We went looking for furniture for the family room today and I kept leaning toward pieces that were microsuede/fiber.

My question is how does it wear? I have a 7 yo and a couch dog. Plus, this would be in the TV room so it would get lots of use.

Your thoughts and experiences please!

We have had a microfiber couch for 18 months now- and we have a couch dog - 50 lb Goldendoodle and the couch has been great. Cleans wonderful with just a damp rag. Plus ours has a ten year warranty against stains, rips, etc.

I actually had one picked out in early December! I ended up with a leather sofa instead because when dd17 sat on the sofa in the store, all her hair stood straight up! Major static electricity! Every time she touched something, she got shocked. We were told that it wouldn't be much different at home (and told that we could possible mess up our laptop by getting shocked when sitting on the sofa).

I have one, but it's only a couple of weeks old, so I can't comment on the wear.

But I will say that I've never had problems with static like LindaR. My kids are VERY messy, so I keep beach towels on the seats, so maybe that has something to do with it.

We looked at microfiber because of the cleanability, but also ended up with leather in our family room. I love it!! It just always looks great. I just wipe it off to clean it. I am so sorry I didn't get leather a long time ago.

That static thing that LindaR mentions would make me crazy, I hate to get static shocks!

I've had a microfiber/durapella couch for 3 years now. I think it depends first on the style of the couch. My couch has two seat pillows and two back pillows. The back pillows are big and poofy but you have to keep poofing of they go flat. It's a very comfy couch but I've noticed on my couch its I don't want to use darker but sort of like behind prints where we sit most on the couch lol. I just sort of run my hand over it trying to smooth it back out. Also I don't like that I can't turn my couch cushions over or around. Overall my couch has been very comfy and super easy to clean and I think we have gotten a great value out of it. Oh and I've never had the static electricity problem and I have really curly hair.

We have a micro fiber "pillow" chair in the living room, it's the one chair we all fight over. We've had it for over 2 years now and it still looks great, never noticed any static from it either.

We have an overstuffed rocker/recliner in the microfiber. It's about 18 months old, and I've got dogs and cats (the Chihuahua likes to run, jump up on the back, and ride it while it rocks :rotfl2: ). It's held up great and cleans well. No complaints here (DH picked it out, and I really didn't like it to start with).

We have a mocha colored microfiber couch and love seat in our living room. We have ordered a tan colored love seat for our kitchen, that I can't wait to get!

We have had great luck with ours. We don't restrict our kids from eating in the living room (unless it is something really messy), and every spec of dirt, stain, cat hair, etc has come off of those couches with a damp microfiber cloth. I can't say enough good things about them.

DD's tend to have a lot of static in their hair, but I attribute that more to the humidity level in the house than to the sofas. In the summer or when we run the humidifiers faithfully, there is no problem.

Now we also have a leather chair and ottoman in our bedroom. It is so beautiful and comfortable, but when the cats walk across it, they leave little pick marks. Any suggestions on how to make them less visible?

We have a microfiber couch and it cleans easily with a damp cloth. With the kids it has been a life-saver! We've never had a static problem.

:)

Love ours too- 3 kids and a lab who thinks the couch is his when we are out of the house. damp cloth and it is good as new.

We have a set that we got this past April and we HATE it. We have 2 couch dogs and the set already looks like its 10 years old. Yes, it's easy to clean but I'm cleaning it every day because it shows everything. We are actually going to move this set to the basement and getting a new one next month.

I think it does depend on the style and colour. I LOVE mine...I have a couch in dark green and 2 chairs/ottomans in golden yellow. They both show different types of dirt....and of ocurse, my ds has gotten chocolate and washable marker on the yellow since we got it just before Christmas....they both came off with a quick wipe of a wet cloth. I don't even have it treated yet!

I, personally, am not a leather furniture type of person(I actually don't like the feel of most leather furniture and the colour selections in what I can afford just isn't very broad). That is why I went for the Mircosuede, I had heard it wears exceptionally well and it cleans easily. If you like leather though, and are worried about cleanability, go with leather over the microsuede.

We live in the desert and have about 10-15% humidity 11 months of the year so maybe that makes the static worse around here! I would have only spent $400 for that sofa, instead of the $1200 for leather but I can just see my dogs never coming into this room again because they got shocked a few times!

I was skeptical about getting microfiber because we have 2 cats that shed like crazy and DH isn't the tidiest of people (to put it gently). I've become a beliver, however! I love our microfiber couch, and I agree that it's a breeze to clean. It's the one piece of furniture in the house that doesn't attract cat hair like a magnet. I've had no static problems, no stain problems, no problems with dirt showing on it at all. I'm sold - next time I replace furniture, I'm going with microfiber again.

Is leather good with animals? Don't the nails cut into it?

When we 1st got ours, the static was terrible. I thought, what in the heck did we buy? That didn't last long though and now we have no static problems whatsoever with it. We have a lab and a long haired cat and ours is in perfect condition. Of course, neither animals gets on it (cat is allowed, she doesn't want on it LOL), but we have no problem with pet hair clinging to it.

I'd recommend it to anyone. It cleans up very nice.

Thanks, all. YOu have talked me into it! Bringing it home tomorrow :goodvibes
