MK Dinner Advice

We have ADR at 5:00 for Kona on our MK day in February. Would you take a break from MK to go here for dinner or stay in the park? It's just me and the hubby, no kids.

If you are looking for a nice dining experience, I think it is worth the time. We find it nice to take a break and recharge.

Before their recent menu changes, Kona Cafe was a favorite place, but their new menu doesn't look good to me, so I'd probably stay in the park and have dinner at Skipper Canteen, Liberty Tree Tavern, or Crystal Palace.

I'm not a big fan of Kona. I think the food is mediocre and the restaurant is in need of a refurb. If you want to take a break, I would consider The Wave at CR, GF Cafe or O'hana instead. If you want to stay in the park, I would recommend Skipper Canteen.

It depends on the experience you are looking for. If you are park commandos and spend as much time in the parks as you can, the answer is no. It will take about 2 hours total (including transit time from park to Poly and back again).
If you are park veterans that want a change in pace, I say go for it. I've always had a great experience at Kona. Some people don't like the menu changes but there's still enough on the menu for us.
The restaurants in the resorts are always so much better than the parks (always an exception of course).
So depending on what type of Disney you want to do, should determine if you should or shouldn't leave the park.

Kona is not worth the effort to leave the park and return. I did not like the menu choices or atmosphere. I would recommend O'hana at the Polynesian. Not many suitable choices at MK for a nice relaxed dinner. Not a fan of Skipper's either.

We did California Grill last April and it was incredible. We actually took our little guys and they had a ball...great service...good food. If you stay late...perfect view of fireworks too.

Fireworks view was why we booked it (and originally we were staying there, but now we've moved to Poly). But then everyone told me you just HAVE to see the new fireworks show from the park so now I'm waivering.

We will be doing the same in April. But with a seven night stay we can probably do both. We are scheduled for dinner our last night at the California Grill so we can make it an early night back to the Grand Floridian and get ready for a flight the next morning.

Kona is going to be fairly loud. I think it depends on the experience you're hoping for.

I personally don't think any restaurant in the MK is all that good for dinner.

Along those lines, I think every resort in the MK area (via Monorail or boat) has at least one dining experience that's better than anything inside the MK.

At the Grand Floridian, we like Citricos (signature).

At the Polynesian, we like 'Ohana (family style).

At the Contemporary, we like Cali Grill (signature).

At Wilderness Lodge, we like Artist Point (signature).

At Ft. Wilderness, we like Hoop dee doo Revue (dinner show).

I'd rate any of those dining experiences well above anything inside the MK.

WE loved Kona last trip and thought it was the best dinner of our week. We tend to find buffet food to be not as good as sit down meals

I wouldn't leave the park for Kona. It isn't a restaurant that wows me. It's fine if you are staying at the Poly and want someplace besides the food court to eat but it isn't anyplace I would make a special trip for.
