I saw on another thread that someone mentioned picking up a mini Sunpass at one of the grocery stores. Does anyone know any details about this? Is it worth it?

The problem is that you have to register it to be able to use it. You can call to register it but I think they only activate them at certain points during the day. If you are renting, it may not work for your trip from the airport to the resort. The mini can not be moved from car to car either. If you will be making lots of trips to Orlando then buy the portable (this is what we did).

Also many of the toll roads around Orlando are EPass, not SunPass. While they are interchangable, EPass doesn't provide a discount for using a transponder like SunPass does. So other than for convenience there is really no big savings.

Thanks! Well that sounds not too impressive. I guess that I am not going to worry about it.

Which do they use for on the Florida turnpike from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale? EPass or SunPass? If it's the mini SunPass, can it be bought at a grocery store, if so which one?

Can't answer the first question, but the mini is available at all Publix and CVS locations according to the SunPass website.

Also, to the OP - there is a delay in when the mini goes active. I don't know what delay users actually report, but according to the website, if you register prior to noon, it goes active by 4pm and if you register after noon, it activates by 6am the next day.

We have the SunPass portable transponder and it works like a charm. :thumbsup2

Florida Turpike uses the SunPass and it can provide a significant savings vs. paying cash for the tolls.
