Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

Vicki--I use the Clif Shot Bloks during LRs. I'm in the minority, but I really can't stomach the consitency of the GUs. The Bloks are more like a cross between the consistency of a gumdrop and a gummy bear. And I really like the taste.

I am right with you on this one, Stephanie! I also use a powerade/water 50/50 mixture and I carry sport beans. Throughout the years my heart was sick, I had electrolyte issues and now I find that if I am not restoring electrolytes during a LW/R, I start to feel woozy.

Oh, and Anne -- I used to do PBJ before LW/Rs. Since I am doing WW core, I plan to try a WW oatmeal before my next LW/R. The thing that is fascinating to me is that I can actually feel myself get hungry an hour to 90 minutes into a long session. And my stomach starts to growl and my energy level drops considerably. So, even if I am doing my long session on the TM, I take power bars/energy bars to the gym with me.

Hi everyone, it's really getting exciting. Tomorrow is 65 days til the Big Event!

Eating, I'll chime in. If I'm in a hurry, a banana on the way to meet up with my group works or an apple if we're out of bananas. If I have more time, I like to have a packet of oatmeal mixed with water. That lasts longer before I feel the need to have something.

Then it's:

Cliff blocks, but I kind of find them a little too chewey. I find Gu a little too messy, but I digest it easier. Only thing with Gu is I can only tolerate 1/2 packet at a time and if I have to carry it as I go, it's bothersome. Sport beans work too, but make sure you open the packets before you go. I find them difficult to open on the trail. I usually slice the packet open and put it in a ziploc snack bag in my carry pouch.

The thing is to work with different things while you are training to see what works for you so you're prepared on the big day.

Okay, so I noticed I posted what I do during a LR but not what I eat before--really need to read before I post!;) I'm also of the PB toast persuasion. The night before a long run or race I'll drink a liter or so of Gatorade. The morning of, I have to have my one cup of coffee (that's for you cam!;) ), I allow myself one cup, and then 2 pieces of pb toast and a banana (if the kiddos haven't eaten them all). I try to eat around an hour to 45min. before heading out. The only time I've had any GI distress is the LR the morning after having pizza and beer for dinner the night before--not good!

I once swore I'd never put Gu in my mouth because I thought the consistency would make me :crazy2: I trained with Clif Bloks last year for WDW. After a tough, hot training season and a dismal, hot WDW half, I took a look at the electrolyte balance in the Bloks and thought maybe not enough sodium/potassium. Sooo...I'm training with gels now and surviving quite well. Gotbody.com has a sampler you can get with different flavors of gels from 4 or 5 different companies. Right now, I like Accel best, then Gu. Powergels were okay. Did NOT like the honey stingers.

My pre-race breakfast is not something I'm proud of and I'm going to work on it for the Minnie. Currently I eat a Snickers marathon bar and wash it down with a diet Pepsi. I do take a gel or Bloks prior to the race since I run with water only.

Thanks for the replies on food (my favorite subject;) ) I ran the Disney 1/2 in 2005, but for the life of me.... I'm fairly positive I didn't eat at all during the race. I ate a banana and 1/2 bagel before and drank Powerade/Gatorade during, but I didn't eat during. I'm guessing that was a mistake!

I guess my question is: do you eat before and during (with gummy snacks or Clif or whatever). It sounds like you do. I'll have to start experimenting soon with that now that I'm getting closer to a 60 minute run. Maybe I shouldn't let this much time elapse between longer races, eh?;) Or any race really. :rolleyes1 I really feel as clueless as I did 2 years ago. Thanks again for help!

Vicki - I know that Craig has said you can do a half w/o eating during, but much longer than that and it doesn't work. That beign said, I'm an eater. My blood sugar drops and I'm done. (Tears fro not apparent reason before the finish line are bad. ;) ) So, what I do is liekly too much fro you, but here it is. I have a snicker's energy bar and a 20 oz Powerade pre-race. I do water about every 2 miles and gu every 4. Durign teh marthon from you know where this year, I did mostly powerade adn it was every mile, as WDW waters it down (usulaly) and I was afraid of overheating/dehydration.

Is anyone else worried about the water stations for the Minnie being every 1.5 to 2 miles. That seems awfully far when it could be hot. I was hoping to go without the amphipod belt, but I'm a little worried. (I know that surprises all of you who kow ow well I do in heat. ;) )

Wow that seems just a bit far between stops. I have never done a run before but it seems like a far distance.

I hope everyone is safe from all the terrible weather we have all had over the last few days, tornados, snow, freezing rain....uugghhh...

I took a rest day yesterday, I was so stressed when I got home from the horrible weather I just chilled on the couch, watched Survivor, CSI..rerun....uugghhh then couldn't get to sleep cause I lazed around all night.:rotfl:

I will be curling tonight so no TM but will get back to it tommorrow.

We are getting close team!!!!

Kim

Carrie, I wasn't worried until you said something. :scared1: Well, maybe I'm still not worried. After all, I managed that heat thing for the full where they ran out of water and somehow I'm here to tell about it. I just don't know if I'm wanting to bring my Amphipod or not. As The Penguin says though, bring it all and decide the night before...

Yes! We are getting close--65 more days until The Day and less for us arriving before the event!

The water stops sound reasonable as long as the have enough water at each. This is only a 15K and it does start early. If the race was run more in the mid day range it might be a litlle dicey if really hot.

BTW, I always pack a one bottle fanny pack as I like to sip on water evenly and not just at aid stations. I will probably just fill it 3/4 for 15K. For the half start with it full and for marathon refill during the race. Great insurance incase of another 07 marathon fiasco:scared1:

I didn't eat the morning of the minnie last year either...which was a BIG mistake...I brought a high protein slim fast bar with me but every time I tried to take a bite I thought I was going to throw up...so this year I think I am going to try the peanut butter toast...I also carried a big gatorade with me last year and really it was bothersome especially when I was running(I walked most of it) so this year I am going to bring the smaller size gatorade with me.

Suggestions PLEASE!!! Last year I brought my camera in my fanny pack and didn't take a single picture...do you recommend taking it again(cause I really want to get pictures this year as my DD and DN will be with me) or do you think I should just grab a good disposable camera for the marathon??? TIA

Well, my back is still really hurting bad and I went to see a neurosurgeon on Thursday and he want me to get an MRI of my neck now...there are a total of 5 putruding discs in my back and he want to make sure there is no neck injuries as well because of the location. I also have to get a EMG of both arms cause I have been having problems with waking up and both arms being completly numb and some pain in my left arm. Through all this I woke up this morning and it was georgous out so DD, DN, and I took a short walk...I could only get in just under two miles, but I thought at least it was a start!!!

I hope you guys are all doing well in training and I will keep everyone updated with the injury!!

WOOHOO just 65 days!!! I can't wait, and I hope I am able to do it!!!

Take the camera, I always try to travel with mine. Only problem would be if it rains. Then a water camera would be the thing to have.

PD that your back problems aren't too bad. Good luck with all the tests.

8 weeks today I will be on my way......yippppeeeee

How is everyone doing?? This thread seem to have died a bit.

disneyfanz04: How is the back feeling????

Training is going great, really getting into it. I have found my time is better overall when I walk the entire thing then run and walk. As I read someone post why run slow if I can walk fast and that seems to be working for me....yaaaa

Hope everyone is doing great

Kim

Feeling pretty good here-status post marathon! My training says I need 6-8 weeks of recovery before race training again!! Guess it didn't count on me doing the "Minnie" in 8 weeks! But I am taking it really easy this week and probably next--then gonna start crankin' out that mileage! DH is already going strong with his training--he's gonna be smokin'!:cool1:

Oh, I'm not sure if this was mentioned or not before--but the weekend of the Minnie is also Cinco de Mayo, and hte Mexico pavilion is having special food, drinks and other stuff! Count me in for a margarita!!!

Stephanie -- count me in for a huge margarita! Oooops! Just realized I'll only be in the parks during the race. Guess it wouldn't be a good idea to finish the Minnie with a margarita in hand, huh?

I did 30 minutes on the TM last night -- 2.27 miles (IIRC). THat puts me .27 miles ahead of the sweepers at mile 2 of the Minnie

I have to ask...what is IIRC?

I keep forgetting to mention...when we were at WDW in Jan, I got Minnie ears to wear for the race. They're little, fuzzy ears with little red bows, that are attached to barrettes ::MinnieMo

let's see I used to know that one, If I Recall Correctly it has something to do with what I just said ;)

Ahhhh...I never would've come up with that on my own. Thanks!

Yippeee Margarita's...I think that is in one of my favorite food groups.:lmao:
