Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

Good morning team!!!!

I am renting a car, we are arriving on Thursday and doing parks Thurs, Fri and Sat so unfortunatley I won't be able to get people to the expo but can help get 2 or 3 people to the race, however, I am returning my rental right after the run so might not be able to take people back it depends on timing. We are staying at Music.

10 Weeks tomorrow we will be probably finished or close to it. Can anyone remember what time the run starts, what time you have to be at the start line etc??

I am having all these questions now...where to park....where not to park, I want to park at the finish line....ugghh....time to go workout....

Have great day all.

Kim

I think the race starts at 6:00am...Last year we arrived at the start at about 5:00am...we parked at Epcot and were bussed over the AK which I am very glad we did...I sure didn't want to be getting on a bus all sweaty after the race...the only thing I could think about was a shower, and a meal:lmao: !!!

We'll have a car too--allbeit a compact, but a car nonetheless--Anyway, we won't be arriving until late Friday night, but we can take folks to the expo on Sat. if you'd like. And then we're going to park at Epcot the morning of the race and bus over to AK, so if anyone needs a ride then let me know.

Still trying to learn what WISH stands for, but I am registered for the 5K, my first run ever!

Kimberly
Kimberly, I'm glad you have posted and I hope you will join us in chatting with everyone as we get to know each other a bit before we get there for the weekend.

Join in here and the weekly walking running thread. It will make your first event such fun as the days get closer.

Thanks to everyone for offering to share rides and such. What a fantastic group!

Kimberly: :welcome: This group is great. Congrats on signing up for your first race! It is really exciting and my favorite part is before the start of the race. There is a lot of energy and commraderie that makes for a fun experience. You'll love it!

We are arriving on Saturday morning since we are only doing the 15k. Last year we did the "drive to ECPOT and leave the car there and hop the bus to the start" thingee and it worked well. HockeyChic - I would highly recommend this plan to you. That way we didn't have to worry about rushing to the buses after the race and took our time taking pics, watching awards, etc. Even with all that, your noon time should be plenty. Remember we start one hour earlier this year - the official site says the awards ceremony is expected to be around 9 this year.

We are really paranoid about getting places on time (read - we are usually among the first to arrive at ALL of our races). We will most likely arrive in time for the first buses from EPCOT to the AK.

"If race participants would like to park at Epcot®, buses will be available starting at 4:34 a.m. to transport them to the start line at Disney's Animal Kingdom® "

This early arrival gave us time to stretch, hit the portapotty lines before they became outrageous, and to socialize (my fav part of any race)

We are walkers too. Some of you may have seen us at last year's 15K - we wore shirts from WALK magazine (published in our hometown) that had this printed on the back..

"Why run slow when you can WALK really fast" :thumbsup2

It amazed us how many comments we got in those. This year we will probably get comments of another kind since at the request of my 16 year old niece who is joining her mom and I this time, we are wearing Minnie Mouse baseball hats complete with ears, black tech shirts and (wait for it) my sister is making us Minnie skirts to wear over our running shorts :rotfl:

I knew I was in trouble when my niece started the conversation with "How much do you love me Aunt Kathy". Who could refuse a kid who decided she'd rather do a Disney race with 2 40 somethings than go to the Junior Prom?

I am officially registered, have accomodations at AKL for the 4th through the 7th, and booking our plane tickets next week!

Did my first outdoor run this morning(been training inside for 4 weeks). I am dying here, and bummed that I only got a mile outside in the time I usually get 1.75 miles. I am also sooo sore all over. Wow. What a difference. I also went and got some better shoes tonight. What type of shoes do you recommend? I got Nike Reax, and they feel great.

I haven't thought twice about transportation. Is it really that hard to get to the race sites? I just assumed since it was a Disney sponsered race that Disney would offer ample transportation to it. I have a friend that will be offsite also running...could she pick me and dh up at the AKL front gate?

Thanks for the welcome!

From what I know, unless you stay at AKL with Anthony travel, you are on your own to get to the start(AK). WDW transportation can get you back from EPCOT. The Marathon weekend Disney takes great care of you. My DW and I are taking a taxi from BWV to AK. You can drive to the finish at EPCOT and WDW will transport you to the start. That's the only other option I know:confused3

:welcome: ninaeve That's awesome that you are registered and booked!! Which race are you doing? I TOTALLY understand the inside to outside transition. We started running outside in August (in Florida) NOT SMART :headache: It was so discouraging. It gets better I PROMISE!! :wizard:

If you are doing 15 K there is transportation from AKL to start. I don't know about other races.

I wear Asics, they work great for me, but everyone is different.

Good luck with the training!!

Angie

I saw these on their website (I subscribe), did you get the technical shirts? How did you like them? I'm just wondering what to order.

ninaeve-WELCOME!!! Outside is totally different than the TM. Some of us here are faster on the TM, some are faster outside. Our weather is getting to where you should get to train outside mostly now. Where in AL are you? I am in Huntsville.AKL is the only hotel that has transportation to the race but I dont know if all racers can use it or only those that booked thru Anthony Travel. Most people are either renting a car or taking a taxi to the start. Normal buses arent running yet. And yes, your friend could definately come pick you up.

We also parked our car at Epcot & took the bus to AK. I wanted it there when we finished so I didnt have to worry about getting a bus at the end. Worked great for us too.

Disneywalkergirl-I love that tshirt!!! And I think you guys will look cute in your outfits! Its a fun atmosphere & everyone will appreciate it! I have a black visor & I'm trying to figure out how to get a Minnie bow on it.

It's getting close girls!!!

I'm glad about the earlier start. It was hot & muggy last year & maybe this will help.

Morning all! Just a quick training question--what sort of plan(s) are ya'll using to train for the 15K? I ask mainly for my DH b/c my training will be off b/c of a marathon next weekend (:scared1: ) Anyway, what I thought about doing was take a half marathon training schedule and modify it--since 9.3miles is about 70% of the half--I tried to adjust the LRs to 70% of what was suggested--getting to a max distance of 8.5 before taper. Sound legit???:confused3

Here is the training plan I am using (and it is pretty close to what you were thinking with your modifications)

My Official Training starts TOMORROW!!! That really makes it feel real!!!!

westcliffemom - We have the short sleeve technical shirts and really like them. I have become somewhat of a snob about shirts for training and racing - I only wear tech shirts...I really "glow" when I work out, so normal cotton is really uncomfortable.

TiffJ - thanks for the encouragement about my outfit - I know the 16 year old will be cute, but since I am 46 it is more of a stretch  I am really glad this is such a fun atmosphere. After last year's race we bought the Minnie baseball hats specifically to wear in our next Disney event - the move the full outfit is the new twist.

Stephanie: My training for the Minnie consists of extending my LR each weekend by 5 minutes. It doesn't sound like much but I anticipate it will take 90-95 minutes to run the Minnie (if I can keep up with Carrie, maybe less :) ). By doing this I will be at 90 minutes the week before the race. But I'm also coming off hip bursitis rehab so have to go about it a bit more slowly. I just ran 50 minutes the other day and my hip is doing well. When I started training for the Disney 1/2 marathon the first time I ran it, I was given advice by someone who runs marathons. She said to increase your LR by 1 mile each week. It really worked for me.

ninaeve: :welcome: and congrats on signing up! You're gonna love this group. I'm totally jealous of anyone who can run outside right now. Too much ice still around here to make it feasible.

Hope everyone is having great weekend!

No time to read, but I saw the question about the plan. I'm using the Hal Higdon plan the best I can.

Heading out right now so will come back to things when I can snuggle in here.

I'm following Hal's plan as well! Training starts tomorrow..!!

After looking into Disney's transportation my mom and I opted to rent a car. Between 7 am reservations for breakfast at Chef Mickey's, the 5K and the 15K we just decided to go with the car, rather than worrying too much about taxis. So therefore, if anyone is staying at POR and needs a ride to the 5K at Downtown Disney, let me know. We can probably help you out.

Angie - I'd still love to get a ride to the start of the 15K with you though! That way, my mom can keep the car to meet me at the finish line and cheer me on.

Leana - :thumbsup2 Love to give you a lift AND anyone else who needs one.

JUST 10 weeks, I can't wait!!!

Angie:banana:
