Hi,
Does anyone know how Disney does the military discounts if and when they are offered? Is it based on your cabin cat. or is it a cross the board discount for everyone regardless of the cat.? How many cabins are you allowed to get the discount for, and do they have to have the same dining rotation as the military cruiser? Thanks....Vicki

This is the info that I found when I was looking into the military rates. I would call DCL and find out which categories it is available for on the dates you are interested in. I believe it is a limited number of cabins in certain categories. I would think you would all have the same dining rotation if you make the ressies all together:

Active or Retired US Armed Forces personnel that meet the following will now qualify for the Military Offer:

Air Force, Marines, Army (including Army National Guard), Navy, Coast Guard
Reservists (for all branches listed above)
Department of Defense, which includes:
FBI
CIA
National Security Agency
Secret Service
Family of members classified as "active deceased"
NASA Kennedy Space Center
NASA Johnson Space Center
Department of Health and Human Services
100% permanently disabled

This offer is limited to 3 staterooms per qualifying Military Personnel. The qualifying individual must sail in one of the rooms. Military personnel must provide a copy of their military ID prior to sailing

When I checked, the rates were REALLY good! Unfortunately, I could not talk my qualifying family member into cruising with us.

The military rates are usually offered on all the non-suite categories (CAT 4 - 11) depending on stateroom availability. It usually comes out to about a 50% discount off the going rack rate.

FYI: Military rates have been released for most sailings through Dec to include the 7nt Thanksgiving cruise and the 4nt Christmas cruise.

Thanks everyone. My DH definiately qualifies for the military discount. We talked to the castaway club and the rates we were given were nothing near 50% off. The discount applies to both of our cruises, (7n eastern and 7n western), and we are in cat 5 for both, but the total discount for both cruises was less than 50% of 1 cruise. Don't get me wrong...we are VERY HAPPY :cool1::banana::yay::dance3:to be able to get the discount AT ALL, but it was nowhere near the discount I have read from others on these boards. I appreciate everyone's responses. Just letting you lnow FWIW :) Thanks.

I think the amount of the discount probably depends on the category cabin you have, when you booked it (prices go up as the cruise gets closer!) and the season of your cruise. We had already booked our August 2009 cruise and paid it off when the military rates were released. I think our "rebate" was around 45% - we used the extra $$ to upgrade to a veranda room and put the rest on our onboard account - that should cover expenses for our entire 7 day cruise, excursions and all! WOOOHOO. :cool1:
Thanks DCL for the military rates!!!!

Hi DisneyRN1

I checked and the rate on line for Aug 29 Cat 5 is $3065 3 people (No more 4 people avail) and Sept 5 cat 5 3 people $2907/4 people $3476. I think the difference in the great deals that other people have gotten is that the rates with no discounts are so low. You are going during storm season and the kids have gone back to school. Example Thanksgiving week price showing to book now $8158 and your mil discount $4620 (cat 5 4 people). It all depends on the time you sale.

But 2 weeks on the Magic PRICELESS:goodvibes:goodvibes
Have a great time and thanks for your service to this Country

We just received our military discount for our Dec.3 sailing yesterday from DU..for a cat.6 for four people it brought it from just a little over 2000 to 1770so around 300 for a 3 night sailing.

no way is it 50% off. we got $500 credited( we are paid in full already) of our Cat 7 cabin. we had been PIF for several months and our TA automatically got us the discount when it was released. Just waiting now to have it hit our CC account.
we cruise 19 September.

Perhaps the discount varies depending on the category? I know that when I checked the military rates for our Cat. 11 staterooms on our August 16 4-night cruise, the military rates would have saved us close to half. It was a bigger savings than the Fla. resident rate.

The rates and savings depend on the date and category. It is sometimes the same as FL res, sometimes better. It is sometimes announced sooner. Everything depends on how fast the ships are filling.

I'm aware of one site that lists available military rates, but we're not allowed to post it here (sorry). Sites sponsored by TAs are against the rules.

Thanks again,
I appreciate all the responses. I was very surprised about the discount, and thought it would be higher. BUT, again I have to say that Disney has been very kind to the military in general when they really don't have to be. And I am grateful to get any kind of discount at all. :thumbsup2 I am kinda sad though because we just found out about our discount, and then TODAY my DH broke a tooth, and will have to have a cap/crown.:sad1::scared1::mad: Can we say "bye-bye discount" :sad1: At least we can use this money. :thumbsup2
Oh well........:) Thanks again..Vicki
