Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

Ooooh "Sport Ho-Hos!" I am so there! :teeth:

Weather freak-out here. The only saving thing for me if it is the same as January is that I will not be doing the entire even while limping as happened with Goofy. If it is hot, I know I will be going it much slower, yet it is a shorter event and I think we should be fine. Do remember to not worry about dressing for fashion. Dress as cool as you can and don't worry about all the chub stuff showing. Strength in numbers I say! I'm definitely glad for my sleeveless WISH shirt.

Angie, you have that beverage after the race. You so earned it!

Katie, you can be WISH Team too! Welcome! I'm sorry I'm not the one with the answer to your question however. I don't have anything I can get my hands on here with scheduling.

I think that having that water in the mailbox is a great idea that your Dad had about saying good morning as he rolled over and zzzz'd on.

I made a lovely 8-mile trek late morning and managed a 14 min pace. I feel joint-achy, but it's all good. I should make it just fine next week even if I must slow for the heat. I have not packed or washed the things I need yet. I hope later this eve to get there with the washing part.

Ok experienced WISH racers, I have a question for you.

My DH Lionel is coming to the start with me, and wants to know where the observation spots will be. Anyone know where he is allowed to observe the race from? And, can anyone recommend a good sideliner schedule if there are multiple viewing areas?

I also have a friend who is working (he works in the costume warehouse) and he wants to pop over on a break to cheer me on.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Wow, one week from right now and it will be over!! I got my last LR in yesterday - did 8.5 miles. The wind was a pain, but it was good overall and I am not sore at all today. I also tried the sports beans for the first time yesterday and it was definately strange trying to chew them and walk at the same time  But I was surprised how good they tasted!

Thanks for all the tips on the water belts. I don't think I have time to order anything this late in the game, but I am pretty crafty. I think I will be able to make some type of attachment for my waist pack. I can fit a water bottle in the waist pack and my camera too, but it was bulky and really hard to run with so I took the water out. I am nervous about what happened at the marathon and definately feel more comfortable carrying my own water.

Has anyone noticed the water stops are 1.5 miles apart in the beginning and 2 miles apart toward the end? :confused3 Uh, that seems strange to me. I would think it would be the other way around. But what do I know? This is my first race!:rotfl:

So I plan to carry my camera, batteries, cell phone, annual pass, water bottle, and probably a washcloth to wipe my head :scared: all this talk of heat has me a little worried. Is there anything I am missing?

Which day is everyone planning on going to the expo? I am thinking friday afternoon.

The web site says that there are no places for spectators along the course, but I do know that this course (like RFTT) takes us out of MGM and along the sidewalk that leads over to the backside of the Boardwalk villas. I don't know if you know what I am talking about, but if you look at the map you will see the path from MGM around the boardwalk. The only thing about that is it's only a couple of miles (I think ?:confused3 ) to the finish from there, so he may want to zip over to finish quick to see you.

When we did RFTT it was nice having those spectators at the Boardwalk, cause you are getting toward the end and the encouragement is great.:cool1:

Becky good job on the LR and we are going to the expo Friday afternoon/evening before OHANA's

going out for my last LR in the blazing heat soon :scared1: We will see how it goes.

I miiiiiiight go to a little bit of it Friday afternoon - my conference ends at 3:30. Am considering the little event Friday evening but when I look at the schedule, it seems almost identical to some of the other things that are going on during the rest of the expo. :confused3 Is it just me? I will definitely be out there on Saturday after 2. I'll look for lime green bracelets!

Good luck, Angie! I totally feel your pain, I'm a Florida gal too. Where's the smiley sweating his tookus off? This is as close as I can get: :scared:

OK, so most of you may have thought of this, however, I was in a race today and when we picked up our packets yesterday, there were NO PINS!!! I went out and bought a packet of them, so I thought I'd pass along to add safety pins to your list of things to bring to the Minnie.

I'm heading to the expo Friday evening. Probably from 5 to 7? Of course I planned that before I saw the schedule....

Thanks Martha - I grabbed an extra set of pins and put them in my suitcase when I ran my last race. I figured just in case!

OK, so it is going to be crazy hot and humid. Does this mean I need to worry about salt packets, or do I need to eat my sport beans more often, or do I just need to drink Powerade? I don't think I've ever run in really humid weather. Really hot weather yes, but not sure how to deal with the humidity...

Good idea, I just got mine today, after finally putting it on my list @ Walmart!

Sorry, I don't know how to do multiple quotes- but I was wondering about this also. Maybe I should grab a salt packet just in case! I don't want to pass out (not unheard of for me!)

FYI on the pins - at last year's packet pick up we only got 2 pins each instead of the usual 4. My sister and I joked that FL must have safety pin shortage :lmao:

Luckily we had extras in our kits 'cause nothing bugs me more than my race number flapping around, so I want all 4 corners secure. Silly, I know, but it is one of my pre-race rituals to get all my gear ready the night before including making sure my race bib is on straight and secure. Got to look good for the pictures ;)

OK, no WISH shirt yet, I have no idea what I did with it...UGH, so anyway, I went out and got lime green dye, and tye-dyed a shirt for me to wear, but hopefully I will find my shirt between now and wednesday night. :confused3

I also got in a 5 mile walk today, but my back it killing me!!!! I hope I will be OK next week. I am thinking if I take my meds before the minnie I should be ok...hopefully I won't fall asleep...:lmao:

I cannot wait, I cannot believe we leave in four days...well almost three!! See everyone in a week!!!!:thumbsup2

We'll be heading to the expo sometime on Sat. probably as early as possible. We found out that DSIL's boyfriend is playing in a softball tournament at WWoS, so we hope to hit a game after going to the expo.

I figured it out, for me it's the gels. Had an AWESOME LR tonight.

Did 9 miles, waited till almost 7 pm, so the sun was going down, boy, what a difference that makes. Took my Powergel (strawberry- banana of course) at half way point and I flew home. I did the whole thing in 84 minutes, but the best part was, I did the last 2.5 at a 8:15 pace :dance3:

Girls that heat is NOT going to get us at MINNIE. If you are already used to something, such as sport beans then yes mabye an extra dose will do!!

I am so excited, right now I am a little worried, I have a final tomorrow that is worth 40% of my grade, still have to get a few things out of the way before I can actually graduate. - what a nuisance:sad2:

Hello Again,
Thank you for your responses. I just checked the link again and it worked! This looks like it's going to be a fun expo. The "never sit on a porta potty" speaker could be very entertaining.

You seem like such a great group of people. I hope I bump into some of you in the world. I'll be on my first solo trip. I'll make sure I have a lime green ribbon, or maybe a lime Mickey.

Thanks!

Quick newbie question: how does the timing chip attach to your shoe?

Sometimes the chip comes attached on an ankle strap that you wear. Otherwise they will give you the chip, plus zip ties so you can attach it to your shoelaces.

Do you know what resort they are staying at?? All Star Music is completely booked and I have been trying to find out why with no luck but I wonder if that is where they have all the teams staying.

Thanks
Kim

Kim--I think they are staying off site--but it wouldn't surprise me if the teams booked up the All Star resorts. Are Magic Music Days still going on?? If so, maybe the bands are staying there

Angie--WTG!! You are flying girl! :cool1: We definitley should run together on Sunday! That would be a great pace for me!

Katie--hope to see you there!

Mel--If you have any of those WISH bracelets left I might get one from you on Sat. I only bought a ss WISH shirt and I might have to ditch it and wear my singlet instead--want some sort of wish gear with me!:thumbsup2

Less than one week to the Minnie! :yay: I can't wait to see our WISH team back in action at WDW. I am on :cloud9: thinking about this weekend.

Have to share since I am soooo excited....yesterday my sister, niece and I did a local 5k as a fun taper event. Not only did we all set new PRs, but I absolutely smashed my old 5k PR by slicing more than a full minute off my time!!! :cool1:

After over a year of fighting nagging injuries and doing struggling with boring (sorry Melissa :sad2: ) PT, I cannot express how great this feels, both emotionally and physically. :yay:

Look Out 15k here we come! :cheer2:
