Minnie Marathon 2007 Info

Awesome! A co-worker and I are planning on attending, she already has asked for the time off from work. She has never been to WDW and is super excited!!

Quick question - looks like there isn't any WDW transporation to the start, what do you do if you don't have a car? Taxi?

This year, they had charter buses that took you from EPCOT to the start at AK. I think there were also buses from EPCOT to AK after the finish so you could pick up your car. DD13 and I are planning to be there again and could easily transport some folks in our Mystery Machine (aka Toyota minivan).

I'd love to see some more info on the team stuff. We might go ahead and register as a mom-daughter team, but it's $10 more than registering separately.

DD and I registered last week as a Mom-Daughter team. She chose our team name.

It makes no sense that they're charging $10 more, but we couldn't resist. DD wants this to become a tradition for us. Who am I to disagree?!

Did you notice that if you register individually it doesn't say that you get a medal??!! If you register as a "team" you get a commorative shirt AND medal. Hhhhmmmm....how would they only give medals to certain people crossing the line--I suppose your bib would identify who was on a team. Guess I need to ask my sis or my mom!! Maybe that is why it costs more?

What?? No bling if you aren't a team?? That makes a difference! I guess my co-worker and I could register as a team.....just so we'd get individual medals, not a single team medal. I can't imagine everyone not getting a medal....anyone know for sure?

When you go to the DL 1/2 they may have info on upcoming Disney runs and you could see the medals offered. I got medal envy when I saw the Minnie medal on display Marathon weekend and knew I would not be making the event this year. Otherwise, they would be sure to have the medals on display at the marathon weekend if ya want to wait that long...
:)

Alright, this is my first post to this board...I am really working on getting back in shape and would love to do the Minnie Marathon next year. What have been your thoughts and experiences in past events? I would love to hear what everyone has to say!

Hi and Welcome!

I would recommend that you pose your question on the weekly walker/runner thread in this forum. There are many participants of the Inauguarl Minnie who may not check this thread. Come on over and join in the fun!

I just registered for the Minnie 15K. :cool1: I'm really curious what the medal looks like....can you elaborate??? Do we only get it if we are on a team?? That was my impression from the registration, so I registered as a team. My sister doesn't know it yet. ;) I wonder what happens if only one member of the team shows up. I don't know if I can convince my sister to give it a try! Also, the race course wouldn't pull up for me online. Anyone else have that problem?

This past May, I entered the Minnie 5K. I had never done anything like this before, and was kind of apprehensive. I am not a runner, nor am I athletic, but my goal was to "finish." I had no idea what to expect, and the excitement at the beginning of the race was something I had never experienced, with Minnie cheering us on! I walked as fast as I could, with my time improving with each mile, for some reason. And... I finished! :woohoo: I received my medal and was very proud of what I had done! :cheer2: I was not fast, but I did it!

And I'm walking the Minnie 5K again next year, hoping to improve my time. :Pinkbounc

darn... if my family trip to disney next may coincided with this i would have done it. unfortunately we have to wait until probably a week later to go while my sisters finish school. and my one is still deciding if she wants to walk at her college graduation or not. i told her it was boring and she wouldn't miss much by not walking. plus she remembers how boring it was sitting there through mine i think :rotfl2:

Tinks- the medal this year was a gold version of the logo. It has 15k & Minnie on it, it also says "Women Run the World" If the logo is on the website that is exactly what the medal looked like.

This was the first year for the Minnie marathon & they did not have team registration. So I dont know if they have changed it up & decided to just give medals to teams. That wouldnt be fair at all.

It was a good event. The expo left something to be desired, but I'm sure it will grow. At the beginning they said it was the largest innaugural event participation in the state of Fl (1700 people) It was alot of fun. The people & environment for the race were great! I would definately do it again.

Hmmm...official WISH team girls weekend at the '07 Minnie? :thumbsup2

I really want to do this again. I have to find Rhonda and make sure we are still on. Rhonda? Yoohooo. . . . . . Rhondaaaaaa :teeth:

I wish there were more information regarding what the advantages are of doing it as a team, and why it would cost $10 more to register that way. Any ideas?

Cam, according the the official website teams get a shirt and finishers medal, but there is no mention of a medal for non-teams, just a shirt. Could be an oversight, but especially in light of the $$$ difference, maybe not. I am hoping to find out for sure at the expo in DL, because I definitely want a medal.

I would love to participate in any WISH activities/meets for the Minnie '07. I missed out on the inaugural Minnie because my son was making his first communion.

It appears from the registration form that you receive a shirt if you register as an individual. If you register as a team, you get a shirt and a medal. I want the medal  so I went ahead and registered as a team. I used my sister as my partner, but I doubt she'll be able to attend. We'll see. Maybe I can convince her. :thumbsup2 I assume the price increase is due to the medal.

Thanks for the medal information!

I'd love to do Minnie weekend again next year. I talked with DH and he was okay with me going again so I'll plan on being there. So, Cam - you up for being a team to make sure we get medals?????

I am hoping the expo will be better this year and that the course support will be increased (a few more characters etc. would be great too!). And an official shirt that actually fits a "real" woman would be most welcome as well :rotfl2:

We'll have to start making plans for that weekend - it is sure to be a fun time and certainly worth an official get-together or two!

Hopefully since they sent out those surveys all those "issues" will be addressed this year. I would hate to be the volunteer that tells people "Sorry, you didnt register as a team & pay $10 extra so you dont get a medal"

I hope I can make it back for the Minnie next year. I know my friends that went with me will not be going back for it. They did not get addicted to this racing thing like the rest of us. But I also want to do the Danskin Tri which it the following weekend & I want to go down for a while at the end of May after the boys get out of school, and I want to go for fall break. Get the picture. If I was only born rich. I blame my mom for me not being born rich & being able to do what I want , when I want.

TiffJ, I can relate. I did the Minnie and the Danskin Tri this year and my DH said I definitely will not be doing that this year. In fact, I did a sort of "Disney race season" -- I did the Goofy races (marathon/half/5K), then Minnie, then the Danskin, and I'm doing the Disneyland Half, and the RFTC and RFTT in October. (By the time I signed up for those last two races, it was like "gee, if I do these I will have collected every Disney medal I can for this year"). Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime thing, though.

There's a reason I've never stayed anywhere but All Star!
