Michelle Duggar pregnant with #19!!!

I'm wondering why this discussion is being allowed on the DIS. They are following their religious beliefs, so isn't belittling their choices in regards to birth control a religious argument?

Only if you make it that way...

What show are you watching???? Those are happy kids that play and run around. Unlike some show (j&k) where the kids have staged play. What family will do think will have the most messed up kids???? Just because they do things different does not mean they are freaks.

When I read a lot of negative posts about the Duggars it almost seems that the underlying issue is fear.. People seem to be threatened by the fact that this family is able to support all of their children without having to rely on a television show; the children have very high moral standards; they are very respectful of one another - as well as their elders; they are heavily involved in missionary work; they function as a family unit at all times; and most importantly, they choose not to partake of the "Give me, give me, give me, world".. How does this make them "freaks"? Simply by virtue of the fact that they are "different" than the people who post here?:confused3

Nobody can argue that having 19 kids isn't abnormal.

Then I assume you feel that Amish people are "abnormal" as well? And that my late DH's mother was abnormal (15 children)? My grandmother on my father's side was abnormal (21 children)? Do we live in a society where people are only allowed to have "x" number of children before they are deemed "abnormal"? :confused3

I wondered that too - and I guess it just surprises me that people are this offended that she is having more children. You don't have to raise them, you don't have to pay for them, you aren't taking care of them - so why do you care?! :confused3 (by you, I don't mean you, disykat, just posters in general).

To me - - if you love your children, you have the financial means to take care of them, and you're not taking assistance from the feds, no one should be giving you grief about the size of your family. There are things that offend me a LOT more than this family having another baby.

Again, I am in total agreement with you.. :goodvibes

I agree. This is how wars start around the world. They are not hurting anybody,on welfare and how many of us can say we have no mortgage payments? Iam so tired of people pasting judgement on others because they are different then us!

They have taken it upon themselves to use the media as a tool to their financial means. As a result, they are open to public scrutiny and many diverse opinions as well.

I was just thinking about the Amish too. Unless your perfect (not you C.ann) then dont judge others.

Wow and people think we have a lot of kids!

Actually in the beginning I thought the Duggars were nuts, but after watching them and John and Kate I'd take the Duggars anytime! At least
they aren't constantly belittling each other. The kids seem happy so who am I to judge?

From the People magazine article:

How about: "Jugottabekiddingme"

:thumbsup2

As long as "I" (and "you") are not paying for them - I just wish them good luck and good health. I have only 2 kids because the complications that can come with pg and L&D scare the crud out of me. I would be a dang wreck if I was going on #19. Statistics are not in her favor.

As far a a name -

"Jusonemore" or "JiminyChristmas!Anotherone?"

Yes, in the year 2009 those things are abnormal, i.e not within the norms of society.
Now when your grandmother, or your dh's mother or my grandmother for example (11 kids ) had all of there kids it wouldn't have been abnormal for that generation. The Duggar's would have fit into society nicely back then, but the truth (whether you like it being pointed out or not) is that in today's world they do not, making their large brood abnormal.

Of course here on the DIS its easy to blindly look past the logic of that and assume all sorts of things about someone who dare describes someone as a freak. Here's a little vocab lesson, maybe some posters should read it before placing their judgement on others opinions :rolleyes1

Freak (noun)
1 a : a sudden and odd or seemingly pointless idea or turn of the mind b : a seemingly capricious action or event
2 archaic : a whimsical quality or disposition
3 : one that is markedly unusual or abnormal: as a : a person or animal having a physical oddity and appearing in a circus sideshow b slang (1) : a sexual deviate (2) : a person who uses an illicit drug c : hippie d : an atypical postage stamp usually caused by a unique defect in paper (as a crease) or a unique event in the manufacturing process (as a speck of dirt on the plate) that does not produce a constant or systematic effect
4 a : an ardent enthusiast <film freaks> b : a person who is obsessed with something <a control freak>

I would say the Duggar's (parents that is) can be described using #1a (odd idea) #2 (which goes right along with the examples of our large families of generations past), #3 (markedly unusual or abnormal), and #4b I've been pregnant 3 times and for anyone to do it 19, especially being told after the 14th that it wasn't a good idea to go through another there must be something driving that, maybe its a calling or maybe its just obsession :confused3

Have to admit i watch this show
mostly because i dont understand them
I'm also fascinated by the FLDS and other cults

still they went on national television that to me says "open for comments"

i wish them well but cant help but notice all those girls go pale when their mother announces yet another baby

As long as I don't have to support them and the kids aren't abused or neglected, I don't care what they do.

However, I don't understand your point that they are raising their kids without any support from a TV show. Don't they have their own show?

Love the Duggars so while I'm a little taken a back by this announcement I'm not that surprised. I wish Michelle a happy, healthy pregnancy with a happy and healthy baby to follow in March 2010.

It surprises me how so many are throwing around rumors or things they think they know about this family when they themselves have neither read their books or watched their show. However, let them get a piece of info from the lady next door who read half an article or saw Jon & Kate + Octomom and they think they've got it all figured out. Folks can be so judgemental and blame their religion when their religion has little or nothing to do with their personal decisions as to how many children they will have.

God Bless you Michelle, God Bless you Anna(DIL who is due 10/18/09) and God Bless the Duggars!

T.

They do have a TV show, however they don't necessarily rely on it to support their family. For example their house was being built before they had a regular TV series whereas if you look at the Gosslins they have their current house bc of the TV show.

I wish them lots of luck, I watch the show here and there and they really do look like a happy and close family.

I'm starting to get the feeling like she really has to be the center of attention? Why not wait until AFTER your son and daughter have their baby next month. Let them celebrate.

Exactly. What a rude, ignorant woman she is!

It is like announcing your engagment at somebody's wedding:rolleyes: "

It's the "NOBODY will get more attention than me" mentality.

My biggest concern is Michelle's health; having this many children takes a toll on the body. But I hope she has a healthy baby and everything turns out fine. It's going to be a little weird for Anna & Josh's daughter to have an aunt or uncle younger than her, though!

If each of her descendants believed in the whole quiver full thing and had 19 children, she would have 130,321 great great grandchildren and nearly 2.5 million great, great, great grandchildren.

Now imagine if everybody utilized the "right" to have as many kids as their uterus can manage, how long would it be before the earth became degraded beyond use? The sad thing is that the Duggars would love for their kids to believe in their screwy religion and have that many babies. It's pathetic.

We may have a legal right, but we do not have a moral or spiritual right. The earth is already stretched more than Duggar's uterus, we don't need people going around having a couple dozen children just because they can. No good comes of it, none at all. The kids have to raise their siblings. It's not a family, it's an institution. What is the point?????
