When visiting the World Showcase take time to catch the Miyuki –pronounced (My-you-kee) candy making demonstration. Catch her outside near the Mitsukoshi Department Store’s front entrance. Not many people will be able to get these candy creations but the process she has perfected for quickly creating lovely creatures is simply a wonder. She takes very hot hard candy and asks a child what kind of animal is wanted. Then in just minutes the color and shape appears and a new creation is presented to the lucky child/adult. I hope many other DIS members can post the zoo of creatures that she can create. I will start with the one my DD received.:woohoo:

That is amazing, I had no idea that someone did that. I will definitely be looking into this for our Dec. trip.

We saw her in 2005 and it was only because our "Pal Mickey" told us that there was someone making candy in Japan...and there she was just a few feet away.

I've seen her twice and she was awesome!

My nieces got a pig and a koala bear, but she makes the most amazing dragons and unicorns. Fascinating to watch. --- DON'T interrupt her though! She does NOT like that! One lady shouted out "I want a giraffe!" and Miyuki gave her the eye and said "I decide!"

Arrive 10-15 minutes before her show and just stand at her cart so you get a good spot upfront.

Does she sell these candies or are they only available during her show?

I have never seen the candies available anywhere except at her show.:sad1: Chances are you just have to be one of the lucky ones that get given one of these creations.:thumbsup2

She is quite talented. We were a bit diappointed though cause DD stood through 4 of her "performances" and she totally ignored DD except to criticze her and tell her, "its time to clap" when DD put her hand up for the million time trying to get her attention. I had told her to put her hand up and I think Miyuki heard me. Finally I just told DD lets go she has no intentions of acknowledging you.

we were there last week celebrating our 30th anniversary, and she gave us a pink flamingo like the one featured in the above post. it was her last performance of the day and not many people were around. she made a dragon and panda bear also. her creations are amazing. everyone should try to see her work.

Same thing here. My DD had been waiting patiently up front through several of the demonstrations, but Miyuki kept ignoring her. Finally Miyuki looked right at my daughter while asking if anyone else had a request, and DD asked for a flamingo. The dragon (I mean candy) lady then looked over the crowd and said she needed to help other people. It was so obviously rude, and my daughter was crestfallen ... so I told DD that it was time for us to leave.

Here are DDs last spring with the pink flamingo that she made for older DD (the one without the mickey sorcerer ears). IN answer to someones question, no, she does not make them for sale, she chooses who she makes one for and asks what design they would like. We just got rid of ours not too long ago, it was starting to stick to everything due to the humidity.

I stood at three of her shows last December (right in front) trying to get either a dragon or a flamingo for Dh's birthday and each time she picked a a little kid next to me. (I'm only 5 foot so I wasn't blocking anyone's view and I was about as tall as the kids she kept picking). It really ticked me off. Finally at the 3rd show she says "last one" and I tried desperately to have her pick me, she picks the mom with the baby and asks what the baby would want. The baby, who couldn't be more than 6 months old was sleeping!

She does fascinating things, but I'll probably skip her show next time we're down there.

:confused3

Our daughters requested a tiger..pretty cute! They were the last ones picked and were right up front. We didnt think she would pick them ever

Wow....Miyuki is usually very good about who she picks. She does tend to ignore those pushy kids...we had one teenager who sat in her little sister's stroller that the parents had left, pushed up against the stand. When Miyuki came out, she had them pull the stroller back since it was under the rope!! And she completely ignored that girl. Her parents kept saying, pretty loudly, that they couldn't understand why their dd wasn't chosen since she had obviously been waiting the longest. Miyuki is very observant. And no, I am not saying that any of your kids were 'misbehaving'....it's just an observation I have made after about 8 times at her 'show'. My dd has gotten two candy creations so far. I've told her no more...she can watch but she may not have another one. We get them home and they just melt anyway. We do have the pieces of her unicorn in the freezer..heaven help me if I ever throw it away.
Sure do wish you guys had had better experiences with it though.

I am sure there are a lot of people. Whenever we go to something like that, I warn my kids that their chances of being picked are not good, so not to expect it. That way it is a pleasant surprise if they do get picked. I did watch a demonstration once, but it was toward the end, so I did not even attempt to get one.

i really didn't want to get involved in this, but isn't it enough to teach appreciation of her work and NOT expect something from it?

i watch people build intricate sand castles, but i don't expect to come home with one. nor do i expect it from people carving blocks of ice. i don't win the lottery everytime i play either. that's life.

it might be a hard lesson to learn, but nobody is really entitled to anything in this life. as far as miyuki goes, if you watch her several times a day and do everything to get her attention, you're not alone. there are families who show up 15 minutes before, separate all over the cart and make a 'living' out of getting free candy.

so in that respect, you pay for the misdeeds of others. but maybe it's a good lesson learned for the kids. she could toss everything she makes into the trash, it wouldn't make her art less worthy of appreciation.

besides, the more people who decide to boycott her, the more candy for me.

Wow...I was sorry to read that people had less-than-magical experiences :(

My kids loved Miyuki. We did notice she only picked children that were right up front. DD#1 got picked but DD#2 didn't (she was tired and DH was holding her in the back).

We went back for a later show, got there early to get a place up front, and told DD she would have to stand if she wanted a chance to get picked. Which she did :goodvibes (but we warned her that she still might NOT be chosen)

DD#1 got a blue horse

and DD#2 got a purple unicorn.

She said not to save them, to eat them. They are candy, after all :)

We really enjoyed her show.

My 2 DS's tried to eat their scorpion & eagle, but they said they tasted awful! :crazy2: Sure did look good though, and she's very entertaining to watch!

Just a quick question about the candy figures. Are they able to be displayed for a long time or do they go bad on their own after say a few months. I hope to let the one my DD recieved to stay displayed for a long time and just was wondering.

they last, but they can be fragile. i had a tiger myself and after a while, the paws starting snapping off.

it's not very good as candy if you ask me. definitely not what you'd be used to. i think it's rice based, but not 100%.
