stickler for planning, but immediately we had a shift in departure time. Originally, our plan was for DS to go to school on Friday and leave from there at 2:00 pm. That would have given us an ETA of 5:00 pm, ample time before the start of MNSSHP. The day before, DW suggests to me to leave in the morning and start our day early. Twist my arm. No problem, except that I had a couple of must do’s that needed to be done for work. Either I’m a dedicated worker bee or a procrastinator. Guess which one. :surfweb: I get em done and we push off at 11:00 am and arrive at CSR at 2:00. We check in and get assigned a room in Casita 2. As we come up to the room, we see two towel swans waiting for us in the window. Very cute and we decide that not to touch them for the next guest’s enjoyment. I notice that every other room along the walk way has some sort of towel critter in the window. Not being the nosey type, I don’t verify that this is occurring in other floors or other buildings. AFAIK, our Mousekeeper could just have a LOT of spare time on her hands. Checking the map, bus stop 2 was the closest stop, so after packing DS’s fireman costume and Mickey pumpkin bucket, we head on out to MK. We quickly learn that bus stop 2 is the first stop in the CSR rotation and determine that we’ll walk that little extra bit to bus stop 1 on our next trip out. MNSSHP die-hard fans may be asking where the heck is DD’s costume. While I do have a big bad wolf mask at home, which I have never worn it outside of answering the front door to trick or treaters and other stuff. DW calls me a stick in the mud sometimes, but she didn’t say that when she had bought her little red riding hood costume. :smokin: Maybe I’ll dress up next year, as I did see a lot more adults dressed up this year.

It was just before 4:00pm and they were already issuing the wristbands and goody bags for the event at the gate. The park was emptying out and we were able to hit almost every one of DS’s favorite rides/attractions before the event even started. This was our 3rd MNSSHP; each time the experience gets better….. which actually isn’t that hard to do. The first year, it was wall-to-wall people, each station was only giving out one piece of candy, and to top it off it was like 90° out with 100% humidity. We almost talked ourselves into never going again. The second time was better since we knew what to expect (getting a costume appropriate for the weather is very important). We made sure and had a warm weather backup plan. This time, the weather was truly awesome for the event with a cool front passing through that evening. Maybe because they have so many MNSSHP events, the crowds were very manageable prior to 9:00 pm.

Like the last time, the CM’s were very generous with the goodies. In fact, we only hit the stations in Toontown and Tomorrowland and still filled DS’s bucket. We spent the rest of the evening enjoying Elvis Stitch at Cosmic Rays, dinner at Cosmic Rays and finished up at POC before settling in for the fireworks. I must say, there was a mom that I kept seeing over the course of the evening that was in this pumkin orange skin tight Tigger suit. Wow. Even other moms were giving second looks and giving the silent "Wow". I thnk everyone in the park that night knows who I am talking about. We mosey back out to the resort buses while a surprising number of people were still waiting to come into the gates. I know there's a lot more to do, but we did it last year and DS is looking tired, but I bet I'll be snoring first. So far he still in one piece. :woohoo:

Sounds like a great start to your trip! Can't wait to hear more!

We've been to two MNSSHP's (2004 and 2005), but unfortunately weren't able to go this year, so I love reading about other's great experiences!

Waving HI from another South Floridian.. :cool1:. Great start to your report! DD and I are going Sunday with out DH!

 Hi Avivasmom - I grew up in Plantation (age 14 on up).

kaceyisme, I'd be interested in hearing your take on your first MNSSHP. Those were the same two years we went.

Silly me. I completely ignored trip report protocol and forgot to introduce ourselves. DH or DD (DisneyDad for this trip) is 40, married 12 years to DW (learned not to give age but a few years my junior), with DS who tuned 5 this past July.

Saturday 10/28

Ok, Saturday morning was going to start at the Martial Arts Festival in WWoS after a healthy breakfast at Micky D’s (or is it M-I-C-K-E-Y D’s?). Allow me this one OT comment…. For years, I had thought that their breakfasts were the only thing decent across their entire menu and if an owner/operator ever had the guts to go against their coveted operations manual and serve them all day long, they would make a ton of money. I read a couple of months ago that a few stores are trying pilots of an all day long limited breakfast menu. Duh, what took them so long?

Anyway, I didn’t have time to research how to take Disney transportation to WWoS, so we took the car. Maybe there is a way, but we didn’t see a Disney Transportation bus once while we were there. There. I said it. A DISer who didn’t properly research. Talk about bearing your soul. Disney’s WWoS is a very nice complex. Our PAP’s got us in but we quickly found out that for special events, we needed to buy special passes to get into the exhibition hall. DS’s dojo happens to be very involved with all Disney martial arts events. Since we were already going to be up there, I thought it was going to be a cool experience for DS. We only stayed for a couple of hours since DS kept saying that he wanted to go to BB even though it was like 70° out. Hoping that it might warm up a bit, I had packed a change of clothes and towels earlier in the morning. So I make a deal that if it is too cold, we were not staying and going back to the martial arts festival. Yup, I know what you all are thinking. That’s right, DD is WEAK!

The water temp at the wave pool was great since it’s not heated so that you don’t feel like you are freezing when you get out. The thing was we were still freezing when we got out! I swear I did not wait until DS’s lips were blue but I decided that hypothermia was not one of those things that DW would be happy about. So we dry off and make our way to the skylift for one ride on Teamboat Springs raft ride, DS favorite water ride. It was a slow day and the CM’s were waiting for people to show up at the top. If it wasn’t for the wind chill, I’d say it was bearable but flying down a raft getting wet wasn’t working out. I make the executive decision to grab lunch at Lottawatta Lodge and have a fried fest with their chicken strips and fish sticks with fries for the both of us. Heck, we are on vacation and I don’t have a dining plan forcing DS to eat twigs and sprouts. Plus, he only had one roll of Smarties out of the entire bucket of goodies so far. The funny thing to note was that during the summer, the tables with umbrellas or shade from trees are the ones always taken. I was now looking at the exact opposite. Never realized how many tables were in the shade as I settle for a table half shaded by a tree. On our way out they were giving out BB mugs (not the refillable ones) at the exits with the instructions to take as many as you can hold. We take 3, one for DW in absentia. I’m not greedy and cupboard space back at the hacienda is at a premium.

All dry and warmed up, we are walking out and the putt-putt golf at Winter-Summerland catches our eye. After dumping our beach bag and bonus mugs in the car, we head back to try something different. The first thing we notice is that there was a birthday party going on. Great venue for a birthday party, too bad we aren’t locals. For those who haven’t been there, there are two 18 hole courses, one winter themed and one summer themed. We chose the weather appropriate winter course, although those from Buffalo will certain disagree. DS did exceptionally well and literally beat me on at least 4 holes. A couple of holes were a little slippery and DS fell once and scraped his elbow a little. But like a trooper, he was ready for another 18 holes, but I convinced him to pace himself before he follows Tiger’s career path (crossing fingers). PS, we got I think ½ off for being AP/PAP holders - yet another great reason why you should have one.

We drive back to CSR to shower up and watch the first half of the football game f/k/a the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. I’m joining in the celebration with a Red Bull as I recharge for round 2. In the meantime, my DS manages to stop up the toilet. Sometimes I wonder in amazement how a kid that small make such a big umm “impact”. I called maintenance and the CM was there in 15 minutes. He gave DS a toy Donald and talked to DS in Donald speak. My first direct experience with WDW maintenance and it was a pleasure (and yes, I washed my hands after shaking his hand and thanking him). It’s halftime and I decide my Gators have built up enough of a lead and look in control so it’s a good to leave. It turns out they were trying to give the game back to the Dawgs in the second half but failed, so it was a good thing we left.

We go to bus stop 1 and the EPCOT bus rolls in within 15 minutes. The driver announces that the bus has to stop at BB to pick up any golfers at Winter-Summerland. Déjà vu. DS looks a me a little confused. :goodvibes I have one goal in mind. Since DW is not with us, I will not feel guilty taking DS on rides that DW does not like since she will not be waiting around for us. DS has never ridden TT and I decide that I’m going to wait a year before we try MS. Since it is already 6:00 our only option is the 60 minute standby line. It must have been a good night at TT because there we no breakdowns and we were in our car in 45 minutes. I think DS has a new favorite ride. It’s now my time to enjoy the trip and we get to sample the food and wine festival. After a nice red wine from Chile, some Chinese food at ND, a ride on the Maelstrom, we decide to head to MK just to ride the monorail. We caught the start of the fireworks, buy some cotton candy for us and a candy apple by request to bring back for DW.

There were four messages on our phone back at the resort consisting of two prerecorded messages telling us to prepare for the time change each sent twice. As far as I could tell, it was the exact same message but one was read by a guy and the other by a girl. I guess equal opportunity must run amok at WDW. So by the third message, it sinks in….Wahoo, a free hour! So at 11:30 PM we head out to the arcade in the main bldg since it really is only 10:30 according to dad logic. DS was born a night owl and will stay up if allowed. After some air hockey, pinball, and skee-ball we head back and I start the sad process of pre-packing for our checkout the next morning. Aside from the little scrape, he still is in one piece. :cool1:

Umm no donuts this time. While DS and I have sweet tooths, it's just not for cake products. The only two exceptions are hot fresh Krispy Kremes and hot fresh beignets. Must be the fried aspect. DS will eat the icing off a slice of birthday cake and leave the rest. Like father like son I guess.

So DW is not much of a bloger, not interested in bulletin boards, forums, etc. So while I go over the trip report with her last night, she corrects me in DW fashion that this was DS's 4th time at MNSSHP. I insist no, but she goes - "Let's see '03, '04, '05 and now '06 or baby Mickey, Dragon which we switched to Thomas the train because it was still too hot, Woody, and Fireman." She is right again! How does she do this time and time again? Uggg.

Anyhoo...

Sunday October 29

The time change could not have been better um... timed as I comfortably wake up at the “new” 7:00 AM and feel well rested. We had decided AK was our focus for our last day, centering around EE. Our plan was for DS and I to get FP's and then wait in the standby line for a "double header". Well, after we get our FP's I quickly shove them in my lanyard cardholder along with our AP's and get in the standby line which was already starting to build up. About 30 seconds later, I look down and notice that one FP was halfway out of the cardholder. I quickly do an inventory and suddenly panic after I find out that the other FP had either never made it into the pouch or had fallen out. I tell DS to wait in line and I jump out scanning the ground until I ask the CM attending the FP machines if anyone turned one in. Sadly but I guess not unexpected, it was "lost". I was now not able to get another one for another hour. To top it off, DS did not follow the people in front and fell behind the line while I was looking for the FP. When I jumped back in to the line where DS was standing, the people behind us were looking at me funny and commented loud enough for me to hear how I was jumping the line. I tried to tell them that we had actually fallen back about dozen or so people and that I had dropped a FP and was looking for it, but I kept getting the evil eye from the mom. Good thing she wasn't a mutant or I'd have a hole in the back of my head. I rationalized that she/they probably never saw DS standing there. Sigh... :confused3

After the ride (standby took about 25 minutes but it felt like 60 with evil eye mom behind me), we stopped by the FP entrance to explain the situation to the attending CM. The CM told me there was no way to "reset" his AP to get another FP (which I knew) but gave us a baby swap pass as a substitute for his lost FP. Cool, I was actually prepared to hand him the remaining FP if we could not get one. Sitting here typing this, the irony would have been that the person who found ours would probably have needed another and asked and could have got the second one if I gave it up. That person deserved the evil eye…..not me.

DS loves the boneyard and the dig site. We make our way over there and DS tell me to be the "princess" and go to the top so he can come rescue me. "princess"? I repeat again. "You mean prince". "No, princess" he says again. I make note that I'm going to have to have a talk with DW about these crazy games they are playing. So DD, the "princess" gets rescued and we slide down a couple of slides together. The CM watching over the triple slide area motions me over. She loves one of my Disney pins. It's one of those Disney Piglet pins done Tokyo anime style. I ask her if she knows Pocahontas or Ariel and if she knows if they like Piglet also. Well, at least that was what I wanted to ask her. :rotfl:

There a "shoes on" requirement at the dig site. Is this new, because it had never been mentioned to us before? We dig for some bones (where do they get that neat "sand"?) until we come across a kid that can not stop throwing sand after being instructed to stop on several occasions by the CM. No parent is stepping up as the CM starts looking around, so that was our cue to wrap it up there.

An early lunch at the Tusker House broke our tradition of never missing a meal at Flame Tree while at AK. I’m still partial to the smoke-house flavor of Flame Tree, but it was still very good. The only negative comment was that I don’t think one drumstick is enough for a kids meal. It’s a good thing my roasted chicken dish is plentiful and I give him healthy chunks of chicken.

I notice that ITTBAB :3dglasses (wow what an acronym) had only a 5 minute wait as we pass by. We have 20 minutes before the "window" on my FP is over. I ask the CM if that 5 minutes is acurate and he assures me. The show always gets DS in hysterics with the bugs leaving under your legs at the end. He hasn’t experienced the sting in the back yet. Wait until his legs are long enough (evil laugh). :lmao:

We circled back to EE and the CM collecting the FP’s quickly acknowledged what the baby swap ticket was for and ushered both of us through. Props to the CM's accommodating us, and boos (and the mom’s evil eye) to the person who got a FP "gift" that morning. :thumbsup2

We left the park at 1:30 and decided that we’ll kill some time and go to DQ before heading home. I check with central command and DW tells us to take our time. DS loves these Japanese video dance machines even though he doesn’t quite get the hang of it. Apparently they are a hit because they’ve added another version making it a total of 4 of these machines. The last time we were at DQ, we watched some these teens on the machines who had to have memorized these dance steps. Pretty cool to watch them flying through the steps with very creative techniques. Hopefully they all put that much effort into their schoolwork. :rotfl: Since there were no teens this time, DS got to try all four machines, afterwards, we hit a little nostalgia with Ms PacMan and Galaga, some pinball, and hoops junior version. We scoot out an hour later and head back to South Florida. :guilty:

In retrospect I learned:

I can handle DS for an entire weekend at WDW and we still can have blast. :goodvibes

I need a lot more time to explore everything there is to do at CSR. :hourglass

I thought I was being clever throwing the entire pumpkin bucket with meltable chocolate into the cooler for the few hours in the trunk while we were at the park and for the ride home. Too bad I didn’t see the small drain hole at the bottom of the pumpkin. Note to self, next year I need to bring a large zip-lock bag to throw the candy into for the cooler for the trip back. The boxes of Nerds which are my favorite treat out of the bunch were all ruined as were some of the other paper wrapped goodies.
