what exactly has people getting sick on this ride?
spinning? is it spinning while going up and down? (There's a ride like this at Canobie in NH)
is it more spinning than tea cups?
or is it something else?

The ride does spin, but you don't see it spinning. Picture sitting on a carousel, but you're facing the middle of the ride. I think the thing that has most people getting sick is that your body is moving differently than your eyes tell you it is. That is why they tell you to keep your head perfectly still, don't look left or right, and don't try to lift up your head or close your eyes. If you follow these instructions you should be okay.

Because your eyes cannot see the movement (spinning), your body registers it as pressure, either rising or falling (take-off and landing). There is a very powerful sensation of gravity either pressing down on you or making you feel somewhat weightless (I found the weightlessness more intense), but if you keep your head and eyes forward you will not have a sensation of spinning.

If you are concerned about it take a dose of Low Drowsy Dramamine or similar product. I took a dose even though I am not prone to motion sickness because I didn't want to take a chance. I felt terrific while my partner had some unpleasant 'discomfort' for a while afterwards. He didn't get sick but he did look slightly green. ;)

Enjoy! It's a terrific attraction, worth doing.

Flip a coin, you'll either come up in the category (regardless of whether you're a thrill junkie or get sick on tea cups) of get sick and hate it or thinking "people get sick on THAT?" and love it.

I'm in the later category and haven't ever seen anyone get sick on it (thank goodness). Personally, I think they have toned it down since launch and would like it to pull more G's.

When we were there this past January I rode it 3 or 4 times a day. It didn't bother me at all. My BIL rode it once a day and he was messed up for a couple of hours. I don't think he felt sick but just dizzy and weird. I think it is one of the best rides in WDW. I am looking forward to riding it again a week from tomorrow.

It's really hard to predict who will feel sick and who won't. I think that my DH is going to try it when we are there next week, but I bet he won't be feeling too good afterwards. He's learned that he can't do any spinning ride, but if he follows the instructions his brain might not register spinning. At least I'm hoping!

I went on it in February. I felt a little sick, but was fine by the time I got off it. I did not follow the instructions totally, though. At one time I looked around to see if the other people were doing their "jobs". Dumb and I won't do that again.

My sister felt sick for about an hour. Not like she was going to throw up, but a bit green.

If you buy any motion sickness meds make sure you try them out at home. The active ingredient in low-dowsy Dramamine wipes me out for 24 hours (same with my DH). I'm going to buy ginger capsules for him to try and I have candied ginger for him to nibble on if he's feeling sick. I saw some herbal product at Safeway last night, but though I would stick with the ginger.

Didn't feel sick but also didn't feel "right" for several hours afterwards. I am prone to motion sickness but did the ride because of DS. Never again, just not worth it to me.

I am pretty good about riding all rides. DH suggest I go on MS with the boys because I will "really like it". WRONG.

I did exactly what they said to do, and thankfully I didn't get sick or pass out, but there were moments that I was going to pass out. The feeling was very overwhelming. I concentrated real hard - eyes forward and some controlled deep breathing - thank goodness for the cold air pushed at my face. I was not sick afterwards, but I will never ride it again.

I think it affects people in different ways.

I was really afraid about getting sick. But the thought of skipping the attraction until the next time we go was a more powerful motivator for me.

I think the anticipation from waiting in line and the warnings were worse than the ride. I should have had more water beforehand, I was a little dehydrated and got a little lightheaded, but it wasn't bad.

I hate the spinning tea cups over at the MK. But I love Mission: Space!!!!:bounce:

are in the minority here. We have a 16 and 14 y/o male and female, respectively, and we are in our mid-40s--all found it rather ho-hum. Frankly, none of us could figure out what the fuss was all about and we were waiting on the ride to begin when it was over.

My husband and I rode it twice with fast pass and the kids rode it a couple of more times in stand-by since neither he nor I felt like waiting for it. IWe would all rather ride RnR or TT versus waiting for this "experience".

It was cool the first time and the second time okay, but I could certainly take it or leave it next time.

I really like thrill rides(love TOT & RNR) but when we went on MS I was a bit nervous about riding because of all the stories I had heard. I didnt get sick but I can see how people do...and I did see it. :crazy2: Before the ride I grabbed a "bag" just in case. The woman in our capsule saw me take one and asked for one too. Thank God!!!! Midway through the ride I started hearing hacking. Of course at that point I couldnt enjoy the ride anymore and just wanted out, but I saw first hand that it does make people sick. My advice...be sure to grab a bag when you get in the capsule.

How does it compare with the sensation on ToT? Is it similar to that falling feeling?

MY problem is that my solution to feeling queasy on rides is to close my eyes. If I can't do that on this one, I'm really afraid to go on now.

I think that Mission Space is FAR less of an "experience" than Tower of Terror. I'm probably being influenced by my 6 year old. He LOVED Mission Space, rode it twice and never felt sick. I grabbed a bag (just in case) but didn't come close to needing it. (I had taken ginger for a week just in case...)

Tot? Poor DS was in tears when we left and wouldn't THINK about riding it again....although that was only a month ago and now he says that he'll ride on the next trip....even those he's "just scared"

I rode this with my 7yo and 9yo in April and we all loved it. The scariest part was the queue with all the warnings LOL. The cm's were wonderfull and when my 9yo was hesitant right at boarding she said "your mom is more likely to get sick than you are" and my dd was fine (as was I) LOL. They did give her the option not to ride and exit without making a big deal of it which wasnice.

FWIW, I do get woozy at sim rides when they are out of sic and I was fine on this. Occasionally STar Tours gets to me but MS never did. Make sure you follow the instructions and keep your head back, and just enjoy it is alot of fun.

It was a very cool ride and ftr I dislike TOT but do ride it as my girls won't ride alone :-(

After so much hesitation and anxeity I look forward to riding again in October!

DH, DD6 and I rode Mission Space for the first time on our trip in June. No one felt sick afterwards and it has become one of my DD's favorite rides.

I guess I'm really in the minority here. DH & DD rode it in May and loved it. I was too scared because I suffer from motion sickness when spinning or on attractions like Body Wars.

We were in WDW over the weekend and I wanted to ride it so I took 2 less-drowsy dramamine. Within just a few seconds, I was so sick even though I was keeping my head back and looking straight ahead just like they tell you. By the time I got off the ride, I was in a cold-sweat, shaking terribly and had lost all color in my face. I never actually vomited, but was extremely nauseated and had to sit down for about 15 minutes. I took me about an hour to feel close to normal again.

Never again!

I rode this last week. I don't think I will ride it again. I don't get motion sickness unless I go on a bunch of spinning rides in a row.

I think the part where they wanted you to push buttons was a distraction and my eyes would look over when someone would be pressing their button which probably made it worse.

:30 seconds more on that ride and I would have lost it. I didn't feel right for an hour.

I am glad I did it for the experience, but I would never do it again.

You absolutely cannot close your eyes on MS. Your brain uses the visual cues to help give you the sensation that you are being pushed in the back (launched) instead of being spun. If you close your eyes, your brain will figure out you are being spun. Also, you need to keep your head back and still. We followed the rules and did not get sick at all.
