Missing South Carolina governor wasn't hiking. He was having a booty call!!

Confusion intensified Wednesday morning after The State newspaper reported that Sanford had just returned from Argentina. Reporter Gina Smith had caught Sanford returning to the Atlanta airport, where the governor admitted part of the story -- that he had been visiting Buenos Aires.

"I wanted to do something exotic," Sanford told The State.

Love this quote on FoxNews... I just bet he did...

What a jerk, but I wonder why his wife hasn't left him. She found out five months ago and it was still going on? That seems strange. I can't imagine she would stay with him after this. Must be something in it for her to stay.

This is one bizzare story.

First, he's gone without a trace. Uh, Governor? Don't you have a state to run????

Then, he says he's "hiking" in Appalachia to clear his head. Uh huh . . .

When that doesn't pan out, he says he went to Argentina. OK, and what were you doing in Argentina, Governor???

Oh, to visit a "dear, dear friend". Yeah, right.

I guess it is easy to get all this confused, Governor Stanford. After all, they all start with the letter "A" - Appalachian Trail, Argentina, ADULTERY . . . :sad2:

A woman's self esteem has to be a -10 to stay with a man that she knows is cheating on here. :sad1:

So with the moral character he is admitting to, what makes everyone so sure this story is the truth? I can not believe that all these wives, Maddoff, spitzer, this one, etc... are all squeaky clean "Mrs. Cleaver", "I had no idea he was doing that!" types.

I read he has a new book out supposedly with details.

On topic: The gov. drew a lot of attention to himself with the disappearance and deception. Those were crazy bad calls. The rest was bad enough on it's own.

I agree. A "what was he thinking" moment! I have to say however, I admire his wife and her statement. I admire that she didn't have a "stand by your man" moment and let him face the press alone. Good for her.

If you heard Mrs. Sanford's statement, you would have heard that she asked him to move out two weeks ago.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. The man stepped up and admitted his mistake. We need to allow the family to work out their business without everyone adding their two cents
There are more important things happening such as Iran but it is being pushed aside to cover this.

Statement from First Lady Jenny Sanford

I would like to start by saying I love my husband and I believe I have put forth every effort possible to be the best wife I can be during our almost twenty years of marriage. As well, for the last fifteen years my husband has been fully engaged in public service to the citizens and taxpayers of this state and I have faithfully supported him in those efforts to the best of my ability. I have been and remain proud of his accomplishments and his service to this state.

I personally believe that the greatest legacy I will leave behind in this world is not the job I held on Wall Street, or the campaigns I managed for Mark, or the work I have done as First Lady or even the philanthropic activities in which I have been routinely engaged. Instead, the greatest legacy I will leave in this world is the character of the children I, or we, leave behind. It is for that reason that I deeply regret the recent actions of my husband Mark, and their potential damage to our children.

I believe wholeheartedly in the sanctity, dignity and importance of the institution of marriage. I believe that has been consistently reflected in my actions. When I found out about my husband's infidelity I worked immediately to first seek reconciliation through forgiveness, and then to work diligently to repair our marriage. We reached a point where I felt it was important to look my sons in the eyes and maintain my dignity, self-respect, and my basic sense of right and wrong. I therefore asked my husband to leave two weeks ago.

This trial separation was agreed to with the goal of ultimately strengthening our marriage. During this short separation it was agreed that Mark would not contact us. I kept this separation quiet out of respect of his public office and reputation, and in hopes of keeping our children from just this type of public exposure. Because of this separation, I did not know where he was in the past week.

I believe enduring love is primarily a commitment and an act of will, and for a marriage to be successful, that commitment must be reciprocal. I believe Mark has earned a chance to resurrect our marriage.

Psalm 127 states that sons are a gift from the Lord and children a reward from Him. I will continue to pour my energy into raising our sons to be honorable young men. I remain willing to forgive Mark completely for his indiscretions and to welcome him back, in time, if he continues to work toward reconciliation with a true spirit of humility and repentance.

This is a very painful time for us and I would humbly request now that members of the media respect the privacy of my boys and me as we struggle together to continue on with our lives and as I seek the wisdom of Solomon, the strength and patience of Job and the grace of God in helping to heal my family.

Very dignified response from the wife...

This guy is flat out nuts and unstable. This goes beyond the standard affair. I always get amazed when these guys get to stay in office and have their wives stand beside them. This is even worse then that. How are people picking these crackpots to lead us???

Of course he admitted his "mistake", he got caught.:lmao::rotfl:

just the latest contestant with Blagojevich, Spitzer and that guy from New Jersey, remember him? McGreevy, was that his name? in the reality show "I'm a Governor - Get Me Out of Here."

You could add Clinton to the mix too! ;)

I think he may have admitted his "mistake" because a reporter at the airport caught him getting off the flight from Argentina. Typically, hikes in the Appalachians do not end up in Argentina. The trail is long, but not THAT long. :rotfl2:

Politicians having affairs is one thing. For a sitting governor to go AWOL and give NO ONE any idea how to contact him for the better part of a week is inexcusable politically. If the state had found itself in the midst of an emergency (such as Texas had last year with Hurricane Ike), South Carolina would have been in a mell of a hess.

I don't believe "crying" was all he was doing in Argentina...... :rolleyes1

He told reporters he spent "the last five days of my life crying in Argentina" and the affair is now over. Sanford, a rumored 2012 presidential candidate, refused to say whether he'll leave office.
Umm, why was the loser crying?? Was it because his wife of 20 years finally told him to get out and get his act together? Did he cry because he was thinking of his political career being flushed down the toilet over an adulterous affair?

If I was his wife, he would be crying a lot more after hearing that statement. Sorry, but if he was really committed to working on his marriage it would have been a phone call to the woman in Argentina. "Sorry babe but the wife I said vows to, the wife that birthed my children, the wife that gave up her career to support mine means more to me than you. Buy bye!" But no, plan to spend 7 days down there. Yeah, he's really committed to that marriage.:sad2:

That was my thought. A hurricane doesn't just happen suddenly, but other things do.....like tornadoes, terrorist attacks, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc.

If this guy wants to have exotic flings, then he shouldn't be married and should get elected as the playboy he seems to be. All these politicians' families could form a support group. They could remake the First Wives Club, but base it on real first ladies.

Yhis story goes so far beyond politics. I don't even think you can bring anyone else in the mix to compare to this guy. This is beyond the usual politician cheating or scamming the public ot whatever. This guy is sooooooo out there it's unreal. I am a repunlican (not that it matters) but i don't recall ever seeing this kind or mental illness in someone elected.

That's what I'm saying. This goes miles past the usual, "I have sinned and broken my vows, yada, yada, yada" line of bs we typically hear. This chief executive disappeared from the face of the earth for a considerable stretch of time and was surprised that anyone noticed or cared. What kind of delusional whackjob actually thinks he can get away with that crap? As if no one was going to notice the governor was missing for week or so and no one knew where to find him? Yeah.....That happens every day. No big deal. :rolleyes1 What was he smoking down in Argentina? He doesn't seem to have to best hold on reality, IMHO.

Adultery may be the least of his issues. :scared:

I just don't understand why some people can be so stupid. You have a high profile job, you are mentioned as a possible Presidential candidate, you've seen other governors go down in flames in similiar situations, but you still do it..........:confused3

I agree with all these sentiments.
But when I saw him on TV I thought he looked like an older gentleman. Now I see he is the same age as my DH. In fact, DH is 1 month older than him. Maybe we are getting old...
