Minky is failing--UPDATE #27 Yeah!

We just found out our one year old Westie is going to have to go through hip surgery. He somehow injured it as a puppy (we don't know how or when) and it has caused some growth issues in his joint. Major worries here right now, so I completely understand.

I am so sorry to hear the bad news about Minky. I feel your pain - tomorrow morning a home visit vet is coming to put our dear 13 yo Lab/Shep Mix Butkus to sleep.

It is amazing to me how deeply our four legged family members dig their way into our hearts and lives. I know Butlkus will be sorely missed just as your Minky.

I would take him home overnight as well. You can watch him as well as anyone else, and he'll be happier and more comfortable at home.

(I'm remembering the last times I had dogs in this state. So hard. )

Well, here we are 24 hours later and things are looking up. DH took Minky irst thing this a.m. They hooked him up to IV fluids, gave him some meds, and got him to eat a little. I picked hiim up at 5:30 and he came out straining on his leash to get to me. And he was SMILING! and wagging his tail! He came home and walked around the yard, checking things out. And he doesn't seem anxious at all. Minky still weak and falling a lot. but I got him to eat some special food and he kept it down. I'm glad I picked him up. I know he'll be happier at home tonight--I sure am. They want to see him back tomorrow a.m. But for now, he seems content to be with his peeps.

Our dog had hip surgery about 5 years ago and she does very well. We did a lot of rehab in our whirlpool bathtub with her and that helped a LOT. She has issues in the winter with the cold (walking in snow) but other than that, she is about 99%.
