Mission Space Heads Up.

I also ignored the warnings and instructions the first time and I felt very sick.

Then I went back, followed the instructions and was fine. The ride is really not that bad as long as you follow the instructions.

For those who like MS (and count me among them), you might want to make a side-trip to the Astronauts Hall of Fame, at Cocoa Beach. They have a simulator that lets you pull 4Gs (it's a really small, one person per capsule version of the MS ride, but with less of a story, and you don't go to Mars).

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

After hearing all the warnings about this ride I was nervous to try it. I dont usually get sick on anything, but this one had me worried. Turns out I did fine on it. The only thing that bothered me was the woman throwing up in our capsule. That sort of ruined the experience for me.

That's not true--they left me on Mars!!!

We rode this ride five times last trip! My wife and six year old daughter was scared but it's their favorite ride now. It is intense. I'm the only one who feels a little woozy afterwards. I feel that way for about thirty mintutes afterwards.

But when I'm about the take off in the ride I keep thinking one thought: "move bird!"

I get motion sickness so take Dramamin before plane rides and before a day at an amusement park.

I went on MS this past spring and followed the directions TO THE LETTER. I didn't have any problems.

I think I'll pass on it in future, but wanted to have an opportunity to experience it at least once.

M:S is a once per trip ride for me.

I LOVE the lift off. It is just so awesome. However, when we start dodging the asteroids and the rough landing on Mars does me in.

I have to then sit down for awhile and rest.

I save it for last on an evening that I'm not going to Illuminations, then go sit somewhere and watch the crowds filter out and watch the fountain dance!!

Too bad they have decided in their infinite wisdom (sarcasm on!!!) to close Fountainview early!!

People who ride this ride just can't believe how sick some folks get and unfortunately I was one of those. I never get sick and I followed directions exactly but I thought I would die. It ruined several hours of that day. My kids weren't sympathetic either because they were fine. I don't think you can predict but to you who ride it just fine- those of us who don't are REALLY feeling bad. Its an incredible ride but I won't try it again.

I totally agree with you. I read all the comments here that if I followed the directions exactly, I'd be fine. So I decided to give it a try even though I tend to get motion sickness on carousels, the teacups, etc. I figured maybe since I would be staring straight ahead at a screen, I wouldn't get disoriented. Big Mistake!!!! I followed all the directions and I still got horribly ill. I tried sitting down for 30 minutes with my head down afterwards but the moment I stood up I felt deathly ill again. We had to go back to the hotel room and I wound up getting sick in the car on the way there. This was in the middle of the afternoon and the next morning I still felt bad! It took me a good 24 hours to feel better.
My advice would be that if you have ever gotten motion sickness to not even try to ride this ride. Why take the chance of ruining a day or two of your vacation. I'm sorry I did!

Does Bonine/Dramamine help?

How many people saw/heard someone throw up on or as you left the ride?

I am sensitive to rides that spin and a bit sensitive to motion simulators. If I'm woozy, I'm afraid seeing someone else get sick would push me over the edge. :(

I have some Bonine to try for this trip, and we go to MGM first... So if it helps for Star Tours, I guess I'll feel better about Mission Space.

Bonine didn't help me. I took it and still got sick. My DH didn't take any medication and he didn't get sick but I did. I will never take that ride again.

Yes listen to all the CM's regarding this ride. If you think you will get sick avoid the ride. Its not worth wasting not even an hour at WDW.

I don't like things that spin around but I was curious and had to try it. My husband loves thrill rides. I followed all the instructions and still felt sick for many hours after. But I'm glad I tried it. My husband didn't like it because he felt really cramped and confined; he didn't feel nauseous at all. I guess everyone just reacts differently.

my 9 yo son and i went on. we hadn't read up on it, but it sounded really cool and there was no wait. he had never been on one of the major thrill type of rides before. he loved it. i loved it too. while neither of us felt sick for even a minute, my legs were slightly wobbly when we were walking out of the building. btw, i was so excited that he seemed to be enjoying the ride that i kept looking over at him (i didn't feel sick from looking sideways). he smiled through the whole thing. it's wierd, but i don't really like star tours or even back to the future much because i feel like i am getting thrown all over the place and beaten up. i did not feel this way on mission space. i thought it was much milder than the other simulators. if any of us were prone to nausea from motion, however, we would not have gone on. so glad we did. it was one of the highlights of our trip.

I don't know if you can predict how you will react to MS, but I will share my experience.

I love rollercoasters - I have never met one that I didn't love. I HATE simulator rides. I will never ride Star Tours or Back to the Future again. They both have me sick for hours after riding them. But I love Mission Space.

I wanted to be an astronaught as a child, and even into HS - until I found out I was too tall to ever be considered. So I was soooooo excited about MS. I was going to ride this no matter what.

I was fine! I did have the adrenaline from finally getting to blast off into space. But I didn't have any motion sickness. However, My DH -who will ride BTTF 10 times in a row without a problem did feel a little queezy for about 15 minutes.

To ride or not? If you have any interest in the ride, I'd try it!!

I think the effects of this ride are way overhyped, as well. If you follow the directions, just about everyone does fine - there are very few that get ill on the ride in the big picture. I think it's incredible, and a cool experience to have - great technology. I have ridden several times, and I have never seen anyone ill, nor has anyone in our group been ill in anyway. I'm sure there are people that get ill, but I would guess that most of them don't follow directions - and then some are just more sensitive to the sensations.

Each person has to make their own decision. I went on it before all the talk about people getting scared and sick on it, so maybe that helped some - I wasn't nervous about it, just excited to get a chance to try it!

Hope others don't get scared of - Disney put a lot of time, money, and research into it - great attraction!

My ten year old grandson wanted to try this ride last July and I was the only brave one in our party who would go on with him.
I am prone to motion sickness but how could I turn him down. I focused on the screen, never moving my head or shutting my eyes. Let's just say I won the "Grandmother of the Year Award".:love1:

I did alright by following the directions. Feel a little weird afterwards but it's a great ride. I've done it twice now. Last Dec 2003 and just last week. My 5 year old who JUST made the height requirement tried it for the first time and she liked it!!! I was so worried about her but she did fine!

I do NOT like the Tea cups or the Merry Go Round because of the spinning and almost threw up after a scrambler ride but this ride I do fine on. Go figure.

I'm planning on bringing my son who will be almost 5yo. I'm not too concerned about him since like many kids he will spin around until his is silly with dizziness. I was the same way as a child, but now if I turn myself around a time or two (you know how you pick a child up and twirl around with them--I don't do this by myself anymore... ;) ) I feel very dizzy. To be a kid again!

I know what you mean! They can handle those dizzy rides much better than we can! I was just afraid she'd close her eyes or look around but she was fine.

It's definitely one of the first signs of my old age, and it's such a bummer. I can't handle any spinning rides anymore. :(

I feel so old!

Our neighbors rode it last summer. Their 12-year-old triplets said it was a really great ride, but make sure you don't turn your head from side to side, or close your eyes!

Can't wait to ride it!
