Miyuki The Candy Lady

I did post that Miyuki said to eat them, and DD#1 happily complied (she liked it) but DD#2 wanted to save hers. She still has it. It's been...um...3 1/2 years (gosh, how'd THAT happen??) and no, it doesn't look great now...but it's recognizable. LOL

Just a quick question about the candy figures. Are they able to be displayed for a long time or do they go bad on their own after say a few months. I hope to let the one my DD recieved to stay displayed for a long time and just was wondering.

They are very fragile. And they melt!! We had a unicorn once that I bought a huge coffee mug to put it in, then in a big box. It made it home minus it's horn. Then, we put it on display and it just melted into a blue unicorn puddle.
We got the monkey home but he didn't fare much better...big brown blob after a month of so.

My niece still has her pig from last May. I don't know how we managed it, but we got it home in one piece and she still has it on a shelf in her room. Her mom stuck it in some green flower foam stuff and then put it in a small flower pot.

Heres mine

Thanks for posting this thread. I can't wait to see Miyuki in action - the creations everyone has shared here are awesome. None of us are really into eating that type of candy, we're all hardcore chocoholics but I would love to see her creating her art.
I am assuming there is a schedule posted somewhere? How would you go about finding what days and times she's performing?

Count us as another family with a bad experience here.

We didn't even know about her until our last trip Fall of (04) we decided to check her out and DD was enthralled.

I saw several adults literally snatch candy away for their kids from kids who had waited their turn, and been asked what they wanted by the lady herself.

We waited through 2 shows, and when she asked my DD what she would like she said "purple unicorn" well soon as it was done, candy lady turns and hands it to a different child! My daughter was so disappointed.

DD asked politely if another could be made and was told very abruptly "I already did that one!" she did end up getting another animal, i don't remember what it was.

but I saw one woman literally take an entire show's worth of candy for kids in her party without anyone stopping her. Every time it was done and the candy chick held it up, this woman snatched it and asked for another animal.

Finally, candy lady said "Show is over" and the woman actually complained that she had a nephew who didn't get one!

If I were going to take my child to see the show, I would tell them up front that only two or three people per show get an item and to plan to watch only for entertainment.

My husband and I both agreed we will steer clear of the candy diva in future- the greed of the grown ups, and some of the kids, is just bad.

When something is free, everybody wants it. I think they should put her in a little booth, then sell the proceeds of her shows instead of continuing the show as it is. She's an artist, she should be treated and showcased accordingly. JMHO.

We love the Candy Lady and make it a must for every trip we go to. I tell my kids ahead of time they may not get picked to wait to see if you do but you will not be rude or cry if you don't get picked. A couple years ago there were not very many people to see her it was cold and rainy. She gave candy to each of my kids. My son then 8 got a Eagle and my daughter then 4 got a giraffe. They were really cool. We saved them after taking a picture of them but they ended up a big goo mess in the bag. We went this past January and when the candy lady came out to the big crowd she said one candy per family and she will only pick about 4 kids and then that would be all. There was a really loud man that wanted one for his kid that made it not enjoyable but it was fine. My DD got a really cute flamingo and then watched her make some for the other kids. My son was disappointed but so is the luck. I just merly said what the candy lady said and said that there were kids who can't go to WDW and here we are so to make the best of it. We then sat down and ate it. It was kind of tasteless and the paint that she put on there was bitter. We love her and hope to see her again on our next trip!!

I just wanted to say I have seen the Miyuki 3 times now and she was always very nice and funny except for the last time when a lady yelled out that she wanted a giraffe while Miyuki was explaining what she does and I could tell Miyuki didn't appreciate being interrupted. Other than that though, I guess I've been lucky to see her show, with nice, polite groups.

I kinda felt like I was the start of Miyuki getting a bad rap  which wasn't my intention. She is very talented and makes amazing creations. I think her show has gotten more popular though and she can't accomodate everyone now.

We have only seen her once, on our way to Dinner at LeCellier. We stopped because we saw a big crowd. Boy, was she awesome.:thumbsup2 Definitely worth watching, even if you don't get a candy animal. DD picked a Panda.

She was amazing!!! I can't wait to see her again.:goodvibes

We love Miyuki. She made candy for both of my boys, there weren't many people there. When my youngest sons broke she took it after the show to what she called the break room and fixed it while we shopped. It is one of our must do's and my kids know not to expect a candy animal, it's a special treat.

I was totally impressed with the "candy lady" ... we had read the sign which told you when she would be back.. myself DH & my two kids who were 10 and 12 at the time came back 20 minutes before she was scheduled to be making the candy.

around 5 minutes before she came on, many families stood around us... many many people pushed their kids in front of ours so they would be up front.

well,,,when the candy lady came out...the first thing she did was point to both my DS &DD and asked them what their preference was of what candy animal they wanted.

I could not believe this!!! there were so many 5, 6, 7 yr olds in front of my kids but apparently someone was keeping control of who was actually there first.

I was so totally impressed.....

We gave her a $20 tip just for being so nice

My daughter got one last December. Miyuki said several times during her demonstration that many people were waiting so only one per family.

I sure wish I had taken more pictures of her making these animals.:confused3 Luckey for me all you other DIS folks have come through and gotten good ones to share.popcorn:: If there are any more just post them here.

Wow, interesting lady and creations! Will try and see this but certainly not encourage my child, so he doesn't expect anything.

Learn something new each time I am on the boards! Thanks for the post!

I saw the CandyLady last week and really enjoyed it! She was very funny and would only ask kids what they would like. Now, several adults would ask but she would only ask kids. She told us that she learned by her grandfather and he learned by his father. She has a daughter but she is blind and she doesn't like working with the hot candy. She's hopeing that she will change her mind when she is older. I think she said that her daughter is 10.

here's a bunch i took yesterday. despite both kids getting one and miyuki being as gracious as i've always seen her been, i'm still a fan

now, did i introduce some factors that may have influenced miyuki's decisions? perhaps ;) but it's still miyuki's choice. and rule #1 is we respect miyuki and her art first and foremost. anything beyond that is an unexpected treat.

We saw the candy lady in January. She was wonderful and her show was fun. I was a little disappointed with some of the adults though. I guess you need to be close in order to get chosen, but I don't understand keeping little kids from trying to see. My DGD is a little thing and she was trying to see the show. Two people kept squeezing her out, so my Son IL picked her up. My DH walked away because it was so clear that they were big and she was small so they won in a pushing match. She is too polite to be pushy anyway. I just kept helping children closer. DD got a monkey that she still has displayed in a bud vase.
