We have a new Food Service company this year for our schools (Sodexo?) and on their menu they list "Minnie Mouse Salad" as the salad option for Friday. :scared1:

I find it very unlikely that I would want to eat anything called "Minnie Mouse Salad" outside of Disney property. Further I can NOT believe that a food service company would use the word MOUSE in the name/description of any food they serve! :scared:

Of course there is also the question of "are they legally allowed to call something they serve by the name of a Disney licensed character?" but that isn't my problem.

Mostly I am just dying to know: WHAT THE HECK IS IN A MINNIE MOUSE SALAD??? Anyone else familiar with this company and know what it is? Otherwise we will have to wait and see if I have time on Friday to get to the cafeteria and find out!

I think that's been on my kids' school lunch menu too. If I remember correctly it's just a regular salad with lettuce, carrot strips, maybe cucumber slices? And then the 'Minnie Mouse' is 3 circle shapes of American Cheese in the shape of a mickey head.

I don't know about licensing agreements or anything. I assume they do it to make the kids more excited about eating salad? As we all know, anything tastes better with the "Mouse" tied to it!:confused3:)

oh Remy, how far you've fallen...

Our food service director used to do that... She would look at the calendar and at least once or twice a week, she'd name all the items on the menu with some sort of theme. To go with your Minnie Mouse example, she might choose the day of Walt Disney's birthday and make the menu themed for Walt Disney, so the regular menu items (they were just the normal food with fancy names) got theme names. So instead of Pepperoni Pizza, garden salad with Italian dressing, sliced peaches and chocolate milk , the menu might read something like "Pluto's Pepperoni Pizza", "Minnie Mouse Salad with italian dressing", "Orlando" peaches and "Hannibal MO Chocolate Milk" It was just REALLY stupid, and she finally stopped last year

If I saw that on my kids' school lunch menu I wouldn't fret over it :confused3. I am sure it's just a cutesy name for a regular green salad.

Our elementary schools used to have a Big Bird Salad on the menu ( they may still- my kids are long gone !). It was a green salad with egg and cheese, and I think sunflower seeds. My youngest DS tried it once and deemed it DISGUSTING. Lol

Wayyyyyyyy back when my oldest was in K, the lunch lady liked to be clever with the menu. Well, one morning in Feb. my daughter was in tears because she did NOT want to eat a "groundhog" sandwich! :rotfl: It was just sausage...

Sorry, I probably should have used some more :rotfl::lmao::confused3 in my post. I am not concerned over this, I think it is really funny! And I am dying of curiosity about what it is. My girls guess is that it has strawberries and feta cheese and olives (red and white dots and black for the ears) But for $2.45 I doubt it is anything that fancy. I will be pretty disappointed if I find out it is just a regular salad with some cheese circles. :duck:

This doesn't appear to be a themed thing. We did a google search and this came up from their menus in other places that use this company, but just can't find any information on what it is. Our cafeteria managers don't have any leeway for creativity. :rolleyes2

The cafeteria manager was in my office today and I FORGOT to ask her! :headache: I will have to try to get to the cafeteria tomorrow and find out what it is.

I googled and several school menus popped up. None of them offered details though. Here's the information I did find:

A Minnie mouse salad typically comprises of 243 grams of calories, 7.5 grams of carbohydrates, 0.3 grams of fiber, 14.5 grams of Protein and about 915.6 grams of sodium. The full nutritional breakdown of this salad can be found at
