25 May 2003: Update

All things being well, Imagineering are set to hand over Mission Space to park operations within the next 2 weeks. This is likely to be the day of the first preview for WDI crews and their families. Following the WDI party, the attractions opening date is then in the hands of park management/operations on when they wish to begin soft openings for the public. Baring any problems, it looks as though Space will be taking guests for a spin as soon as mid-late June 2003.

I would also add that people who have ridden this so far are giving it a major thumbs up. Mission Space has become the number 1 ride for them anywhere, period. You are not going to want to miss this ride!!!

REMEMBER, THIS INFORMATION IS NOT OFFICIALLY RELEASED INFO, AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH. DO NOT PLAN A VACATION AROUND THIS RUMOR. THE OFFICIAL SOFT OPENING DATE REMAINS AUGUST 15 2003.

For the update can't wait to do this attraction I've heard its going to be one of the best in the world.:)

Anyone know if there will be height restrictions for this ride? Also, anyone have any idea of the scare factor for kids?

There will be a height restriction- not sure what it is, I think 44 inches. I have talked to people who have ridden and basically- what makes it 'scary' is that, as you rocket into outerspace, you feel real g-forces (up to 2.5, similar to a decent sized coaster drop). This is done because you are in a spinning centrifuge. SInce the video screen is in front of you, you do not feel a spinning motion circular motion, only an acceleration forward. And no, they did not feel sick on it. In fact, they said it was the best ride even made!

What great news! I'm hoping that it will work out like you've said. We leave Disney on August 10th, so we would just miss the soft opening. It would be great if it opened ahead of schedule!

Did anyone happen to mention about size restrictions? Unlike some of the rides at the local Six Flags park, Rock n' Rollercoaster is great about fitting a variety of sizes of people... just hoping Mission Space continues the tradition.

Thanks in advance!

I might have to chicken out on this one. ;) I'll send my dh first and let him check it out. I know my girls are ready for it to open.

Can't wait for it to open. Hopefully all will be ready when DS and I will be there in Sept./Oct. :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I hope this is true, I will be ther just before the official opening.

We'll be there the first week of July. DH will be absolutely thrilled if the ride is available when we are there. I on the other hand.....
