It makes me sad because I think of the others kids and how little one-on-one time they have had with mom.

And when you watch their show, the kids look so sad, depressed, unkempt, frazzled, etc. NOT!

She is nowhere near the world's record for child bearing. It is amazing that is woman did not die in childbirth considering the times.

I watched the first documentary on the family years ago. This was about child fourteen. I remember the doctor then telling her that another pregnancy was not a good idea.

I really feel sorry for her children, especially the one who is expecting.

They don't. The Duggars have a thing about entrepreneurship; they don't do college. If one of the kids got a scholarship and wanted to go I'm sure that they wouldn't prevent it, but they won't pay for a college education. What they will pay for is seed money for starting a business, such as Josh's used car lot.

The girls are not encouraged at all to go to college...they are to follow in their mother's footsteps, as dictated by their parents and "religion".

To them, higher education is a bad thing, because it could possibly open up their children's minds about the world at large.

I don't watch the show, so I cannot comment on her parenting abilities, but the idea of encouraging your daughters to go to college while your son's can makes me sick.

As for the risks of another pregnancy: That makes me so angry. When I was in highschool, a mother with 7 children died giving birth to her 8th after she was told by her doctor that it was a very bad idea to have any more children. It was absolutely horrible. I worked with her daughter after we were older (they were all homeschooled so I didn't know her in high school) and she felt betrayed by her mother for getting pregnant against the doctor's orders. She was the oldest at the time so got the share of helping her father raise the younger ones, the youngest just two. It was such a tragedy.

Was there any doubt she would not get pregnant again?

I did have doubt - until today's announcement. The reason I had doubt was that Jim Bob allowed Michelle to buy a new crib bedding set when she was expecting their 18th baby. They had been using the same set they got when Josh was born & used crib sets until then and Michelle made the comment that "this may be our last". I truly thought she was done at that point.

I agree with others who have said that Jim Bob is trying to prove his worth as a man by making so many children. I'm also afraid that Michelle is going to have a devistating complication that will end up hurting her or a child. My sister had many pregnancies within 12 years, 3 of which were successful. She wanted to try for another baby and her dr told her that he refused to take her as a patient if she did become pregnant again because her body had been through enough and was not capable of carrying another baby. She was furious! Then our father asked her what good having all those kids was going to be if they didn't have a mother around to raise them. That's exactly what my sister needed to hear and she decided to stop trying for more kids. Sounds like Michelle & Jim Bob could use the same advice.

What show are you watching???? Those are happy kids that play and run around. Unlike some show (j&k) where the kids have staged play. What family will do think will have the most messed up kids???? Just because they do things different does not mean they are freaks. (hope you tell your kids that every body is different ?)

It was me who posted they were freaks, not the pp you quoted. I believe the NOT at the end of her post implies that she does not actually believe what she wrote about them.
Oh and no I don't tell my kids that anyone iwhoi s different, is a freak but if they wanted to know what makes one a freak I would tell them someone who did something that was very abnormal as taken from the definition of freak. Nobody can argue that having 19 kids isn't abnormal.

I think it is sad and pathetic that these 'parents' are robbing their eldest of any sort of freedom, creating more 'buddies' for them to parent. Mrs.Duggar really needs her tubes tied.

I was thinking the same thing. What's the opposite discussion of having 19 kids? Maybe having abortions and we certainly cannot discuss that one.

I wondered that too - and I guess it just surprises me that people are this offended that she is having more children. You don't have to raise them, you don't have to pay for them, you aren't taking care of them - so why do you care?! (by you, I don't mean you, disykat, just posters in general).

Maybe I am sensitive to this because I grew up in what is now considered a large family (6 kids) and I recall people making insensitive comments. To me - - if you love your children, you have the financial means to take care of them, and you're not taking assistance from the feds, no one should be giving you grief about the size of your family. There are things that offend me a LOT more than this family having another baby.
