Minnie Marathon 2007 Info

I'd love to do Minnie weekend again next year. I talked with DH and he was okay with me going again so I'll plan on being there. So, Cam - you up for being a team to make sure we get medals?????

I am hoping the expo will be better this year and that the course support will be increased (a few more characters etc. would be great too!). And an official shirt that actually fits a "real" woman would be most welcome as well :rotfl2:

We'll have to start making plans for that weekend - it is sure to be a fun time and certainly worth an official get-together or two!

YAYYYYY!!!! ! Of course I want to be your teammate, Rhonda! DH was great about me going again when I talked to him right after we got back. So, do we get to come up with a name?

I dashed off an email to WDW Sports to get the scoop on Minnie medals and team formation. Here is their response:

Melissa,

All finishers will be receiving a medal. Whether individual or team.
You can also form any type of two-women teams.

That is good news!!

What would be the advantage of registering as a team? My co-worker and I could register together.....but why is it $10 more than as individuals?????

My guess is that it has to do with the special team awards and commemorative race bibs. There may not be a significant advantage to registering as a team, unless you think you may qualify for an award. I have been sitting on the registration, hoping they'll offer DVC discount like for the other races, but I talked to DVC yesterday and they haven't heard anything yet.

Maybe try sending Disney sports an email with your questions? I have found them to be very responsive. Usually I'll send one in the evening and have a response the next business day. The email address is on their website.

Looks like this will be fun next year, too! I'm glad we'll have so many WISHers coming for Minnie :goodvibes

Sorry I hope this isn't a really stupid question but is it only 2 women teams? Could you do it with your DH or DS??????

Thanks

Kim

There is no dumb question, but my response may seem a bit dumb.

The Minnie weekend, as you probably already know, is advertised as a women's event. The team categories on the Minnie Marathon Web site are specifically listed as Mother/Daughter and Sister/Sister. However, last year, there were a very few men entered (about 75 out of 1500 entrants), because they are not prohibited from racing--but even the announcers at both the 5K and 15K kept saying "it's all about the women this weekend." The goodie bags are tailored towards women, the finisher's shirt is for women, the expo (such as it was) was for women, the awards are restricted to women, and the race field was far-and-away predominately women.

If your husband or son are OK with registering for (what the guys in my running group referred to as) "a chick's race," they probably could. But you'd be registering them as a Mother/Daughter or Sister/Sister team.

Bottom line is I don't think anyone would stop you, but I probably wouldn't feel comfortable doing it personally. If you wanted to, you could ask the Disney folks using the Contact us link on the Web page.

Thanks, does anyone know if there is a pace for the Minnie? Or do you have to just be finished in a certain time?

Thanks
Kim

Yes, it has a 15 min/mile pace requirement. I never saw the sweeper buses, but I know they were out there this year.

I had just started a thread before I saw this one about the Minnie 5K.

I just convinced my best friend to run with me. I just lost 45 pounds and have been inspired to do this. It's something for me to look forward to and celebrate. I plan an losing 40 more pounds by then. Wish me luck!!

Can't wait for that weekend!

I would love to be able to listen to DIS Radio while running anyone know how I can do it??

I'm just back from DL (with a beautiful castle medal) and wanted to share what the CM at the official WDW booth told me about the next Minnie 15K. Individual finishers will definitely receive medals....AND....the medals will be a different design from last years....they will be the traditional three circle shape with a Minnie bow! How cool is that??

So maybe we could form a WISH team??? Would we all have to register together, or when we register can we say we are with team WISH???? I think that would be AWESOME!!!!!

I would love to team up. My DH is coming to Florida with me but we can't be a team so I would love to find some people to run with. I am slowly starting training but I have a cruise in 2 weeks and once that is done I will step it in to high gear. I have lost 30 so far and hope to lose another 30 before the 15K.

Kim

Has anyone found out anything else about the advantages of being a team vs. individuals? TIA!

Hey everyone, I am back from holidays and ready to start losing my weight and training for this.

I don't think DD is going with me so I will be joining solo.

Hope everyone is still out there.

This is awesome!! Thank you!

About five girls in the office want to do this...I need to entice them about being groups now :)

I probably won't be able to pay for the registration until I get back from my cruise...when will this fill up??

I am not sure, but last year I don't think it ever got to capacity...I registered in like Feb.

See you all there!!!!! :wave2:

Good morning everyone.

I have enlisted my entire family to do this. DD 14 and I will join as a team and DH and DS 17 will also run.

Can't wait.

Has anyone registered yet?

Kim

Has anyone else booked for this yet???

I keep putting it off but I think I am going to do it today so I can't back out.
