MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

Lisa,
I like the grapes frozen, too. I just love more than 12 of them and would have a hard time stopping at that. I admire your control! We used to feed them to the dogs too because they would always sit there and beg for them. Had to stop that when we found out they were harmful to their kidneys. They sure did like them tho!
I've had the brie with apricot preserves, so the cranberry would probably taste good too. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know.

Carol

I'm enjoying reading you all and catching up this night/early morning. The house is clean and organized. Work is done. Mulch is spread in the garden. I think my back is broken and my feet are going to fall off. :rotfl:

I found out that three bags of mulch aren't going to be enough for my new sitting garden. :sad1: Oh well. It covered enough so you get the gist of it. When I bought mulch bags up north they where in compacted cubes and the mulch kept coming. These bags where lose and they didn't hold hardly anything. I wonder if I check the hardware store next time if they will have the ones where the mulch just keeps coming, lol.

Lisa, I'm glad your buying new pants. With your pajama's falling off I'm sure you need some! Maybe you could treat yourself to some new pj's too?

Pony, I can imagine it's a huge deal to have two days off in a row. Like a mini vacation! Maybe there is a regular shift in your future that gives you two days on a regular basis?

All the recipes sound wonderful. :) I'm not feeling all that adventurous right now though. I have found that a little cream cheese, a little sugar free jam and a spoon of benefiber for health purposes, makes a wonderful spread for my triscuts. I think that is close to the recipe that Pony mentioned. I just bring the serving of triscuts down to four instead of six to compensate for the cabs in the preserves.

Why is everyone having trouble with normal yogurt? Plain yogurt is 11 carbs for an eight ounce fluid cup. Are the fruited versions much higher maybe? I haven't checked them. I'm making my own now and adding a little vanilla syrup and some preserves. I have found the sugar free preserves very helpful for flavoring. I have eight ounce serving cups with screw on lids from bell, the same maker that makes the glass jars. I actually leave this concoction on my window sill for when my alarm goes off for my snack. With the syrup it's a liquid, and I drink it down and go right back to sleep. I think it's got to be that the commercial yogurts are higher in carbs. I'm going to look at them the next time I'm in the market. If they are bad I'm going to have you all buying yogurt makers before long! :cool1:

Well, considering it's 3am  I should try and get some sleep. My middle of the night alarm to eat is going to go off before I'm asleep if I don't. Good night everyone, sweet sleep and have peaceful dreams! :grouphug:

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone had a great night.

Robin, that is wonderful you're getting 2 days off in a row. I have been having a long weekend. Yesterday I worked for an hour, and today, the people I clean for don't need me. So, my paycheck will stink this week for sure. Every other Thursday I "double up" my houses. I clean for an 81 year old lady for about 3 hours then to my other house. Being Thanksgiving, I will clean the lady's house next week. I will probably do my office cleaning either tonight or maybe early on Thanksgiving, since they will be closed.

Barb, (I think it was you) I have watched the show What not to wear on occasion. I have no sense of style or color coordination what so ever. I wear mostly basic colors that I can match no problem LOL. I do have a few shirts that are bold colors (not hot pink, etc though LOL). The shirt I got a couple weeks ago is a nice pretty purple.

Ok, going to get some breakfast. Catch you all later between my cleaning and :laundy:

Good Morning Kathy! And of course anyone else who may be awake and just too sleepy to post!

Lisa and Carol - let me kow when you guys figure out how to do the cranberry sauce without the cranberries!! LOL, I am weird about textures, and I hate stuff with lumps and bumps....I like the taste of cranberries, but not the actual bumpy cranberries themselves!! I adore the brie, but need something smooth to go with it!

Nell - no future with 2 days off in a row Im afraid, although we are going through a total shift bidding process in January some time...I have not been with the company long enough to gather any type of seniority to throw into the mix of numbers they use to achieve your status in that bidding war! There are almost 80 agents on our sales floor and many have been there for the entire life of the department, which is 7 years...so they will of course be bidding for those shifts with earlier hours and two days off in a row. I actually dont mind the night hours at all, but would love to have at least the alternating saturdays shift, so I would only work one or two saturdays a month. Its nice to have that day off during the week for things like doctor appointments, etc, but to be able to have at least one full weekend a month off would be heaven! Sorry your mulch didnt go further...I hate when they bag stuff like that...look for it by the weight of the bag and not the size...that might help. My mom works part time at Lowes in the garden center, so she brings home the torn and ripped bags for a fraction of the regular price...I tell her to grab all the damaged bags of mulch, lime, fertilizer, etc. for our garden. Its amazing what a few bags can do to improve our strange red soil here. Every year the garden just gets a little better!

Kathy - sounds like you and I dress alike!! I stick to basics like black, khaki, sometimes a little olive or grey, and then add tops with a bit of color to match, but nothing outrageous...I just never know what will work, especially on a fluffy body!

Lisa - heading to Kohls.com to check out those jeans, I want some!! I would so LOVE to have us all chatting around my kitchen table! Or better yet, sitting out on my 50' long front porch looking out at the mountain view and the ponies grazing in the pasture....awwwww come on you guys, get packing!!

I would leave right now but I have to pick Chloe up at the airport tonight. Well, at least I hope I do. I started reminding her in late September that she should make her reservation for the shuttle because Thanksgiving is such a busy time of the year. She sent me a text message last week that the shuttle was full (go figure....). She sent me another text message several days ago that they added an extra shuttle. That is the good news. The bad news is that it leaves Tacoma at 2:00 and her flight is at 4:00. I think she is cutting it a little too close. She won't have any luggage to check in so keep your fingers crossed that there is no traffic. KIDS!

Praying for not only a safe trip home to you, but also that all shuttles, flights, etc are no hassle and she doesn't miss any of them LOL.
Be careful on your trip to the airport.

Good Morning MM Friends,

Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I started step 2 Monday and so far so good. I'm looking forward to trying some of the MM receipes for Thanksgiving. If by any chance, I don't get an opportunity to check back in ...have a wonderful MM day.

Sandra

Kate: Do you have any nails left?! Kids traveling is nervewracking. J-P has to take a bus, a train and then a plane, lol! He's much more of a pro now, so Chloe will learn. I can't wait to hear you have her safe at home!

Carol: You are on Step 2 so you could have 2 or 3 lc tortillas. Your leftover cranberry would make great appetizers with tortilla, cream cheese, then the cranberry. Roll up and chill for quite a while in plastic wrap. Slice in the party rounds. The colors would be pretty and it would taste amazing! You could also do one with a thin deli sliced turkey between the cream cheese and cranberry. I thought of this before I fell asleep, lol!

Nell: The commercial yogurts are high in carbs. We can't get the sugar free spreads out West. Should try to order some online, I guess. Do you have a rock yard nearby? We buy our compost loose. For I think 5 yards, they deliver for free. Sometimes we split it with a neighbor or two. If we want less, we go pick it up. They'll let us buy any amount. This last time we bought 3 yards total, but we went over there twice. Thankfully, we have a truck.

Does anyone want the recipe for low carb pie crust made with pecans for the pumpkin pie? The whole pie is like Diane's and is supposed to be 4 carbs per slice. I made it once before and it's good. I'll post it if anyone wants it. I know a lot of you are just making it crustless. Today, I am making my famous pumpkin cheesecake for the rest of the family. It gets better the second day anyway so I can get that done and in the fridge. I decided to make my turkey tomorrow so we're not heads down in the kitchen when our son finally walks through that door. I want to be able to visit instead of slicing and cleaning up. I can even make the gravy Wed. too since that's time consuming. Oh, and my soup. Yikes! I have a lot to do, lol! Maybe next year I'll finally have that double oven.

I ordered some of the Polaners from The Connoisseur Cafe & Market in SC. Couldn't take it anymore!

Barb - that stinks there are no more Lee jeans left at Kohls, I guess I will try the other sites Lisa mentioned...BTW, I want to go on What Not to Wear too!! We could request an MM version...your 6' no oobies, no butt, big waist self, and my 5'4", too much oobies and butt, muffin topped self!! :woohoo: Let them find something for US to wear!! Good luck to em!

:lmao: What Not To Wear, here we come! I actually found some Levi's for women in a tall when I was at Nordstrom Rack in Seattle when my daughter was here. Size 16 tall and I was hanging on to them for goal pants. Tried them on and they fit last week!! :cool1: Trouble was the hips were cut for someone with hips so they pooched out on the sides. Hubby does all the sewing in the house so he said he' d take off the pooches for me. I was very adament that the waist was fine, don't touch it. Well, he decided he wanted them tight from a guys perspective so he took them in from the top down  I couldn't get them on. He says they'll stretch, wear them awhile. I got them zipped, did a little squat to stretch them out and rrrripp ! Both sides where my gut is ripped next to the pockets  That's what he gets for not listening to me (again)

Lisa, yes please, add that crust recipe. I used to make one when doing Atkins but lost the recipe. Is the pie crust and pie filling (pumpkin) just 4 net carbs. That would be great. :woohoo:

Oh, Barb! That is so funny! I'm sorry to laugh!:rotfl:The Lees come in Tall and they are made out of a stretch denim that doesn't look like stretch pants, if you know what I mean. Congrats on fitting into the Norstrom jeans, albeit, briefly, LOL!

Yes, it says it's 4 net carbs altogether. I'll let Jocelyn add it to the thread if she will be so kind. Here it is:

Low Carb Praline Pumpkin Pie

2 tablespoons hot melted butter
½ cup finely chopped pecans
½ cup sugar substitute (recommended: Splenda)
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pie Filling:
1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin filling (no sugar added)
¾ cup sugar substitute (recommended: Splenda)
1 tablespoon and a dash more pumpkin pie spice
1 ¼ cups heavy cream
4 eggs

Praline Crust Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix all crust ingredients together in a bowl. While mixture is still warm from the butter, press evenly into bottom of a deep-dish pie pan and bake for about 5 minutes or until browned.

Pie Filling Preparation:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Place all filling ingredients in a bowl and mix well with a wire whip. Pour filling into pre-baked praline piecrust.

Bake pie at 425 degrees F for only 15 minutes and then turn the oven temperature down to 350 degrees F. Continue to bake for an additional 50 to 55 minutes.

Test for doneness: Stick a toothpick in the center; if it comes out clean, the pie is done. Cool and chill before serving. Enjoy!

Make it great by topping with real no-sugar whipped cream: With an electric mixer on high, whip 1 cup heavy whipping cream, ¼ cup sugar substitute and 1 teaspoon (no-sugar added brand) vanilla until stiff peaks form. (Be careful not to over whip).

Yield: 12 servings; 4 grams net carbs per serving
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Ease of Preparation: easy

Barb: This is the Jessica trouser jean. Dressier and voted the Best Jean of 2009. Kathy, it's midrise. Averages are pretty long. I have short legs and I wear my ankle boots with them for a longer line.

They are on sale for an even better price now at Lee.com

Thanks Lisa. Those are really nice looking. I need a 34" inseam and it looks like they stopped making the talls awhile ago. Darn.

OIC how they are getting away with that 4 carbs - it's 12 servings. I usually slice mine into 8, lol! So the whole pie is 48 carbs. That would be 6 carbs if you slice it into 8's.

YUM! Thank you! I'm going to make this for Christmas when we have family over.

I noticed that 12 serving bit. I think I'll slice into 8 too and deal with the 6 net carbs just fine :)
