Miyuki The Candy Lady

does a thread on miyuki really need to turn into a tired old argument that has so many other venues on here?

getting back on topic... (i don't have anything bad to say about her)

my sister and i, i want to say almost 9 years ago?, were watching miyuki and she asked my sister what she wanted. my sister said, "i want an octopus!" so miyuki made her an octopus (which i don't have any pictures of, but if i find one i'll post it). we had a good laugh about why on earth would my sister ask for an octopus and it actually started a tradition between my sister and i. we give each other octopi for different occasions. i actually ended up getting a tattoo of pearl from finding nemo because i now love octopi.

the thing only lasted 3 days at most. it basically melted to a puddle on our way to vero beach.

That's so sweet that it started a sister tradition. I love stories like that about the random things that bond family members!:hippie:

We loved watching Miyuki. She made my son a dinosaur. He stood near the front watching quietly (unusual for him) while she made several animals then she asked him what he wanted. I stood in the back so other kids could see.

I've heard about this many times on the boards, yet never seen what they actually looked like. Very interesting, but sounds like something I'd actually be more thankful to have a good spot to watch the creation, rather than receive & actually have to take care of.

Thanks for the great photos everyone! I think the flamingos are the most beautiful, but the crane sounds interesting, too.

I've never seen her either but I will be looking for her in August. I'd love to see her create them - they really are beautiful.

Heres mine

I have a cockatoo as well and when I saw one of the candy pictures, I was wondering how peanut would react to the candy bird.

I have never seen the Candy lady, but we will be keeping an eye out for her next trip.

Here is the back of the typical "Epcot Times Guide and New Information" flyer available as you enter the park. It does vary as to the park hours and performers show times.pirate:

Remember to get a picture of any creatures that are still in existence and post them so we can collect a ZOO.

Our Squid has now passed into memory!:sad1:
Just last week the poor creature showed signs of age and the next day had to be discarded due to slumping. Well there you have the answer to the Question of "How long do they last?".;)

Farewell:love: .

I first noticed her during my 2004 trip. It was one of the last days and I really liked how she made the candy. The next day I went back to see her and to hopefully get a candy but I didn't. Then in my 2005 trip I made sure I got there early and she picked me to get a candy. I chose a unicorn. It was very pretty. And after you get it she has you hold it infront of a fan to help it dry a little and I wasn't really paying attention to my candy and it got so close to the fan that the leg got chopped off. But she said it was okay and fixed it for me. I was trying to keep it nice so that I could take it home but then latter I placed it on the floor to free up my hand and the horn broke off. So I decided that I should eat it. I don't really remember how it tastes. I love going to see her show. It's very cool how she makes them.

I thought I was going to be able to tell you that ours has lasted since our May 2006 trip. I just went to check them and they were sorta melted. We still have one from our Nov 2006 trip that looks great. We love the candy lady, she gives a great show. While waiting for my family as they shop in Japan I have turned many people on to the candy lady.

We have seen her 2 times and both times DD has been lucky to get a creation (pink bird both times, definetly no imagination, lol).

My favorite was the cangaroo with the baby cangaroo at the front that she made for another guest. Too bad I don´t have a picture.

As mentioned above, she usually picks people who are not pushy and who arrived first. Last time we got there as she was finishing her presentation, and the next one was in 20 minutes, so dd and I sat on the floor to wait for next show, and after putting everything away she told us that she would be back shortly and asked DD to think about what she would like then.

We were there with friends and all of us were watching, DD got her pink bird (flamingo), one friend´s son got a tiger and when the lady saw the other friend´s daughter who looked crestfallen because she didn´t get anything, but never asked, she said that she would make an extra one for her. That was really sweet of her.

DD has eaten the candy both times and has never complained about the flavor.

We plan on watching her again in september, it is truly amazing how she turns the white gobble of hot candy into such beautiful things.

About 15 years ago there was a man at the Japan pavillion who made sugar candy. he sort of danced around as he did it. My sister and I were there with my DS5 (at the time), and my son was entranced. He stood absolutely still and watched every move the man made. The man started to play with Casey a little. He would dance up to him and dab a little flour on his cheek, then move away. He did this several times, and also smiled and bowed to him. Casey couldn't take his eyes off. The crowd was laughing along with us because of their interaction. At the end, he handed the dragon to Casey - a big surprise! We kept it for a while, but it eventually broke. I will never forget how Casey was so fascinated by the creation of something so ephemeral and beautiful.

My husband and I discovered her show completely by accident this past Wednesday! We were completely delighted and captivated by her artistry and got to see her create a unicorn, (I saw other unicorns pictured here already so I won't) and a porcupine. She was very sweet and smiled at us a few times and posed a bit so I could take pictures (I was trying not to be disruptive and setting off a flash in her eyes!) ... totally loved the show. So unique and fascinating!

I really enjoy Miyuki's demonstration. However, there are lots of rude people that always want something for nothing. I would stand up front just to see it, and rude people will still arrive after me, try to push their way in front of me, and get angry and curse when their child isn't given one. Some people think their kid is the only kid on earth. Those people need a reality check.

It's a shame that people get so carried away that they would push others out of the way just to get something they want -- or think they do momentarily. Miyuki is one of the many WS things we're noting to be sure to catch on our next visit, however I think observing the creation is the treat we're hoping for. Logistically, transporting the candy doesn't seem to be something we'd enjoy when we're trying to enjoy Disney -- especially as we now must be summer travellers :scared: !
