Wondering if people are still getting sick on mission space? Or has disney toned down the ride a little? Know nephew will want to ride, and don't want him sick all day.

Thanks, mky

my understanding is that they did not tone it down, but rather posted more warnings... i've been on it a few times and have never witnessed anyone getting sick... and i had little kids w/me and they were fine! :)

i rode it the year it came out and i was fine with the whole motion sickness (and i get car sick ) the only problem was that my stomach hurt for like 15 minutes after...last year when my brother and dad rode it my dad said that they shortened it i guess becuase of a lot of people thought it was too long for being sick or scared..but i do think that he said they shortened it just a little.

We were there in January of 05' then again this past January. Myself and DD
have been on this ride more than 6 times and no it doesnt seem to be shortened at all. We love it !! :woohoo:

I have seen this ride on the web pages, can someone please describe to me exactly what this ride does. I mean do you go straight up and become weightless or what. I don't want to seem dumb but I would like to atleast know what it does before I jump on it. Thanks

The ride operates on the same theory as those centrifuge rides at carnivals. You do spin in a circle, but at no time fo you flip or roll, it is just on a flat axis. Only when the ride first starts up can you tell that you are actually moving around, not up, but it last just a very split second and then it does feel like you are blasting into orbit.

I (32) get VIOLENTLY motion sick very easily, but had no problem with Mission: Space. The key is to follow the instructions to the letter: lock your eyes on your monitor and do NOT let them leave it. The video cues will tell your body that what you are really experiencing is in fact a fast acceleration, since you have nothing else to look at that tells you you are spinning.

Related note, my father (55) did get very sick riding on this ride, but he said as soon as it started, he tried to lower his head. he was ruined for the rest of the day apparently.

I never get sick on ANYTHING, and got totally socked by Mission:Space. First off, I felt like I couldn't breathe during take-off. Then I was just funky-vertigo-y, like I was going to pass out. They have benches for people who get sick to lie down on. I was so embarrassed, but I had to lie there. After about 20 minutes I got up, but was still kind of shaky. An hour or two, I was fine. (And I followed all the rules.)

I think it is really smart of you to find out what it is about before riding. I didn't know how it worked until I was lying on the bench and the staff people explained how the ride worked and that people get better fast. But, you know, I still would have ridden it, because I never had problems, so...

Got dragged back on about 6 months later, and did fine.

I think it is a really GREAT ride if you don't get sick, which most people don't.

Thanks so much for the input. I never got sick until a couple of years ago I had inner ear infection and I have to be careful now.

i went to dinsey in jan and i was talking to a cash ringer-uper and she said they toned it down like 50% bc of all the throw up in the park and another person said the same thing.

A tip that actually comes straight from NASA according to one of the guidebooks . . . eat something light about two hours before going on the ride. The sugars in the food (I think they were implying something like a piece of fruit, not "candy" sugars) will help keep you from getting sick, and it's said that riding on a dead empty stomach is not actually the best idea for that reason. I think we all know that riding on a full stomach isn't too bright either. :)

I didn't mean to imply "this guarantees you won't get sick" in my above post, but I know that it did help me, who is known to get sick on anything that spins at all. Everyone is different.

Totally agree with the poster who said to focus on the screen and don't look around. Thankfully, my husband and I were riding with a man and his son who had been on it numerous times. Had they not given us this tip, I probably would have gotten sick.

There are a ton of warnings posted while waiting in line and then again during the pre-ride video. When I got in the 'capsule' and saw the barf bags, I knew they were serious about the possibility!

Once you get through take off (I had to close my eyes a few time to relax myself), it is really neat! Very diffucult to explain though!

I did feel a little sick in the begining of the ride but after take off I was fine. Just lock your eyes on the screen and nothing else. Don't close your eyes or put your head down.
Even though I came close to throwing up for a second I still say it is something you have to experience. It is really cool!

I rode this ride during soft openings and again last year. It's the same. If they tone it down the effects would not be the same. You can only get the sensations of liftoff with a certain amount of G's.

A huge group of us rode it on our last trip and we were all fine (kids included). I have to admit I had second thoughts though with all of the WARNING signs posted before you get on, that got my daughter and I more worried than anything! My mom and aunt (both in their 50's) said their stomachs felt a bit weird for awhile after riding but that's all! :)

I've been on mission space about a dozen times with no ill effects. Put me on a roller coaster and I get very very sick (the drop on Spash Mountain is about all I can handle)

I've looked around the cabin during the "flight" with no problem. I've even been on the ride after a few adult beverages. No problem.

I think this is a ride that violently affects some people and I don't think you can predict before hand how you will react.

I've never had a feeling of spinning on the ride.

Give it a try but be prepared to feel (very) sick afterwards if it affects you. It made my wife sick for about two hours. She sat on the floor for about 15 minutes after the ride until she was able to move.

i remember reading they toned it down right when it opened. i liked it but motion sickness prone husband ( who was sure he would be fine) was sick all morning after riding and following all instructions and now refuses to ride ever again. i'd use bonine or something as it's not worth being sick all day if you are prone to m.s. i have neurological problems though and sometimes haveproblems not walking like i am drunk/ out of balance after some rides( :rotfl2:this smilie is me after some rides ) but it didn't affect me at all so go figure..
