those traveling were me, nicole, 25 and my boyfriend, chris, 28. this was my 5th trip to WDW and DBF's 2nd, the last time he went, however, was before EPCOT opened. we carried a passporter with us at all times and it was great. that's how i'm able to remember enough to make trip reports even after we've been back for two weeks and survived the holidays. we stayed at the animal kingdom lodge for 6 nights

we arrived in the parking lot of animal kingdom at 9:00. we weren’t too worried about
getting in early b/c we had the whole day to spend here. we used the unofficial guide’s
plan of action and went straight to kilimanjaro safari. we pretty much walked right on.
we saw some good animals but i have seen a few more when I have been in the past.
after the safari we skipped the pangani trail, and headed towards dinosaur, it was a little
cool that morning so we opted to skip the kali river rapids. people were soaked and it
wasn’t the middle of July so their long sleeved shirts and jeans would be wet for a while.
we walked on to dinosaur. I didn’t remember this ride being so dark, but it was fun and I
love the last dino at the end. there was a silly dinosaur character walking around in
dinoland that it looked like the kids were really enjoying. we then made our way to “it’s
tough to be a bug”. we were in the waiting area just long enough for me to take pics of
all those great Broadway posters, “little shop of hoppers” and “a cockroach line” are two
of my favorites. I have not done this 3-D show as many times as the others, so some of
the surprises were indeed surprises and it was a lot of fun.
after the movie it was about 11:20 and DF and I were hungry so we found the flame tree
BBQ and had lunch. we had counter service coupons from connections 123 and used
these. I had a BBQ chicken sandwich that came with cole slaw and corn on the cob, iced
tea, and chocolate cake. DF had a combo plate with cole slaw and corn, a coke and key
lime pie. the coupons covered all of this. we usually would not have gotten dessert but it
is part of the coupon and both treats were quite good! the counter service coupons are
$10.95 a piece and the meal at flame tree would have been $26.23. we loved the coupons
b/c we did not have to mess with cash for meals and they were paid for in advance so it
felt like we were weren’t spending any money to eat. we found a place by the water to
eat, and could hear “tarzan rocks” going on across the water. I liked the eating areas,
there seemed to be plenty of room, it was a great view and they even had condiment
stations down there so you wouldn’t have to walk all the way back up to get a straw.
after lunch we decided to go back and do all the things we skipped before in order to beat
the lines. we decided not to worry about dinoland b/c all we were really interested in
there was dinosaur. we headed into marajah jungle trek, my favorites here are the bats,
they are so neat up close and the tigers in their beautiful habitat. we then went to the
pangani trail were DF loved the gorillas and I always think the naked mole rats are so
funny. I used to have a hedgehog so I like seeing him, too. also in Africa is the train to
rafiki’s watch. we took it and it is a short but fun train ride. you get to see some of the
animal facilities and part of the safari. we only glimpsed around rafiki’s. we were trying
to make the 2:00 “festival of the lion king” show. it seemed interesting, there were
people on computers tracking the animals and I believe there had been viewing of
surgeries earlier that morning. if you’re taking your kids there just for the petting zoo,
keep in mind that it is the same as your local zoo’s!
we made it back to camp Mickey - Minnie at 1;40 and as soon as we got there they started
letting people eon to the show. we sat in the giraffe section. I love this show, it is my
favorite of them all. the performers and the costumes are great!! every time I see it I feel
like I’m seeing a little bit of Broadway magic.
we then went exploring in the discovery island trails and had fun finding the animals
carved in the rails and on the tree of life. we both love the tree of life a lot.
then we looked around the island mercantile and Disney outfitters, then found a spot for
the parade around 3:35. we found a bench across form the mercantile right by the
walkway to the oasis. the parade hit here about 3:10. it was great. it reminded me of a
cross between “tapestry of nations” and “the festival of the lion king” show. after the
parade we made our way through to oasis and out before park close.
DF absolutely loved this park and claimed it his favorite. we did agree that of all the
parks, this one carries it’s theme best throughout and the scenery is gorgeous. one of the
highlights of my day was seeing “devine” she is a character on hand and foot stilts and
covered on vines except for a small part of her shimmering green face. she uses her
appendages gracefully and makes beautiful dance-like shapes. stop and watch her if you
are lucky enough to see her!!

Our family loves to eat at Flame Tree. We usually get it and go down by the water to eat. Somehow I've always missed Devine. Thanks for sharing your day and I"m so glad you enjoyed the AK.

Thanks for posting about your day at AK. The first time my boyfriend and I went to WDW (1999) we didn't even go to AK because we'd heard bad things about it! Boy we were we sorry we missed it when we tried it the next year! We also bought the Connections vouchers and I'm glad to hear they work out so well. :)

of course the first time is usually the best ...the faces of us on the pictures when they jump that dinosaur up is worth it....The bats were also a thrill to see......the attendant had to reassure me of couse that their wing span would make it nearly impossible to get through those little openings......the nearly impossible word .....made me look one more time and moved on.......we just love to look at all the animals there.......thanks for the great report

Those vouchers sound interesting, where did you purchase them?

We were lucky enough to observe Devine on our last visit to AK and she's fascinating to watch.

This is another terrific installment of a great trip report and I had fun reading it. Thanks for taking the time to post :)

we got the vouchers from a web site called connections 123. they have all kinds of dicount tickets and such for various theme parks, restaurants, etc. we got 4 day park hopper passes through them as well as the meal tickets. for disney there are three types of meal tickets, breakfast, good for character/sit down breakfasts at $17, counter service lunches $10.95 and sit down lunches $29.95. it costs $80 to be a member of connections but if you cancell before the year membership is up they send you a portion of your money back. we loved the coupons and would suggest them to anyone. it was nice to have most of the food paid for before we left.
