I only KNOW one lawyer. And I love the snot out of her!!!!!!!!
I know several nurses and I love all of them too.
I don't know any architects.
I know two engineers, one male, one female and LOVE them........and they are not at all nerdy..........great senses of humor and very cool.
I know LOTS of teachers and LOTS of men and LOTS of women.........so with them, some I love, some I like, some I just can't stand.
I don't know any sprinkler systems but I sure don't like the one that attacked my Gothic Rose.
Hi JT!
I know a few nurses - and all of them, to a person, are great to be around.
I know LOTS of architects (well, duh) - most are good people, but there are some that are haughty and/or hard to get along with (egotistical). Sometimes that attitude comes with the talent to back up the attitude, sometimes not. These are the types that give the rest a bad name, in my opinion.
I know LOTS of engineers - most are good people, and some are geeky types (for the record, I veer sharply toward the geeky type too). Some are both - in my opinion, so the term 'geeky' doesn't necessarily have the negative connotations it might have for other, more urbane folks. I'm not an artsy-fartsy architect-type, and so my designs tend toward the functional, and the cheaper/easy-to-build/maintain - so I identify strongly with the engineering mindset. We have one local engineer here who's originally from the Louisiana area (he's been here 15+ years) - by his own admission he's as geeky as the day is long - but dayum, can he make a mean batch of jambalaya!!!
I know lots of teachers / school administrator-types - and most are good people too.
I know lots of lawyers too - most are good people, but some are too full of themselves, in my opinion. I don't know enough about the profession or some of the niches within the profession to have a real opinion about if that personality type is necessary. Anyway, the blowhard-types are the types I mentally picture in the 'lawyer' jokes.
I know lots of accountant / finance-types - heck, I'm married to one. Most are good people, but some can combine the worst personality traits of engineers & lawyers... Those are the ones who are never invited to parties.
I'm sure somewhere there's a "sanitation engineer" (PC term for a garbage man) who's full of himself too.
My point is there's all kinds of people in all kinds of careers.
I'm definitely not a gregarious person. I'm usually reserved and I tend to not follow any given trend. I'm usually not shy about pointing out 'sheep-ple' tendencies in other people, so I'm somewhat of a sarcastic smart-aleck. I'm too geeky to be considered really 'cool' - so sometimes when we throw a concert-night party here at our office I do feel sooooo out of my league / comfort zone. I'm sure there's the ultra-chic, trendy-types in attendance at our parties who are going "Who's that opinionated geek over there in the corner? How'd HE get in here?" Easy to answer - I own part of the place. Y'all are drinking some of MY beer. No, I don't want to hear about your brand-spankin'-new ultra-greenie-weenie hybrid Lexus SUV (...that STILL gets worse gas mileage than my V8-powered apparent "gas-guzzler"). Or how you've got your kid enrolled in "the" hoighty-toighty private school (And how many drug confiscations were there last month? Oh really?). Now scoot over and shut up - let me hear the band. Maybe I don't actually SAY that out loud, but I do think it.
P.S.
I know lots of fried chicken - they're all good people. To paraphrase Will Rogers - "I never met a fried chicken breast I didn't like".
