i've heard people talk about the horizons ride at epcot but i never had a chance to see it. i have the horizon song on a disney cd and it sounds like it would have been something i would have enjoyed. what exactly was it and why did they get rid of it (especailly when so many seem to have loved it) is there a video online that i could view old footage from horizons..thanks

Oooo!! Me too!! I want to know if there's any video's online or anything of it! They closed it a month before one of my first visits to Disney World. :thumbsup2

Horizons was a slow moving ride, typical Disney theme storytelling. The ride cars held up to 4 people and were suspended from an overhead track. It was a look at the future in two ways...some scenes were a look at the future as it was perceived in the 1920s and 1930s, there was a very contemporary segment with computer chips and current technology, and then a modern look at the future, space stations, undersea cities and advanced travel technology on Earth, as well as futuristic farming scenes. The ride lost its sponsor, General Electric, when GE bought NBC which has significant financial interests in Univeral Studios, a conflict of interest for GE. Hewlett Packard is the current sponsor of Mission Space, which was built on the Horizons location.

thank you for the information. i'm bummed that i missed it!

Horizon's was an excellent ride. Chuck S gives a pretty good description in his post. However, if you want to see some actual video from the ride, you can go to *************. Look around for the Epcot overview, and then find Horizon's. There is a fantastic fan-made tribute of the ride, which includes music, pictures of the construction of the building as well as a complete ride-through. Only downside is, you have to pay $3 to be able to access the videos, but its well worth the $3 because they have ride-through videos of almost all the attractions that are extinct.
