MK Closing at 6 pm for MVMCP???

Problem is that there never seems to be enough revenue for the current management.
With profits down, one has to wonder if the ever increasing cost of passes, added to the ever expanding number of parties is finally showing up. Management seems to be penny wise, pound foolish.

Last year, I purchased a ticket from Parksavers. It was a hopper deal buy 4 days, get 7. Total price with tax was $389.

The best I could do this year is buy 4 days, get 5 hopper for $403 and that includes a $30 credit from AmEx for Under Cover Tourist. That is a substantial increase over one year.

MK dessert parties are $59 for the Tomorrow Land Terrace or $79 for the Plaza garden. At the same time, they gave AP holders 20% off 45 restaurants and 10% off most other Disney restaurants.

It's interesting what discounts they're giving. They're all over the map.

We have no discounts for our October trip.

The amount we are spending is ridiculous if we were to sit still and think about it, so we don't. :p It's not that we can't afford to go, it's that we can't afford to go often. Luckily we like to travel all over the place.

We won't come back again until after Star Wars is open, hopefully we can come during the 50th anniversary year. 2021 is our goal for the next Disney trip.

Years and years and years ago, MK would close completely to everyone, empty out, and then reopen later for MVMCP. There was no "early entry" at 4pm or whatever for party guests. You lined up and got in when the party started, and you walked into a beautifully empty Main Street with "snow" and Christmas music and lights. Even the line wasn't too annoying since CMs walked around handing out special MVMCP pins to everyone. It felt really special, like you really were at an exclusive after hours party.

Of course, they didn't sell nearly as many party tickets back then, either, so I guess that system wouldn't work as well now.

My first MVMCP was 1998 and I remember that. We stood outside and waited for the gates to open a few minutes before 7:00. We also got the free picture mailed to us.

That changed the year of 9/11 and the addition of security stations. It would be difficult to get all those people arriving at the same time through security, although the new setup would make it easier.

When cast members escort guests out, it seems like a pretty awkward situation for both parties. Out of curiosity, is there a standard spiel they use to do it? (I'm so glad I never had that job!)

We've been escorted out a couple of times. We call it "The Walk of Shame." LOL.

They are very nice about it. Of course maybe that's because we aren't trying to sneak around the park without a ticket. We just do late dining at BOG to make the most of our MK ticket that day. When leaving the restaurant they ask to see your wristbands. If you don't have any they ask you to wait for an escort to the exit. The first time it happened it was pretty funny. The escort held up a lit up "snowman" on a stick over her head so we could follow her in the crowd. Party guests were looking and pointing at us and trying to figure out who we were, and why we were getting "special" or VIP treatment. I think they expected a parade behind us. LOL

The second time it happened I don't remember the snowman, but we drove the guy crazy (in a fun way). I kept asking him questions about his kicking us out... like what he would do if we just ran. Then I asked what he would do if we all split up and ran different ways, so he couldn't catch all of us. (Meanwhile I had two little kids with me - around ages 8 and 10.) He seemed flustered at first. I think he might have been afraid I was serious. He seemed nervous, or uncomfortable, like he felt bad he was kicking us out. It's a loooong walk to walk with a stranger, LOL, so we teased him for a while. We also asked him if all he does is "bounce" people. He finally laughed some once he realized were were kidding with him, and he was really nice and told us his other jobs at Disney and was nice at the exit. Joking around made it less uncomfortable.

Those are some of our favorite Disney memories.

That's not the walk of shame. Sounds more like a VIP escort. ;)

The walk of shame is when you're sitting upstairs in the train station waiting for the Christmas parade (without having purchased a ticket) and a CM comes up one side and says they have to see everyone's wristbands and you run out the other side to the escort waiting to take you to the exit.

Oh, and the nice people standing behind you get some great chairs by the railing to sit on because of your hasty departure. :)

I'd imagine due to "funny convos" like this that they do have a protocol. Hence why they're looking at closing the park at 6.

Do ADR's still go past 6 on party nights? If not, then I'm guessing this is why.

FWIW, I don't find it funny that you were trying to joke with a CM on what they'd do if you ran... or had everybody split and run. You said he seemed uncomfortable. Well, yeah, I would too if it were my job to do what he did and I had people chirping at me about running off.

Maybe it didn't come across well in my post, but it was all very lighthearted. He just seemed shy, and nice, like he felt uncomfortable kicking us out. My tone was playful, but I just think it got him wondering what he would do if someone did run.

There was nothing malicious about it. I'm not a bully. And yes, I "joked" with him. He thought we were great by the time we got to the exit. He told us what ride to find him working at if we came back to the park.

Some people don't mind playful teasing. Apparently you do. Which is fine.

The park is "closing" at 6pm, but we will be sitting in Be Our Guest dining at that time. The night we don't do MVMCP, we will do our very much anticipated Walk of Shame.

Ha! That's more like the Run of Shame.

He was probably happy by the time you all reached the exit because you were out the door at that point.

Like I said, I'm interested if the dining ressies are a portion of the reason they're trialing closing the park at 6. That way they can get the late diners out before the party starts.

I would be too. It's just smart touring without cheating anyone.

Yeah, it was. And it was great fun to watch.

I doubt it. Diners are easy to keep track of. I think it's more about the people trying to lay low inside the park and sneak out around parade time (see my store about the ones who hid upstairs at the train station).

We had a family on Main St. for a MNSSHP in 2014 that got ousted. We got to Main St. early for the 1st parade. We were sitting on the curb (sorta, until it started raining) and chatting with another couple that we discovered was from our area. This family comes up behind us and because they had 2 little kids and a stroller, they thought they were just going to ram up to the curb. Well, the girl in the other couple looked at them and said something along the lines of: Ma'am, we've all been waiting here for over an hour. We're not moving. The lady got all offended by this and started speaking loudly and trying to shame us for being awful people, yet, 6 feet to our right, there was room. They eventually found this space and got settled. THEN... CM's came down through on their sweep. Yeah, let's just say that mom wasn't thrilled when she got told they had to leave because they didn't have party tickets nor wristbands for said party ticket. We all got a good laugh out of it, but sadly shook our heads because that's the way society is now.
