Rode MS a couple times last week. Overall, the theming is really great, but I'm thinking that the ride itself wasn't as amazing as it was cracked up to be. The launch part is intense, no doubt about it - but once you've entered "space", it kind of mellowed out to me. Didn't get much more exciting than Star Tours.

On the other hand, DH loved this ride. He wanted to ride again and again. I guess it's another one of those attractions that either grabs you, or doesn't.

However, choosing Gary Sinise as the ride narrator was an excellent decision. He's one of my favorite actors.:D

i wasnt' really all that scary..even with the launch.. to me that wasn't that intense after the first time.. (It was similair to me like riding Top Thrill Dragster)

My DH said after it was over "That was it?".. he said it should have been much longer..

my five year old wasn't even scared of it..

I won't say it was boring, but semi predictable after the first few rides.

I liked Gary Sinise as well, but did you notice how they tried to cover up his receding hairline? Thats the first thing I noticed... I even said to DH (who is very bald!).. hey he's starting to look like you!

What ride wouldn't be at least "semi predictable after the first few rides"?

I have to disagree with you.. with roller coasters, even though it is the same ride, the intensity and other factors are different depending on what seat you are in, weather conditions and even the operators or other riders change that experience every time!

I guess I thought the movie would change or it would be better. The ride was good, but as a thrill ride nut, I thought there would be more to it... after the launch it is well.. sort of flat.

I agree with you Cindy. For instance, TOT and RNRC never lose their appeal to me after numerous rides. They're always thrilling. MS, while advertised as a thrill ride, really didn't seem like one to me. Perhaps if it had been promoted differently, it wouldn't have fallen so flat. I worked really hard to avoid reading spoilers of MS before my trip, just so I wouldn't know anything about it. I guess I was just surprised that it's really just another simulator ride.

I agree in that I was hoping for something else once we "landed" on mars....another blast off or something! It was almost too tame. I agree too that TOT or RnRC are more thrilling and seem different each time I ride. Not sure this one will but I don't think so. And it didn't make me want to ride it over and over. I enjoyed it more than Test track however - I didn't like that so much at all!

Attractions that are rife with detail like Splash Mountain or the Haunted Mansion or Pirates of the Caribbean. There's always something to find that you haven't seen before because of the level of detail found in the sets.

Mission: Space is centered around the idea, "hey, we have this really cool technology that we could probably use to simulate space flight pretty decently -- from the intensity of launch to zero-gravity to a re-entry." ..in that, it succeeds remarkably, but the attraction lacks the detail and depth that makes Disney's other attractions so amazing. Sure, on all of them, you're usually in some vehicle attached to some track going the same way you always went. But, that doesn't stop your eyes from exploring, and Disney used to always give your eyes something to find. Mission: Space's warnings, "Look straight head," work on more than one level.

I agree. DH and I really liked Mission Space and rode it several times last week, but I do not think it is as intense as Rock-N-Roller Coaster. I get more of a 'thrill" from Big Thunder, Splash and Space Mountain:) I also agree with the detail bit. I always see something new on Haunted Mansion even though I have ridden it MANY times. I was expecting to have a big drop in the end at the on the edge/don't move an inch scene:) That would be cool. We had NO wait in the stand by line Saturday the 24th, Wed the 27th and Saturday the 30th-we walked on. Two times DH and I were the only ones in our pod! I wonder how people feel about the ride? The same days Test Track had 25-70 minute waits!

Since when has EPCOT and the pavillions there been about thrill rides? the purpose of EPCOT was always intended as entertaining enlightenment about past current and future technology.
Walt himself never wanted amusement park or thrill rides in his parks and I for one wish it stayed that way.
I hate the trend toward trying to turn DW into 6 flags.
Walt is no doubt turning in his grave over what they are doing at the parks these days!

I'm happy to hear that MS isn't as "thrilling" as advertised!!! Now, I might give it a shot! I think a combination of thrilling and not so thrilling is a perfect mix at Disney so that everyone in the family has something to look foward to and can still have fun as a family. It's not turning into 6 Flags.
