For those who have ridden Mission Space, how is it?

I'm not one that likes simulator rides. I always feel a little yucky afterwards. Is M/S worse than Star Tours and Body Wars? I remember reading once to look at the wall in Body Wars if you feel dizzy. Does that trick work on MS?

Is it scary for a 5 yo who isn't very brave?

The current plan is to send DH and ds, 7 on it first. Just wanted some additional opinions.

I know my six-year-old would have been terrified on it. I was scared, but it was more of a fear of the unknown than anything else. In my opinion, it was a lot more intense that Star Tours or Body Wars, and I felt a little queazy, whereas I never do on those other rides.

The main intesity is unlike Star Tours or Body Wars -- but there is a section that is 'flight simmlulator' like and that may be the part that would cause you a quesy feeling. But the intense parts are more similar to the launch at RocknRoller coaster (for a longer period) than they are to the other simulator rides.

as far as the 5yr old goes, I would not recommend it for them. My daugter is 6 and she is a little skiddish with dark rides, and fast rides... there is no way I would take her on this one, she would be scared to death.

hope that helps

It's a judgement call on this one. My 6 y/o DD and 9 y/o DS did this ride more than once a few weeks ago, and they LOVED it ! Unfortunately my kids have a twisted sense of fear...in that "nothing" seems to bother them.

A few things to note--1)you are strapped in pretty tight with a shoulder harness, 2) you are enclosed in a space capsule (so if they're afraid of being in a small cramped space this may be an issue), 3) throughout the rise, especially early on, you feel that you are actually taking off while in a reclining position, and then you feel the push and forces of a take off which to me was rather intense. 4) you are instructed to face forward at the screen (and not look around) so that you don't become dizzy.

I would defintely recommend riding this first w/o your child if you have any doubt, because once you are harnessed in, there's no turning back and you don't want him/her to panic...

Hmmm....definitely not for me or 5 yo ds. Not even sure about my 7 yo. Maybe we'll send DH and see what he says........Thanks everyone.

Ok I tried it Friday night and it took me over 4 hours to recover from the nausea. Normally I can handle any ride because just when it starts to get to me the ride is over but not so with this one. I was wondering if I would get out before I lost it. I would take dramimine first if you want to try this one.

I am the biggest chicken on earth. I rode splash mtn. ONCE and hated it and will probably never get up enough nerve to ride TOT but I made myself ride Mission space a couple of weeks ago and found it to be downright wimpy. I didn't feel claustrophobic and I didn't think it was dark. my face didn't peel back and the veins in my neck didn't throb. I did feel the G forces which felt NOTHING like the Rock N Rollercoasters. all I felt was a little presure like I was being pushed back into my seat. It was not what I was expecting. after it was over I thought was that it? I didn't feel any spinning and definitly no nausea or queasy feeling like body wars. the weirdest part about it was that my legs felt wobbly after I got off (only once) and so did DD's. we rode it about 10 times that week and it never bothered me. we even rode it two or three times in a row. it is a great ride don't get me wrong but it's not at all a "thrill" ride in my opinion. I found test track to be more intense than mission space. they make it appear to be scarier than it really is. I also thought space mtn was a 100 times scarier than mission space was. Linda (42 yrs old)

Both my sons (6) and my dd (10) LOVED it and experienced no problems, well one of my sons says he felt a little quesy. My dh, me and my niece all experienced a weird type of quesy feeling after, not like I was going to get sick, but not normal either. DH recovered quickly (not the second time though, lol), my niece took a couple of hours, I was "off" the rest of the day and early into the night. The only thing is that I was already not feeling well when I went on and I was the only one who didn't eat before (a tip I learned from the boards, but wish I ignored) I don't usually get motion sickness so I thought if I went on with an empty stomach it would help, but it backfired in my case.

BTW, I LOVED the ride and will try it again, only later in the day and definitely after having something in my stomach and most importantly I willl make sure I feel well that day!

I rode MS and the first time I was sort of impressed. After the second ride I was bored. The entertainment value just wasn't there for me. I was SSSOOO excited to ride it the first time, but been there done that.
I rode Space Mtn the day after and was MUCH more entertained! Space Mtn rules!

I loved it, it didn't make me sick at all. DH hated it, said he is sticking with Pooh Bear ride.:teeth:

I'm with Disneywith6Kids -- I can tolerate most any ride so I didn't think M:S would be a problem --- WRONG!!!!! I felt horrible during the ride and afterwards for about 4 hours. My oldest DD(7), however, loved it and rode it twice in a row without any problems. My DH rode it once and didn't have a problem either. I've decided that I will try it again on our next trip but if it makes me feel horrible again my days of traveling to Mars may be over!

It seems to me that 5 is really pushing it. I wouldn't take my 5 year old on it.

I normally feel sick on simulators but on Mission to Space I followed the instructions about looking forward and I felt fine. I also take ginger capsules before I go parks. You can get them at vitamin food stores like GNC. They work really well without side effects.

DH and I rode M:S for the first time last Friday. There was a little boy in fron of us, probably 7? He had been on it before and loved it. We went before dinner, so as not to "lose" our dinner;)
We were both very careful to follow the directions: kept our heads back and looked straight ahead. DH felt fine afterwards and I felt a tiny bit dizzy for about a minute after I got off.
We enjoyed it. We always skip Star Tours and Body Wars, they make DH positively sick (mostly Body Wars...I think it's the subject matter there!).
As for a 5 year old...I wouldn't take him/her, especially if he/she isn't brave.

I have a question with regards to the capsules. I am terrified of small spaces if they are enclosed and would love to ride this ride. Are the capsules more in the line of Star Tours where you are in a seat looking at a screen with others around you or more like individual seats that are enclosed. Thank you.

One more question - As a rule I generally do not get motion sick except on our past trip I got dizzy on Tea Cups and Astro Orbitor. Totally took me by surprise, it was my first time ever feeling this way on any ride.

My question is - How is MS comparible to Tea Cups/Astro Orbitor. Do you get dizzy?

TIA

There is only room for 4 people in the capsule. It's maybe 8 - 10 feet long. The row across, I mean.

I rode it on the 30th of last month and had no problem. I did wear those motion sickness bracelets I bought about 9 years back (they look like sweat bands with a button on them - you wear them on your wrists at your pulse points). FYI I never get motionsickness, but wore them as a precaution. I had eaten breakfast about two or three hours before riding.

The g-forces were toned down from 4 gs to 2.5. I did feel it in my face. I don't recall feeling that on RNRC.
