Missing school to go to WDW?

I dont really mind these threads at all and quite like reading the various responses. I have taken my kids out for odd days attached to the end and beginning of term but the last occasion will be the last time for us. My dd started her AS history in Yr10. Due to the school making a hash of giving us the wrong dates 1 1/2 yrs before (when we booked) It meant that we lost the first 2 days of term. When my dd got back she had missed two double lessons of her subject and said 'Mum, dont you ever do that agian!" I felt pretty guilty. Ds who was starting Yr 8 also told me he missed a lot too.
I have even forgone a trip I won to the Bahamas in October because I will not run the risk of this happening again. Mad, some of you might say but I cant play around with their education at this stage in their school career. Maybe if they were younger I might take a few days but I dont think I would take any more than that.

This happened to us a few years back. I had booked with VH's then school gives us new dates a few months later. I tried changing dates but their flights were sold out. Had to cancel lose deposit and rebook with another airline. Lost £225 if I remember rightly. Luckily the new flights were a lot cheaper so ended up better off but not happy with school.

its not just the work that they miss out on by going back late in that September term.. there are new people and new relationships are formed, you dont understand the way the class system is working if you go up a year..
its an important time not only educationally, but also socially.. and I would rather pay the extra money and have my child start a new school year on time.

In the past I did it at half term October, one week half term one week out of school with a teacher training day often 4 days only, good weather, cheaper, and halloween parties, but as the kids get older I have switched to the heat and queues of August.

Hi,

We have now booked our trip - going to Sheraton Vistana Villages in October next year, mostly in the school holidays but my girls will be missing 3 days of school.

I am feeling guilty about this already and just wondered - do those of you with children take them out of school because of crowds/weather/prices and if so for how long do you think is ok....?
