MK very crowded tonight, but hey let's close at 11:00

11pm is early compared to previous years in June right? If so, I feel for the OP and am frustrated as well considering that we are considering going in early August this year and would love to have MK open until 12am like previous years. It's perhaps the ONLY benefit vs all of our other trips in late Sept.

I'm gonna go ahead and say this:
Threads like this are useless. They offer no planning, strategies or insight benefits.
Like others have said, there are extremes here. The ones that think everything Disney is doing is awful and not up to standards and the ones that say that Disney can do no wrong. And also there's a middle section that sees the flaws but also still enjoys the parks.
If you have a complain, email Disney, you are not gaining anything by posting here, your complain won't be heard by Disney and there's nothing any of us can do but agree or disagree.

I truly find this statement to be so bizarre and I couldn't let it go. Where is it that you got that 95% of all schools in the US are already out as of June 9th? I'm pretty sure all of the major school districts in the DC metro area are all still in session. We have our last day on Tuesday, June 14th and we are one of the first to finish. The largest school district in this region (and like the 12th largest in the US) has its last day on June 24th.

We leave for WDW on the 13th and hoping to get a little jump on the summer crowds. And just checking some of the largest school systems in the country, most are still in session (NYC, LA, Chicago). Just curious how you can paint such a broad brush. I would think if 95% of all school are already in summer, we'd be at a 9 crowd, not a 7.

Sorry - totally off topic but I just couldn't let it go. But I will now. LOL

Okay, the majority of Southern schools are out - which impacts crowds because everyone is in driving range to Disney (in some cases that range might be 12 hours, but still applicable because people want to save money on flying or *shudder* avoiding a two or three hour flight broken up by a layover in the Atlanta Airport). Obviously each school district sets their own schedule and snow days impact how much their summer breaks are pushed back, but the majority (if not all) in Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, etc. - you get where I'm going with this - are out and have been for weeks (in many, many cases - they've been out since the end of May). I'm not sure on Florida's school schedules, but I know - based on friends in the area - that many let out this week and last.

I admit, I don't know the west coast school schedules - being that, I would assume, the vast majority of people on that side of the country would plan to go to Disneyland, instead of Disney World, because it's more cost effective. But obviously there would be exceptions that prefer WDW, just as I'm sure there are exceptions in the eastern U.S. who prefer DLR.

This also doesn't include public colleges/universities - most of which try to have their graduations around the end of May and (as we know from these boards) many college graduates choose to go to Disney to celebrate that accomplishment.

But the fact remains: June and July are two of the busiest months of the year - reason being, that most people are on summer vacation and there is a heavy overlap on summer schedules for those months. This is why people in my tri-state area tend to go to Disney at the end of May - the crowds are a little lighter because not all schools are out until Memorial Day or sometime in June. This is also the reason that I know a lot of people choose to go in August - because many schools (especially in the states I mentioned) are already back in session, so in theory, it's not as crowded as June/July. For example - schools around me will be back in session the very beginning of August, making it appealing for the schools with the later schedules to go at that time.

24/7 MK. It's coming some day.

I'm looking forward to that day. Hopefully it happens in my lifetime :).

What kind of compensation did you get for complaining prior to a trip? I had a hard time getting compensated for something as egregious as body fluids on a bathroom wall when we checked in. Need some tips!

OP, I'm sorry you are unhappy with Disney.

Other than to notify planners to count on increased summer crowds and published park hours, I don't see tips and strategies for other guests.

I'm going to move this thread to the community subforum.

FWIW my WDW loving friends, Touring Plans predicted a MK level 8 yesterday but real numbers were a 10.

i'd sure as hell rather wait in line for 2.5 hours for 7DMT than sit behind this desk right now.
Exactly. Only I'd not wait in that line. I'd rather go watch Country Bear Jamboree. Still better than being at work.

Yep, and the most beloved Theme Park on Earth thinks the customer should be magically happy with a 11 pm closing.

With a crowd level of a 10, do you think you'd cover much more ground with an extra hour?

Just be happy you weren't in Universal Studio's. Their closing time was 8 pm all week. And Busch Gardens Tampa has been 6 pm.

Sounds about right.

Trust me kids, Disney heard my concerns loud and clear prior to our trip. They then compensated me very well for my clear and concise rationale for why IMO the value of a Disney trip has diminished.

My best.

So you complained prior to going, then were "compensated very well" (whatever that means) and still had to rant and throw a giant temper tantrum about the park closing at 11?

If the parks were sooo crowded how much would you have been able to do in that extra hour anyway? Sounds more like you like to hear yourself complain.

If you want less crowded parks, don't go in the summer. Look at a planning site and see when the less busy times of the year are, and go them. But to go when schools are getting out, and the crowd calendars show it will be busy, and then complain? Not what I would call well thought out.

Yep, some folks are more blessed than others.
