OK- I am looking to order my daughter a birthday gift and she wants a laptop. When I look at them I see these things called minis that are only 299.00--- what is the difference between that and a laptop.
She is mainly using it for online playing games on facebook etc...

Get a laptop and not a netbook if she wants to play games.

Apps and games are S-L-O-W on a netbook... I am on one now and I can hardly play my FarmVille on here! ;)

I have several laptops and a mini.

I got the mini only for travel, it is small, light, and has a very small hard drive.

it also has a much slower processor. and is limited in RAM size.

it is great for checking e-mail and limited web surfing. the small screen makes it hard, as most web pages are big, so an external mouse is best.

I also download movies to watch while on a plane.

trying to play a game would probably not be such a great idea. most games need a really good video card, and the minis are not set up for that.

Get her a laptop with at least a 15 inch screen or larger, that way she won't be forced to "lean in" to the screen to see the action!

do you have a lnik to the specs?

MIkeeee

If you can live with the small screen, the internet games don't require much horsepower from the laptop they are more connection speed related. How old is your DD? If she is 16+ then I would go laptop, but 12-14 I would consider the mini very hard
