Good Morning! I work in an office where there are several of us that share one printer. When I print something I go to the printer and pick it up. Of course in addition to my printout there are "forgotten" printouts that have been sitting in the printer forever! :headache: Does this bother anyone else?? Really, stuff that's been sitting in there for at least a week! I just had to vent. I'll go on about my day now.

We had the same problem. Eventually a rule was established: pick up your printouts by the end of the day or they get tossed into the recycle bin. Now there is less stuff cluttering up the area around our shared printer.

Why not just hand deliver the copies to the desk of the forgetful person.

We have a plastic bin placed near the printer and the fax machine for that very reason.

There are 9 of us on the printer and we're not all in the same room. Plus, the printouts don't always have who printed them out.

I share your frustration. ;)

I've placed an IN basket at two printer locations. Unclaimed print outs accumulate to about 1/2" per week for 8-10 total users/printer.

I admit to occasionally forgetting to pick up a document, but usually retrieve it within an hour or so. Weren't these documents printed for a reason? Aren't they missed? :confused3

Additional peeve: Scraps left at the paper cutter when the waste basket is 2 feet away. :headache:

Oh man, that paper cutter one gets me! I hate that! (And our waste basket is under the table the cutter is on!) My biggest is (how outdated we are) someone tearing their report out of the middle of the green bar papper and letting the other reports fall over the back of the machine. You have to bend like cirque star to reach it and then fold it all up. Bring the reports to the people, they have initals on top for a reason!

Our office is the complete opposite (and it's equally annoying :headache: :headache: ). If you don't sprint to the printer once you've sent something there, someone else has yanked your printout (and, I'm sure, read it) and put it into our document bin. :badpc: :badpc:

DH found a coworkers resume there recently. He hand delivered it to the guy - but, sheesh! Or maybe he was angling for a raise?

Same here! I often have to print my screen while on the phone, by the time I'm off my phone, I've usually got a co-worker handing me the print-out with a huff and a dirty look on their face! Gee, I'm so sorry that my phone cord doesn't reach that far!

Yep same here. I hit print and then hover over the color printer. :rotfl2:

Same here. If it's there past a day I throw it out.

and they let it run out of paper, so now you have to fill it and wait for their copies to print before yours can print. :headache:

YES! I think that all the time!

Wow, do we work in the same office? :rotfl:

Consider yourself lucky. I worked in an office with a shared printer and a psycho who thought it was funny to take other peoples' things. I thought I was going nuts or the printer was broken, but I was getting a file off her desk one day and there, in a pile, was all of my stuff - almost 2 months' worth. Since then, I would hit print and then dart through the office to the printer to get my stuff.

Luckily I don't have a problem with that, I have a printer in my office. However we do have a copy machine that is networked, anyone here in our building can print to it. There are times when I will go and find the machine jammed and once I clear it I have to wait for it to finish printing something from someone upstairs. And then there are the times I will hit the start button to copy something and it will start copying someone elses stuff before it will do mine.

Now I know no one in my office is on the Dis so how does everyone in this thread know what goes on in my office? I am constantly having to wade through tons of "junk" littering up the printer. And its junk when its emails sent from friends or other "fun" stuff. Or I can print something, but take a call before I head to the printer, only to find my print out MIA. Where is the black hole thats taking my prints???? And dont get me started on the copy machine. The one in my dept is pretty old and is used constantly. So it is down more than its up. Ugh! My workstation is in view of the copy room so if someone is working on it when it jams or goes down, them come and ask me to help. I dont know any more about it than they do. Im just going to follow the directions on the screen that tells me how to un jam it. Dont know why they can't do the same. Im just glad we will be moving to a new location soon and I will have my work station no where near the copy room.

We don't really have a problem with printers, since, we don't really print things. We do have a problem with the fax machines, though. We have lots of things faxed to our office every day, and, don't really have a staff person whose job it is to sort it and put it in the doctors mailboxes. When somebody does do it, apparently, that person either can't read or doesn't recognize the doctor's names. I get faxes for the other doctors all the time, which I put in their mailboxes. But, this creates the anxiety for me of what if they don't put my faxes in my box if misdelivered. So, I don't recommend faxing reports to my office--they are misfiled or misdirected more often than they get to the appropriate person.
