Can anyone help me understand who qualifies for military discount tickets for park admission? My brother-in-law was in active duty decades ago and retired from Army Reserves a few years back. He can go on base and buy groceries, etc. so he has military privileges but I don't know if that is all that you need to qualify for the military discount. Also, do you have to get those at Disney at guest services or can you purchase in advance? And, does his wife qualify, as well?

Thanks for your help. I tried to do the search but got errors.

You buy the military tickets at Shades of Green, in the AAFES shop, so if he can get on a base and buy groceries, he can buy the tickets at AAFES. Not sure about his wife, would think if she has an ID card she can too.

Try doing a Google (or yahoo, or whatever) search on Shades of Green and Stars and Stripes tickets....you can even call SOG and ask them.

Disney itself isn't doing a military ticket promotion at this time (does anyone remember the 2002 deal of free 5 day hoppers for the military member and $99 for up to 5 family member? That was the best deal....we went twice that year....)

Thanks for the quick reply. Is there Disney transportation to Shades of Green? They would be staying with us at the Beach Club and we may not have a car.

I have seen buses from Disney parks going to Shades of Green. They are not ordinary looking Disney buses, but they do have them. I've only noticed them recently, in September for the first time and again 2 weeks ago.

Military retirees qualify for the military discount is they have a current ID card (my dad is retired Navy and qualifies for all the MWR discounts).

Next time your uncle is on base have him stop into his local MWR office, they should not only be able to verify he qualifies for the military discount, but may sell the tickets there. We bought all of our Disney tickets at our local base's MWR...

Hope your trip is a blast!!! :woohoo:

The Stars and Stripes tickets are a great value. As long as your dad has his military id with him, he'll be able to purchase park tickets at SOG. The SOG buses aren't always easy to find at the parks and the stops aren't usually marked. Plus, some only run hourly. The best way to get to SOG is to take the monorail to the Polynesian and walk over to SOG. There are signs along the path at Poly to guide your way. If you can't find the path, ask a CM at Poly for directions. It's a lovely 10 min. walk. The tickets are not sold at the AAFES, but at a ticket counter. When we were there in June, an employee told us they were going to be remodeling and moving to an office. I don't know if this has happened yet, so check at the front desk for the location. You can also purchase discounted tickets for other area attractions like SeaWorld and Kennedy Space Center. Check out the website for attraction ticket info: www.shadesofgreen.org

yeap. as long as either he or his spouse have an ID card, they can get tickets at SoG. I second the recommendation to walk over from Poly. he can also usually purchase tickets from any base ITT office. I know I could get WDW tickets in San Diego as well as DL tickets.

Not meaning to highjack you thread but I have a question on the military discounts at SOG. How many attraction tickets can be purchased by each ID holder? My brother-in-law & sister are going and taking their family & my nephew and his family. He is military & she is his spouse. Can they both get tickets for the rest in their party? They will need to get a total of 9 tickets. Is that allowed? My sister has a military ID card as well as a spouse. If say they are only allowed to get 5 with the discount can they get the rest non-discounted at SOG or would they need to then go to the TTC to get the rest? Thanks for any info. I have not been able to find this info on the SOG site or on here w/the search.

There is a Stars and Stripes ticket available to Military people who stay on site (including SOG) I havent checked the rates against the new rates so I dont know how good of a deal it is...

If you dont stay on site then you probably still want to buy your tickets at the little shopette inside SOG because it, like all other shoppettes are tax free...which can add up pretty quickly if you buy a couple grand worth of tickets. The S&S tickets expire pretty quickly depending on the numbers of days you get.

There is a good military community board here in the DIS right here

and a thread I started on staying off site here

I do not think there there is a limit to how many tickets you can purchase at SoG. Back when WDW was offering free admission and up to 5 tickets disgustingly cheap there was, but since they have discontinued that, I don't think there will be an issue.

Thanks very much for the info. folks! They will be staying at OKW on my DVC and I am just trying to prepare them for what they will need to do and was hoping to avoid any surprises as far as the tickets go.
