Mission: Space...did it make you sick?!

I didn't ride it, but my DH rode went on with our nieces and nephew. He was fine when he got off, but experienced an episode later that night of being disoriented and dizzy. We thought it was a low blood sugar, but it wasn't. Two weeks after we got home, he had a minor TIA (stroke) and was in the hospital for two days. The doctors attributed the ride to his having this stroke. Luckily, it was minor and he recovered 100%. NEVER AGAIN....

We've never had any problems. My DS9 and I really enjoy this ride. We've probably been on about 7 or 8 times. My DW will ride it, but it's not her favorite and we managed to get DD14 to ride it once. She won't ride it again, but didn't have any problems after riding.

I have never gotten scared or sick on any ride before in my life. I was really excited to ride MS and never thought about how closed in it is. When I was sitting in the seat with the shoulder harness on and the front started to close, I almost started screaming to let me out ( 31 year old man). I never knew how clostorphobic I was until this ride. I felt like I was getting buried alive. I look next to me and there is a kid about 7 years old just smiling and laughing and I'm thinking get me the heck out of here. I just closed my eyes and started thinking about wide open fields and big spaces... Once the ride got started and the screen showed the take off I was fine...until it was over. I could not wait to get off of that thing and I will never ride it again just because of how closed in it is. I did hear them say if you have a problem with tight spaces, you might want to rethink riding, but I've never felt that closed in before....completely unable to move or get out. I can only imagine what a CAT Scan would be like. They'll have to put me under

I did not throw up, but I felt 'off'.

I didn't particularly enjoy the ride. I just wanted it to end! I don't plan on riding again.

I just rode MS for the first time this past week and I loved it! It was awesome! I did not get sick or get a headache although after the second time in a row I felt funny for a few minutes. Next time, I'll just wait a few more minutes in between.

DH and I rode it last September. No wait in the single rider line so we went right in. I felt slightly dizzy through the ride, and a bit worse once I got off. My DH felt dizzy once he got off. We both decided it wasn't for us. It may have been better if we got to ride it together - but I doubt it.

I don't get it...we thought MS was quite tame. The thing is, everyone builds it up so much, your anxiety gets to you before the ride even starts and your nerves already have you convinced that your going to be sick. We didn't think it was bad at all, just like spinning fast on the Teacups or riding Rockin' Roller Coaster. If you can handle spinning rides, this thing is no problem, piece of cake...plus, we couldn't even really tell we were spinning anyway.

Guys, trust me on this one, the hype has MS built up to be so bad, it gets everyone nervous long before they even get on the ride. I get more nervous on TOT than any ride at Disney....but I could ride MS over and over with no problem. Stop listening to the hype and give it a try, people have built this thing up to be MUCH worse than it really is.

I respect your opinion of you thinking that, along with you other critics...that's fine. I just shared my story and asked a question, I didn't ask for your input of whether or not I'm a good person. But thanks anyway Besides, my response to you would be that she had some bad karma coming her way anyway since she has wronged me in the past...so I got my revenge on her

Anyway, I'm glad all of you gave your opinions on this ride! I admit that the 2nd time around I got a little dizzy...but I would ride it again and again! I was also weary after hearing that 5-year old died on it a few months before I went....

Oh sure, it's quite delightful to prank someone into getting so sick that they throw up for a half hour. What a lovely young lady.

Does anyone remember when the ride first opened? Didn't Disney have ads all over TV that pretty much advocated the same behavior, with the kids coming off the rides and pranking their parents into going on? Or am I just imagining things?

Anyway, I know my propensity for migraines, claustrophobia, and motion sickness, and I decided not to take the risk on this ride. My DS and DH are the same way, so I advised them not to ride. But I was tempted to send my DM72 on it without us...

Although I really liked MS, I came off the ride feeling a little dizzy and funny. I'm glad I rode the ride and will definately do it again. My poor mother and husband didn't even stand a chance against this ride. Luckily for my sister and I, they decided to "sit this one out." I totally understand how it can really mess up someone that suffers from motion sickness or has inner ear problems.

I get sick on the ride. I've never actually thrown up or anything, but I feel really sick in my stomach after getting off, and I'm a bit dizzy from the spinning. It's DH's favorite ride though, so we have a compromise. I ride with him once, then I get a Sprite to settle my tummy while he rides again in the single riders line.

When we went last year though, my Dfather could not ride...he looked kinda just hearing us describe it to him. Dmother loved it though, so they rode together while we waited for them!

My dad (who just turned 63 yesterday), wife and I rode it back in May.

We all loved it and none of us got sick.

The ride was great but the intensity of it was a bit of a let down in the sense that I psyched myself out based on comments I read on this board prior to our trip.

I tried to explain to my dad and wife about it to "prepare" them, but it wasn't an issue.

MS is a great ride and I can't wait to do it again.

And again... and again...

I have ridden twice. First time I felt a little woozy for an hour or so after. Second time I did better. I probably won't ride again unless the people I'm with really want to do it.

I'm so sorry to hear this My DH went on it with my two sons (I wouldn't go near it!) and he was very sick afterwards. I felt so sorry for him. He was nauseous at first. Later though he was quite disorientated and had a blinding headache which worried me a lot. He was ok by the next morning but it basically ruined the rest of the evening for him. But that was all very minor compared to your DH's problems. I'm so glad he made a full recovery. Lesson learned for our DH's - no more Mission Space!

It didn't bother me or my boys but it made my SIL and BIL extremely sick.They didn't throw up but we thought they might.It was several hours before they felt better.

It never bothered me until about a year ago.

I did everything I was supposed to but my head just felt like a dinosaur was chomping on my brain for about 2 hours after we got off the ride.

My sis & I rode it about 2 years ago. She gets sick on everything (merry-go-round, car sick, everything) and was fine. I can ride anything without getting sick, but MS made me ill. I was fine all through the ride, but after, I felt like I was gonna hurl !! We sat for a while, walked for a while, and sat somemore, but nothing helped!!! We decided to do Ellen's Energy Adventure ~ you know, a nice slow ride/show in the air conditioning. Well, I practically had to lay down and close my eyes because it was making me sick . It was time for Illuminations after Ellen, so we watched it then left. All night long I felt like I was still spinning and getting the weightlessness feeling. Needless to say, I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER ride MS again!!!!

BTW Mouseketeer, I think it was funny too!!!! Something I would definately do to my sis given the chance!!

My kids all went on it and felt a little "off" when they were finished. I don't think that any of them would go on it again though because of it.
