Microwave install has begun at VGF2

I wonder if they were worried they could have difficulty getting them which is why they never promised them,

They were in way too close to opening for DVD not to have decided prior to that to add them.
If they had originally intended for a microwave to be on that shelf, I think that they would have placed an outlet up there instead of dangling the cord down to the outlet for the countertop.

Maybe, but the decision to add them was made before it opened, because they had to order them and get them there....and within a few days, all rooms had them.

Do you think that they meant to order them in varying finishes? I've seen photos posted of black, white and stainless steel microwaves at VGF2. It just strikes me as a very last-minute decision where they got whatever they could get their hands on in short notice.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad that they decided that the resorts studios should have microwave ovens. I just don't think that it was planned well in advance.

The ones that were in the first few days that were requested seemed that those were black. I haven’t seen any white and the ones that were added when it wasn’t requested have all been stainless in the pictures I have seen

So, I do believe it was decided well in advance of opening

Ok - So interesting thread to me here. First know that whatever DVC resort I stay in, I use the microwave, fridge and half the time the stove in a one bedroom +. When I first looked at videos of these resort rooms, I felt that Disney was going for a feel of upscale and elegant. So to me, it made sense that they wouldn't put a microwave and toaster in the room. Almost as if putting them in would sort of "cheapen" the image they were trying to present. Not that we as members don't want them. And it is just a thought.

But I will say, I do not believe that DVC had these items on order and they were backordered. I believe it was a last minute decision to appease the membership regardless of what we see in print somewhere.

I totally agree (on both points)… and I’m not thrilled with the result.

I’ll be there in a few months- & I’m a major hater of cords, so we’ll see if it bugs me (or better yet- if they’ve hardwired them by then!). 🤪 I also hate the light they put off in a dark room at night (I usually end up draping a washcloth over the clock part), and I’m not a fan of “cooking smells coming through the walls” either! 😂😂 (Boy! I sound persnickety, don’t I ?!! 😆)

All that said, I know a lot of members love them & it makes a big difference for their overall trip enjoyment. Plus, the idea that management is listening to their members is a good thing, IMO… so, I guess I’m glad they’re there… just not how they’re there (it cheapens the aesthetic for sure!)! 🔌

Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. They weren't part of the original design and it was a late decision. So late that the microwaves were not there for opening day. You can't go to Walmart and pick up 200 microwaves; there was SOME lead time.

But it's very unlikely that the decision was made on June 20 when guests began arriving.

Not having the microwave oven was a deal breaker for me, as I have to bring a lot of my own food for religious dietary reasons. For the same reason, not having a sink there, and not having a very cold refrigerator are also very problematic. Bottom line, I will probably never stay in a studio there.

100% agree. This is the roadside motel-ification of what is otherwise a gorgeous room. But us members have proven over and over again that we love roadside motel-ification.

My guess is that within the 1st couple of days GF had so many requests for microwaves for the rooms that GF complained to DVC and required them to put them in the rooms or support services were going to cost more. It wouldn't take too long for the cost of a microwave to be less than paying more for services.

It's possible that they shifted plans based on guest feedback prior to the villas opening, but they had the microwaves on-site on Day 2 of opening week so it's a certainty that they had ordered them before anyone had actually stayed on site.
