Hi all ! We are looking at a fall trip and trying to decide between early October and early December. We have never been to the Halloween party, and DD, who will be 4 by the time we go, has said she wants to go to "Mickey 's Halloween". We have a lot of fun halloween events near our home that we attend each year, but nothing like what Disney does I'm sure. The pros for an early october MNSSHP are that it will still be warm enough for a quick stop at the beach, a day trip to the blue hole, and swimming at the hotel. It would also be our first halloween party, and our first time to visit during food and wine, so that would be fun. I'm a bit worried about the crowds though, as I've read the Halloween parties have gotten out of hand with the crowding.

We have been in early December in the past and really enjoyed it. The Christmas party was great, DH in particular really enjoyed that one, and he is usually pretty much a grinch about Christmas. I found the weather a bit chilly for my taste, but as a lover of all things related to Christmas, I really enjoyed the decorations and the Osborne lights (which I know are no longer there but I'm hoping they will announce some sort of new light experience). Of course, the beach will not be an option during a December trip, and last time we went in December I found it to make the rest of December more hectic than normal.

So, which would you choose, October or December for the best experience, and why?

If possible, I think it's worthwhile for any Disney fan to experience both events.

Generally people prefer the party that aligns with the holiday they most enjoy.

For variety, I would reccomend the MNSSHP idea this year.

Definitely go to MNSSHP. You will love it. We are opposite you guys, our family is going to the Christmas party this year for the first time. Can't wait to see the parks and resorts all decked out. We are setting ourselves up for whatever weather we get. We've been to WDW in February in 90 degree weather, and another time in 50 degree and raining temps. So, we are ready. We're going the first week of December.

If you do a party day during an early October week day, I bet you'd be ok. We actually went last year in September to the first Halloween party they had and tickets were sold out......we had a blast. It didn't feel to crowded at all. We were able to do everything we wanted to do. Our boys trick or treated a little bit, the stations looked really crowded, but took no time to get through even in lines. So don't let any long lines stop you. The ride lines were really short which we loved. Definitely dress up. We just wore light weight easy costumes that were like clothes. We did some of the characters from Big Hero 6. So we could wear regular clothes. But you can look up ideas on Pinterest. It really made the night even more fun. Good luck deciding! The Halloween party is a must do!

I would go to MNSSHP. I've gone to both for about 2 years in a row now, and I can say that Not So Scary is superior. You can collect candy, SO MANY character meets, Jack w/ Sally, Boo to You, the Sanderson Sisters, Hallowishes, I could go on forever. And SO MANY CREATIVE COSTUMES, I once saw a family dressed as full on Mickey ice creams. And not like, cheap Halloween material Mickey ice creams, full on wonderful material HUGE Mickey ice cream costumes and it was hilarious.

The big crowds are more likely during the last 2 weeks of October. Go on a Sunday or Tuesday and you will more than likely be fine.
Go to Food and Wine during the week also. It can get crazy on weekends with crowds.
