My biggest tip:

Be very careful not to get stuck anywhere near the 8:00 parade! It is very easy to get "cornered" in the SW part of the park... This is the problem we had last year... It was probably 7:45 or so and we were stuck for 30min - 45min and then we couldn't find ANYWHERE to eat. It was awful because it was so crowded and there was litteraly no where to eat without waiting for an hour. So also be sure to plan ahead when it comes to dinner. My advise would be to be in the NE side of the park when parade #1 goes. Then get a good spot for Hallowishes (fireworks) / parade #2. And if at all possible eat before the party even starts - this way you're not spending valuable time eating. ...

I went looking for this post about where I might get trapped in a part of the park! I think we will eat early. If you can't cross the parade route I assume lines are still ok so you can ride the rides during this time, right?

Yes, basically if you look at a map of MK, the way the parade route is - you could very easily be "stuck" in Adventureland / west side of Main Street. You don't want to be on Main Street unless of course you are watching the parade so if this happens to you - you could ride rides in Adventureland. And yeah, if you're hungry - good luck down there. I don't believe El Pirata y el Perico Restaurante is open and The Crystal Palace will be absolutely swamped. The best advice I can give you though is to be somewhere on the north / northeast side of the park during this time. One of the hardest things is to find a good spot for Hallowishes - because the crowds from the first parade will most likely stick around for Hallowishes it'll likely be very crowded in front of the castle... I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. Since the parade / fireworks are the highlight of the night for me - I might just try to get a good spot for the parade / fireworks first thing (view the first parade) - and then use the second half of the night for the trick-or-treating, rides and other stuff...

I can't remember if this has been mentioned or not - but this tip might be helpful for some.

You do not need a Magic Kingdom or Park Hopper ticket for admission to this event. You can get in the Magic Kingdom as early as 4:00pm with JUST your Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party event ticket.

Whenever we go, we use the morning / early afternoon of the day of the MNSSHP as a break, this way we don't have to pay for a park ticket that day... It could potentially save you $100 plus...

Hopefully this makes sense...

Well, we went for our first experience with a party at Disney World. The boys (10 and 12) were happy, but my husband and I were not. We had an ADR at LTT for 4:10. That was fun, the characters and cast members were all decked out in costumes. After dinner we went and turned our tickets in for wristbands and orange candy bags, although we had brought some that closed for the boys.

We were not hearded into one area of the park at 6:00, although I had heard that that might happen. Even the CM that gave me the wristband told me that it could happen. The rain did put a damper on the evening and it was very buggy and HOT! Disney could not be held responsible for any of this, though. However, there was no free picture and the free face painting for one of my sons was much worse than the other. One child's paint turned out really, really well. The other was like if I did it myself, and I have no artistic talent at all. I can't even draw a stick figure! I really think they should have let this girl get a little more experience in before putting her out there to paint faces.

Now, for the candy... both my husband and I got strange looks when we went through the lines with our boys. The CM's would only give us one or two pieces each. The kids would get plenty, but the CM's would look at the adults weird. I know it wasn't only just us because the next night while waiting for our pager to go off at Boma for dinner, I talked with another couple who had the same experience at the party. I am of the opinion that since my husband and I paid almost $80 to attend this with our kids (which cost an additional $80), we should be able to go through the candy lines without a hassle.

All in all, the kids had fun but I would not do it again.

Tyjac, Thanks for posting about your experience at MNSSHP :thumbsup2 . I am sorry to hear you had some hassle about the candy, and the the face painting and weather weren't ideal. Sometimes it truly is the small things that can make or break an experience.

We have never been to MNSSHP before and are anxiously studying up. Thanks for being a trailblazer!

DH and I will have our bags open for candy too! I hope we don't get those strange looks. Just wondering, did any other DISers have the same experience?

I would think the candy is for all the ticket holders. Are the photo pass photographers all around or hard to find? I am concerned that Disney is not clearing the crowd out, if I have this problem after spending over $300.00 I am going to take pictures of the non paying people,, email the pictures to Disney and ask for a refund. I suggest others do the same. Email Disney and tell them so. We should not be fighting for space with those that have chosen to not pay for the night.

hi
we were there last friday, it rained a little but had stopped by the time of the firework show and the last parade, which were far the best i have seen. there were four of us adults, two 30 somethings and two sixty somethings! we had no trouble with candy we had bags full although did not actively seek this - we gave it to the mouse keeper for her children. they wrote us lovely little notes :) certainly did not see any none paying people - the park emptied out quite quickly after the announcement that the party had started. did'nt really bother with the photo as it is incorperated with the general photo pass now and don't think that whole thing is really good value. we had a great time and all the costumes were amazing! we certainly thought we had value for money

After 7 the non paying crowd was almost non-existant. The photo pass photographers were set up several places in the park. The ones I remember were at toontown fair and by the castle. I don't remember anywhere else but we might have walked past them without knowing.

The photopass that they used for that night was a different card than the regular photo card. You could get 50 percent off the pictures on that card if you purchased it the night of the party. We didn't stop in the camera shop that night because we planned on putting all of the pictures on our regular photopass card and getting the cd. I would think that the picture place would have been crowded but I don't know as we didn't go in. A few days later we went in and had the pictures from the Halloween party transferred to our regular photopass card without any problems.

Getting the candy is the last thing on my mind! I want to go for the atmosphere and the fun of it. Plus, how in the heck are you going to get all that candy home? I've read places where people have gotten like 5+ pounds of candy. You know that just adds to the weight of your luggage. And to ship it home is just another added expense. And I can't image eating it all before you left. My mom and I are making candy bags for the characters to sign and I may get a few pieces but i rather spend my time on rides and doing all the other fun stuff.

I went for the ambiance and the candy -- just stuck my bagful of goodies in my carry on for the airplane ride and away I went. No big deal.

And I agree with the poster that said, for the amount of money we spent, bring on the candy! Yum! :thumbsup2

I also like to keep the wrappers of some of the candy and put them in my scrapbook. They will add to my MNSSHP pages. :Pinkbounc

And of course I just had to share some of the candy with my neighbor kiddos who sat with my fur babies. They loved getting a goody bag filled with Mickey gifts and MNSSHP candy. They thought that was cool! :cheer2:

Wow -- I didn't think you were allowed to take food on the airplanes anymore in your carry on?

I went last year and previously I had read quite a few posts here saying "don't worry about the candy, we got 3 full bags!" or "If you want more at the end, you can fill up right outside of the turnstiles before you leave!"

That wasn't our experience at all! The CM gave us 1 or 2 pieces of candy at each station, sometimes after we had waited in a 5 min line. My 9 yr old niece was obsessed with the candy and we ended up spending most of the night just trying to get her a full bag. I promised her that she could "fill up" when we left ... but the CM only gave her about 5 pieces outside of the park. We did see people with bulging sacks of candy, but we just did not seem to luck out in this way.

My thought is that filling a bag with candy, like everything else in Disney and in life, involves some knowledge, a good plan and a lot of luck!

Needless to say, this year I promised her I would fill up a bag with whatever candy she wants at Walmart if she'll only relax and enjoy the party while we are there :)

I've got a question I hope I can get some help with! :) Can you only get the 50% off a photopass photo if you get it while your at MNSSHP or can you come home and order it from online? Also, where are the locations to get your photopass photos at MK? How exactly does this work? Last time, I just took the photopass card home and looked online at the photos. I didn't know there was a place at MK to get photos, CD, etc. I'd like some details please. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I was under the impression that the "free photo" has been removed from the list of perks this year. Can anyone confirm this? It is not listed on the official website or on AllEarsNet. Maggie

I was there on 9/15 and there is NO free photo, but you will get 50% off the photo. They had a photo station at the Haunted Mansion and also they had Cinderella's carriage over in Fantasyland where you could sit in the carriage. We didn't do this since we have teenage boys, but would have definately had the pic taken if I had young girls. We just skipped the photo completely since it wasn't free.

Yepper -- just no liquids. Now the rules may vary if I were travelling out of the country, but I was just travelling from Orlando to Dallas. Carried snack items both trips. Sure beat those 4 1/2 pretzels you get in the bag of "snacks" they hand out on the plane ride! :rotfl:
